Azimuthal asymmetry in transverse energy flow in nuclear collisions at high energies
The azimuthal pattern of transverse energy flow in nuclear collisions at RHIC
and LHC energies is considered. We show that the probability distribution of
the event-by-event azimuthal disbalance in transverse energy flow is
essentially sensitive to the presence of the semihard minijet component.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figure
Developmental waves of mechanosensitivity acquisition in sensory neuron subtypes during embryonic development
Somatic sensation relies on the transduction of physical stimuli into electrical signals by sensory neurons of the dorsal root ganglia. Little is known about how and when during development different types of sensory neurons acquire transduction competence. We directly investigated the emergence of electrical excitability and mechanosensitivity of embryonic and postnatal mouse sensory neurons. We show that sensory neurons acquire mechanotransduction competence coincident with peripheral target innervation. Mechanotransduction competence arises in different sensory lineages in waves, coordinated by distinct developmental mechanisms. Sensory neurons that are mechanoreceptors or proprioceptors acquire mature mechanotransduction indistinguishable from the adult already at E13. This process is independent of neurotrophin-3 and may be driven by a genetic program. In contrast, most nociceptive (pain sensing) sensory neurons acquire mechanosensitive competence as a result of exposure to target-derived nerve growth factor. The highly regulated process of mechanosensory acquisition unveiled here, reveals new strategies to identify molecules required for sensory neuron mechanotransduction
Ophiolites in the Xing’an-Inner Mongolia accretionary belt of the CAOB: Implications for two cycles of seafloor spreading and accretionary orogenic events
The Xing'an-Inner Mongolia accretionary belt in the southeastern segment of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB) was produced by the long-lived subduction and eventual closure of the Paleo-Asian Ocean and by the convergence between the North China Craton and the Mongolian microcontinent. Two ophiolite belts have been recognized: the northern Erenhot-Hegenshan-Xi-Ujimqin ophiolite belt and the southern Solonker-Linxi ophiolite belt. Most basalts in the northern ophiolite belt exhibit characteristics of normal-type to enriched-type mid-ocean ridge basalt affinities with depleted Nd isotopic composition (εNd(t) > +5), comparable to modern Eastern Pacific mid-ocean ridge basalts. Most basaltic rocks in the southern belt show clear geochemical features of suprasubduction zone-type oceanic crust, probably formed in an arc/back-arc environment. The inferred back-arc extension along the Solonker-Linxi belt started at circa 280 Ma. Statistics of all the available age data for the ophiolites indicates two cycles of seafloor spreading/subduction, which gave rise to two main epochs of magmatic activity at 500–410 Ma and 360–220 Ma, respectively, with a gap of ~50 million years (Myr). The spatial and temporal distribution of the ophiolites and concurrent igneous rocks favor bilateral subduction toward the two continental margins in the convergence history, with final collision at ~230–220 Ma. In the whole belt, signals of continental collision and Himalayan-style mountain building are lacking. We thus conclude that the Xing'an-Inner Mongolia segment of the CAOB experienced two cycles of seafloor subduction, back-arc extension, and final “Appalachian-type” soft collision
Topological Charged Black Holes in High Dimensional Spacetimes and Their Formation from Gravitational Collapse of a Type II Fluid
Topological charged black holes coupled with a cosmological constant in
spacetimes are studied, where is an Einstein
space of the form . The global structure for
the four-dimensional spacetimes with is investigated systematically.
The most general solutions that represent a Type fluid in such a high
dimensional spacetime are found, and showed that topological charged black
holes can be formed from the gravitational collapse of such a fluid. When the
spacetime is (asymptotically) self-similar, the collapse always forms black
holes for , in contrast to the case , where it can form

Exploration of Strange Electromagnetics in Carbon Films
Results of magnetic force microscopy (MFM), dc SQUID magnetization, reversed
Josephson effect (RJE), and resistance measurements in thin carbon arc (CA)
films are presented. The observation of a RJE induced voltage as well as its rf
frequency, input amplitude, and temperature dependence reveals the existence of
Josephson Junction arrays. Oscillating behavior of the DC SQUID magnetization
reminiscent of the Fraunhofer-like behavior of superconducting (SC) critical
current in the range of 10000 Oe has been observed. The dc SQUID magnetization
measurement indicates a possible elementary 102 nm SC loop; this is compared to
MFM direct observations of magnetic clusters with a median size of 165 nm. All
these data are consistent with the existence of a high temperature SC-like
phase or fluctuations up to 650 K. It is proposed to expose such CA film to
energetic particle (neutron or ion) bombardment to verify this hypothesis. Such
bombardment would change both the structure of film and consequently the
experimental measurements. In addition such bombardment-induced changes will
provide a basis for particle detectors utilizing the Josephson effect.Comment: 18 pages, 7 figure
New early Eocene tapiromorph perissodactyls from the Ghazij Formation of Pakistan, with implications for mammalian biochronology in Asia
Early Eocene mammals from Indo-Pakistan have only recently come under study. Here we describe the first tapiromorph perissodactyls from the subcontinent. Gandheralophus minor n. gen. and n. sp. and G. robustus n. sp. are two species of Isectolophidae differing in size and in reduction of the anterior dentition. Gandheralophus is probably derived from a primitive isectolophid such as Orientolophus hengdongensis from the earliest Eocene of China, and may be part of a South Asian lineage that also contains Karagalax from the middle Eocene of Pakistan. Two specimens are referred to a new, unnamed species of Lophialetidae. Finally, a highly diagnostic M3 and a molar fragment are described as the new eomoropid chalicothere Litolophus ghazijensis sp. nov. The perissodactyls described here, in contrast to most other mammalian groups published from the early Eocene of Indo-Pakistan, are most closely related to forms known from East and Central Asia. Tapiromorpha are diverse and biochronologically important in the Eocene there and our results allow the first biochronological correlation between early Eocene mammal faunas in Indo-Pakistan and the rest of Asia. We suggest that the upper Ghazij Formation of Pakistan is best correlated with the middle or late part of the Bumbanian Asian Land-Mammal Age, while the Kuldana and Subathu Formations of Pakistan and India are best correlated with the Arshantan Asian Land-Mammal Age
Dynamic analysis of QTLs for green leaf area duration and green leaf number of main stem in wheat
Senescence in a wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) leaf is a programmed degeneration process leading to death. During this process, green leaf area duration (GLAD) and green leaf number of main stem (GLNMS) are gradually reduced. In this study, the two traits of Hanxuan10/Lumai14 DH population at different development stages after anthesis were evaluated under rainfed and irrigated conditions, and QTLs were detected. GLAD and GLNMS of two parents and DH population under rainfed condition were less than those under irrigated condition, and close correlations (P 22-1B-1, QGlad25-1B-1, QGlad28-1B-2 detected under irrigated condition and QGlad25-1B-3, QGlad28-1B-4 mapped under rainfed condition were located at a 20.7 cM marker interval of Xgwm273-EST122 on 1B chromosome. But QTLs for GLNMS were inducibly and specifically expressed at specific developmental stages after anthesis under both water conditions. The findings provide dynamic genetic information related to wheat senescence
Nature of singularity formed by the gravitational collapse in Husain space-time with electromagnetic field and scalar field
In this work, we have investigated the outcome of gravitational collapse in
Husain space-time in the presence of electro-magnetic and a scalar field with
potential. In order to study the nature of the singularity, global behavior of
radial null geodesics have been taken into account. The nature of singularities
formed has been thoroughly studied for all possible variations of the
parameters. These choices of parameters has been presented in tabular form in
various dimensions. It is seen that irrespective of whatever values of the
parameters chosen, the collapse always results in a naked singularity in all
dimensions. There is less possibility of formation of a black hole. Hence this
work is a significant counterexample of the cosmic censorship hypothesis.Comment: 9 pages, 19 figure
Coherence Resonance and Noise-Induced Synchronization in Globally Coupled Hodgkin-Huxley Neurons
The coherence resonance (CR) of globally coupled Hodgkin-Huxley neurons is
studied. When the neurons are set in the subthreshold regime near the firing
threshold, the additive noise induces limit cycles. The coherence of the system
is optimized by the noise. A bell-shaped curve is found for the peak height of
power spectra of the spike train, being significantly different from a
monotonic behavior for the single neuron. The coupling of the network can
enhance CR in two different ways. In particular, when the coupling is strong
enough, the synchronization of the system is induced and optimized by the
noise. This synchronization leads to a high and wide plateau in the local
measure of coherence curve. The local-noise-induced limit cycle can evolve to a
refined spatiotemporal order through the dynamical optimization among the
autonomous oscillation of an individual neuron, the coupling of the network,
