    CONSTITUTIVE MODELLING OF SANDS UNDER MONOTONIC LOADING

    This paper presents the drained and undrained behavior of soils using a modified version of the original cam clay constitutive model. The strain hardening behavior of soils is one of the major challenges in geotechnical engineering. The constitutive equations are numerically integrated over fixed time steps to apply effective stress to the derived elastoplastic soil model. Convergence of solution is controlled by a constitutive relation, namely the associated flow rule. This study provides step by step Python and octave programs to solve for q"-" p by solving the associated non-linear system. The problem is formulated by assuming small strains in the elastic region and large strains in the plastic region. The transition from over-consolidated to normally consolidated states is predicted to be smooth by this elastoplastic model. The model is recognized and solved as a boundary value problem with only two effective stress variables namely q"-" p which is an approximation of three-dimensional invariants

    Highly Efficient Visible Hologram through Dielectric Metasurface

    To achieve applied aspect of metasurfaces in the visible regime, dielectric materials with low absorption are indispensable. This work presents highly efficient generation of hologram via processed amorphous silicon, which exhibits significantly low absorption in the region of interest. The phase and the polarization of transmitted light are tailored by varying the orientation of dielectric nanorods whereas their conversion efficiency is optimized by adjusting their structural parameters. Better image fidelity and higher conversion efficiency (up-to 75%) are achieved as compared to previously reported work. The proposed design methodology paves a way toward on-chip realization of various novel phenomena with substantially enhanced performance.11Yscopu

    Misuse of Antibiotics in Poultry Threatens Pakistan Communitys Health

    A survey was conducted from February 2022 to May 2022 on the usage of antibiotics at a poultry farm in different areas of Multan, Punjab Pakistan. A well-organized questionnaire was used for the collection of data. Sixty poultry farms were surveyed randomly in the Multan district. All of these Farms were using antibiotics. Antibiotics are commonly used for the treatment of diseases. Some are used as preventive medicine and a few are used as growth promotors. neomycin, erythromycin, oxytetracycline, streptomycin, and colistin are the broad-spectrum antibiotics that are being used commercially. Enrofloxacin and Furazolidone are the common antibiotics that are being used in Studies these days. The class of Fluoroquinolones is commonly used in poultry farms. Thirty-three patterns of antibiotic usage were observed at poultry farms. multi-drug practices were also observed on various farms. In this study, 25% of antibiotics are prescribed by the veterans while more than 90 % were acquired from the veterinary store. This study provides information about the antibiotics which are commonly being used in the study location district Multan. It is expected that the finding of this survey will be helpful in the development of new strategies against the misuse of antibiotics on farms

    Downregulation of CYP17A1 by 20-hydroxyecdysone: plasma progesterone and its vasodilatory properties

    Aim: To investigate the effect of 20-hydroxyecdysone on steroidogenic pathway genes and plasma progesterone, and its potential impact on vascular functions. Methods: Chimeric mice with humanized liver were treated with 20-hydroxyecdysone for 3 days, and hepatic steroidogenic pathway genes and plasma progesterone were measured by transcriptomics and GC–MS/MS, respectively. Direct effects on muscle and mesenteric arterioles were assessed by myography. Results: CYP17A1 was downregulated in 20-hydroxyecdysone-treated mice compared with untreated group (p = 0.04), with an insignificant increase in plasma progesterone. Progesterone caused vasorelaxation which was blocked by 60 mM KCl, but unaffected by nitric oxide synthase inhibition. Conclusion: In the short term, 20-hydroxyecdysone mediates CYP17A1 downregulation without a significant increase in plasma progesterone, which has a vasodilatory effect involving inhibition of voltage-dependent calcium channels, and the potential to enhance 20-hydroxyecdysone vasorelaxation

    Burnout among surgeons before and during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic: an international survey

    Background: SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has had many significant impacts within the surgical realm, and surgeons have been obligated to reconsider almost every aspect of daily clinical practice. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study reported in compliance with the CHERRIES guidelines and conducted through an online platform from June 14th to July 15th, 2020. The primary outcome was the burden of burnout during the pandemic indicated by the validated Shirom-Melamed Burnout Measure. Results: Nine hundred fifty-four surgeons completed the survey. The median length of practice was 10 years; 78.2% included were male with a median age of 37 years old, 39.5% were consultants, 68.9% were general surgeons, and 55.7% were affiliated with an academic institution. Overall, there was a significant increase in the mean burnout score during the pandemic; longer years of practice and older age were significantly associated with less burnout. There were significant reductions in the median number of outpatient visits, operated cases, on-call hours, emergency visits, and research work, so, 48.2% of respondents felt that the training resources were insufficient. The majority (81.3%) of respondents reported that their hospitals were included in the management of COVID-19, 66.5% felt their roles had been minimized; 41% were asked to assist in non-surgical medical practices, and 37.6% of respondents were included in COVID-19 management. Conclusions: There was a significant burnout among trainees. Almost all aspects of clinical and research activities were affected with a significant reduction in the volume of research, outpatient clinic visits, surgical procedures, on-call hours, and emergency cases hindering the training.
