Energy Dependence of Cu L2,3 Satellites using Synchrotron Excited X-ray Emission Spectroscopy

The L2,3 X-ray emission of Cu metal has been measured using monochromatic synchrotron radiation. The self-absorption effect in the spectra is shown to be very small in our experimental geometry. From the quantitative analysis of spectra recorded at different excitation energies, the L3/L2 emission intensity ratio and the partial Auger-width are extracted. High-energy satellite features on the L3 emission line are separated by a subtraction procedure. The satellite intensity is found to be slowly increasing for excitation energies between the L3, L2 and L1 core-level thresholds due to shake-up and shake-off transitions. As the excitation energy passes the L2 threshold, a step of rapidly increasing satellite intensity of the L3 emission is found due to additional Coster-Kronig processes.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, http://link.aps.org/doi/10.1103/PhysRevB.56.1223

X-ray fluorescence spectra of metals excited below threshold

X-ray scattering spectra of Cu and Ni metals have been measured using monochromatic synchrotron radiation tuned from far above to more than 10 eV below threshold. Energy conservation in the scattering process is found to be sufficient to explain the modulation of the spectral shape, neglecting momentum conservation and channel interference. At excitation energies close to and above threshold, the emission spectra map the occupied local partial density of states. For the sub-threshold excitations, the high-energy flank of the inelastic scattering exhibits a Raman-type linear dispersion, and an asymmetric low energy tail develops. Jurister och språkkonsulter i samarbete på Skatteverket

Skatteverket övergår från att ha sin rättsinformation i tryckta handledningar till att publicera den på webben. Samtidigt som all text digitaliseras bearbetar man informationen enligt klarspråksprinciper. Språkkonsulter, sakkunniga skribenter och rättssäkrare har arbetat nära tillsammans med ansvar för språket respektive sakinnehållet. Vi språkkonsulter fick makten att förändra det traditionstyngda juridiska språket. Har vi förvaltat den makten väl? Vi har lärt oss att jurister och språkkonsulter kan ha mycket olika syn på vad som är tydlig text men vi tycker att vi gemensamt åstadkommit klarspråk för mottagaren. Det ser inte längre ut som äldre tiders juridiska språk men inte heller som klarspråk som riktar sig till allmänheten. SummaryThe Swedish Tax Agency is converting approximately 20 printed manuals containing its interpretations of the Swedish tax laws for access from a central web site. During the digitising process the language on every single page has been reviewed and edited into plain language. Plain language consultants and tax law experts have been working closely together, the former taking responsibility for the language and the latter for the complex content. As linguistic experts we have the power to influence the heavy and sometimes stilted language, a language often marked by old legal tradition. Have we used our power well? We have learned that linguists and lawyers can have very different views on what is clear, and on what constitutes plain language. However, we think that, by pooling our resources, we have achieved a good compromise, aimed at a target audience that has a good knowledge of the tax laws, with the purpose of guiding them in their complicated tasks

I filmen Darwins mardröm skildras fiskeindustrin i Victoriasjön och dess kopplingar till illegal vapenhandel. Denna handel påverkas och möjliggörs av ekonomiska och politiska aktörers intressen, vilka har rötter som sträcker sig över staters gränser. Vi har, genom en kvalitativ textanalys, analyserat intervjuer i filmen och funnit att både regeringar, transnationella nätverk och företag gör ekonomiska förtjänster på vapenhandelns fortgående. Tillkortakommanden i de nationella och de internationella lagar och förordningar som reglerar denna handel innefattar korruption och organiserad brottslighet. Enligt Mary Kaldor är termen nya krig användbar för att förklara och förstå de förändringar som på senare tid skett inom krigsföringen, vilka kan härledas till en ökande transnationell sammanbundenhet. Därför har vi använt oss av dessa teorier för att analysera vårt empiriska fall. Parter i de nya krigen är finansiellt beroende av transnationella nätverk och organiserad brottslighet, såsom vapenhandel. Alla inblandade parter måste ta ett större ansvar för att svagare stater inte ska utnyttjas

Resonant Auger spectroscopy at the L2,3 shake-up thresholds as a probe of electron correlation effects in nickel

The excitation energy dependence of the three-hole satellites in the L3-M4,5M4,5 and L2-M4,5M4,5 Auger spectra of nickel metal has been measured using synchrotron radiation. The satellite behavior in the non-radiative emission spectra at the L3 and L2 thresholds is compared and the influence of the Coster-Kronig channel explored. The three-hole satellite intensity at the L3 Auger emission line reveals a peak structure at 5 eV above the L3 threshold attributed to resonant processes at the 2p53d9 shake-up threshold.
