Encouraging entrepreneurship: a microenterprise development policy agenda
There are a number of opportunities for public policy to help microenterprise programs support emerging entrepreneurs as they contend with the current economic environment.Small business ; Public policy
Fuels and chemicals from biomass using solar thermal energy
The significant nearer term opportunities for the application of solar thermal energy to the manufacture of fuels and chemicals from biomass are summarized, with some comments on resource availability, market potential and economics. Consideration is given to the production of furfural from agricultural residues, and the role of furfural and its derivatives as a replacement for petrochemicals in the plastics industry
The free path in a high velocity random flight process associated to a Lorentz gas in an external field
We investigate the asymptotic behavior of the free path of a variable density
random flight model in an external field as the initial velocity of the
particle goes to infinity. The random flight models we study arise naturally as
the Boltzmann-Grad limit of a random Lorentz gas in the presence of an external
field. By analyzing the time duration of the free path, we obtain exact forms
for the asymptotic mean and variance of the free path in terms of the external
field and the density of scatterers. As a consequence, we obtain a diffusion
approximation for the joint process of the particle observed at reflection
times and the amount of time spent in free flight.Comment: 30 page
Executive wages in America : examining the impact of different factors on wages
The United States has the largest economy in the world. This economy includes financial
markets where all publicly traded companies in the US operate. Within these financial markets,
the country's largest 500 companies exist. Research shows that the average CEO of a Fortune
500 company makes approximately 200 times the pay of an average worker for these companies.
As a young woman in business, and potential future CEO, I plan to examine a few key factors
that I believe impact CEO pay in America. I believe that being female has a negative impact on
wages, and that CEO pay depends heavily on company performance. I will be using data
regarding company performance and demographics of CEOs of some of the United States'
largest companies to perform a regression analysis in order to determine the likelihood that these
factors have an impact on CEO pay.Thesis (B.?)Honors Colleg
Group Versus Individual Therapy in Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment: Finding Interventions that Work
This study explored the effectiveness of individual therapy versus group therapy in the treatment of adolescents in an outpatient substance abuse treatment clinic. Chart review was used to collect information from adolescent male and female clients. Independent samples t-tests, chi-square analyses, and ANOVA tests were used to determine the relationship between interventions and success in treatment. Clients receiving individual therapy only in both The Seven Challenges program and the eclectic counseling category had greater decreases in substance use and had more successful discharges in fewer overall treatment sessions. There is need for further research with a larger sample size to confirm the findings

Could Ernest Boyer’s Foundational Perspective of the Scholarship of Teaching Help Save Faculty Librarians?
This is a recovery project for Ernest Boyer\u27s scholarship of teaching as presented in Scholarship Reconsidered. It addresses a reinterpretation of Boyer’s scholarship of teaching promulgated by his Carnegie successor, Lee Shulman and popularized throughout the Academy. Serendipitously, that reinterpretation gave birth to what is now known as the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), which has undoubtedly benefitted the Academy. While this project focuses on the reinterpretation\u27s ramifications for tenure-track academic library faculty who teach, it also argues that the foundational interpretation of Boyer\u27s model could benefit the Academy at large, and that the two interpretations are not mutually exclusive
