Towards Green Metaverse Networking Technologies, Advancements and Future Directions
As the Metaverse is iteratively being defined, its potential to unleash the
next wave of digital disruption and create real-life value becomes increasingly
clear. With distinctive features of immersive experience, simultaneous
interactivity, and user agency, the Metaverse has the capability to transform
all walks of life. However, the enabling technologies of the Metaverse, i.e.,
digital twin, artificial intelligence, blockchain, and extended reality, are
known to be energy-hungry, therefore raising concerns about the sustainability
of its large-scale deployment and development. This article proposes Green
Metaverse Networking for the first time to optimize energy efficiencies of all
network components for Metaverse sustainable development. We first analyze
energy consumption, efficiency, and sustainability of energy-intensive
technologies in the Metaverse. Next, focusing on computation and networking, we
present major advancements related to energy efficiency and their integration
into the Metaverse. A case study of energy conservation by incorporating
semantic communication and stochastic resource allocation in the Metaverse is
presented. Finally, we outline the critical challenges of Metaverse sustainable
development, thereby indicating potential directions of future research towards
the green Metaverse
Effect of sintering temperature on the microstructure, electrical and magnetotransport properties of La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 compound
In this work, we report the effect of sintering temperature (900°C, 1000°C, 1100°C and 1200°C) on the electrical and magnetotransport properties of polycrystalline La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 (LSMO). Single phase of LSMO hexagonal structure (R-3c) accompanied with minor phases was successfully synthesized by co-precipitation method. With increasing sintering temperature, grain growth was promoted and grain connectivity was improved. It was found that an enhancement of resistivity on smaller grain size was due to larger grain surface over volume (grain boundaries effect). The shifting of the metal-insulator transition (TMI) to higher temperature was also responsible for observed changes in physical properties. TMI of 900°C, 1000°C and 1100°C were 232 K, 278 K and 298 K respectively however 1200°C was out of measurement range (higher than 300 K). In summary, CP900 with smaller grain size distribution (~200 nm) displayed the highest resistivity and MR% of -19.2% (at 80 K, 10 kG)
LIFE DISRUPTED AND REGENERATED : COPING WITH THE ‘NEW NORMAL’ CREATIVE ARTS IN THE TIME OF CORONAVIRUS
A global pandemic caused by COVID-19 virus since December 2019 has developed into a fearsome situation more than any common global contagion. In combating COVID-19 worldwide, governments instigated a precautionary cordon sanitaire in various degrees. Live music, cinema and film festivals were inevitably cancelled, causing artists to become alienated from their audience. This paper aims to illuminate how
practitioners of the creative industry cope with t
as the means of regenerating ‘life’, which refers to that of a creative artist in a narrower sense, and to that of
the industry in a broader sense. Adopting a combined methodology of autoethnography and virtual ethnography, the authors explore their encounters with the informants and the development of the creative arts scene. The subject of disruption and regeneration in the creative arts industry is approached through feasible methods and tools they could render in this unique lived experience. They hope to construct a view containing some perspectives on the transcendence of creative practitioners from the disruption to the survival of the pandemic’s impact, as well as the regeneration of how creative arts would persevere in the ‘new normal’ of the post-COVID-19 era
Library advisor - an information management system on standard cell library
Integrated Circuit (IC) Design has always been a challenge to designers. There are two approaches that can be used to draft architecture of
an integrated circuit which are the old approach of using Custom and a new one using ASIC.ASIC has been preferred by IC designers as it manipulates liberty files to provide suggestion on the architecture design faster than the Custom approach that relies on tailor-made designs. Tailor-made designs are difficult to draft and not flexible nor scalable. In fact, the time required for an IC to be build based on Custom design is longer than the one using ASIC.Furthermore, ASIC works on a higher-level of the IC Design in
which liberty libraries can be sought to find suitable cells for the IC.However, these liberty libraries are huge that it is quite impossible to browse through manually for intensive comparisons to be made. This has been the obstacle in the ASIC design. Therefore, we proposed a system that stores these liberty libraries as a database and is able to intelligently suggest possible candidate components for IC design sought by the system user. This is a new and novel system that would benefit all designers in the IC design field
Proposing My Reading Experience Questionnaire (MREQ) as an instrument to measure reading motivation and reading comprehension
The reading experience in the Malaysian context is often perceived and understood as being about reading in specific languages. Particularly, research in the field of English as a Second Language is replete with work on reading motivation. However, in this paper, it is argued that reading needs to be seen as going beyond language, setting reading as an experience rather than an ability. This paper therefore sets out to validate the My Reading Experience Questionnaire (MREQ) through a discussion of the questionnaire design as well as the statistical data validation based on the questionnaire items. From there, reading motivation levels of primary school children in Malaysia is analysed. 544 primary school children aged 8 and 11-yearsold completed the MREQ . Findings from the questionnaire
were matched with the Malay language reading comprehension levels of these children. Both the validation and comparisons showed that the MREQ not only gauges reading motivation levels but also reveals the complexities that come with Malaysia’s multilingual literacy context in schools. This paper concludes by proposing for the MREQ to continue to be used especially with how its design is underpinned by sociocultural theories of language and literacy
A bibliometric analysis of the structural equation modeling in mathematics education
Structural equation modeling (SEM) is well-known in statistics due to its flexibility and accessibility. In the Scopus database alone, there were more than 1,500 search results related to SEM in mathematics education. However, there is a lack of scientific reviews of mathematics education that use SEM. The purpose of this study was to investigate research trends related to SEM in mathematics education. The researcher used Biblioshiny and VOS viewer to conduct bibliometric analysis on 1,017 papers that have been published in the Scopus database. The result showed that the number of publications in the research area has continuously grown over the last few decades. The US was the most prolific country in terms of publication and international collaboration. Professor Herbert W. Marsh had the most publications and citations, while the most productive journal was Frontiers in Psychology. The most current keywords include STEM, technology acceptance model, control-value theory, and computational thinking. Hence, these findings may serve as a guide for future researchers to conduct relevant research using SEM
Modification of polyelectrolyte multilayer coatings using nanoparticles to optimize adhesion and proliferation of different cell types
Adapting characteristics of biomaterials specifically for in vitro and in vivo applications is becoming increasingly important in order to control interactions between material and biological systems. These complex interactions are influenced by surface properties like chemical composition, charge, mechanical and topographic attributes. In many cases it is not useful or even not possible to alter the base material but changing surface, to improve biocompatibility or to make surfaces bioactive, may be achieved by thin coatings. An already established method is the coating with polyelectrolyte multilayers (PEM). To adjust adhesion, proliferation and improve vitality of certain cell types, we modified the roughness of PEM coatings. We included different types nanoparticles (NP’s) in different concentrations into PEM coatings for controlling surface roughness. Surface properties were characterized and the reaction of 3 different cell types on these coatings was tested
Godtfredsen syndrome – recurrent clival chondrosarcoma with 6years follow up: a case report and literature review
Background: We report a rare case of Godtfredsen syndrome caused by clival chondrosarcoma and perform a
review of literatures. This article also explains the clinico-anatomical correlation of this rare neurological syndrome.
Case presentation: A 22-year-old gentleman presented with binocular diplopia. Clinical examination revealed an
isolated right abducent nerve and right hypoglossal nerve palsy, with other cranial nerves intact.
Neuroimaging revealed a right clival mass. Supraorbital craniotomy and tumour debulking were done in the same
year. Histopathological examination showed low-grade chondrosarcoma.
After 5-years of default, he came back with the tumour enlarged. He underwent a right orbitozygomatic craniotomy
and tumour excision with 33 cycles of radiotherapy.
Despite two surgeries and radiotherapy, the abducent nerve and hypoglossal nerve did not improve throughout 6 years of follow-up. Cranial nerve VI palsy is not always a false localizing sign, in Godtfredsen syndrome it serves as a localizing sign.
Conclusion: To the best of our knowledge, this is the frst case report of Godtfredsen Syndrome secondary to clival
chondrosarcoma. Cranial nerve VI and XII palsy with no involvement of other cranial nerves, most likely the pathology is located at the clivu
