Nanofluids, a mixture of nanoparticles and fluids, have exceptional potential to improve their effective thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity, aluminum and aluminum oxide nanofluids with five different volume fractions of nanoparticle suspensions in different base fluids, i.e., distilled water, ethylene glycol (EG), and ethanol were prepared by mixing nanopowder and base fluids. Sonication with high-powered pulses was used to ensure the dispersion of nanoparticles in good uniformity in the base fluids. The hot wire-laser beam displacement technique was used to measure thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of the prepared nanofluids. The effects of the volume fraction concentration and particle materials on the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of nanofluids were determined. The results showed that the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity increased linearly with increasing volume fraction concentration of nanoparticles in the respective base fluids. In addition, the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity increased faster in the Al2O3 nanofluids than in all the three base fluids

    Get PDF
Deploying IPv6 concomitant with the emerging technologies exposes the enterprise networks to the unforeseen threats as well as the existing threats. In mitigating the threats, calculating the risks value for each of the identified threats is vital. However, the existing equation for risk assessment is inappropriate to be applied in assessing the risks in IPv6 because of their limitation in asset determination. Therefore, this paper highlights the modification made in the existing risk assessment equation. The enhanced risk assessment equation is used to calculate the risk value for IPv6 deployment. The enhanced equation adapts three elements: confidentiality, integrity and availability in achieving security goals. The importance of having the enhanced equation is it enables the network administrator to calculate the potential risks for each of the potential IPv6 attack.Securing the enterprise networks is an iterative process that has no ended points. Hence, it is crucial to modify and adapt a proper equation when performing the risk assessment. In the future, more experiments will be conducted to test for feasibility of the equation

Piston ring assembly for a new natural gas vehicle symmetrical multistage wobble-plate compressor

    Get PDF
Natural gas is an alternative fuel of choice in the market today due to the increase in the price of petroleum, as well as out of environmental concerns. Pressure requirement for a natural gas vehicle (NGV) storage tank is 3000 psig (206 bars). Thus, at NGV refueling facilities, the natural gas need to be stored at a higher pressure in order to refuel the NGV at the pressure required. Compressors are needed in the compression process at the refueling facilities. A new compressor design for natural gas refueling appliance has been developed which is the symmetrical multistage wobble-plate compressor. This compressor design is the newest variation of the axial reciprocating piston compressor. The success of the compressor design in compressing gas depends on the piston ring assembly design. Through this paper, the process of designing the piston ring assembly and considerations taken for this new compressor design were explained. The results presented are those from preliminary tests using air on the working fluid. Real tests on natural gas are to be organised utilising all the experience and lesson learnt from that on air

Introduction: Renal biopsy is an invasive but necessary procedure to determine the exact diagnosis of patients, especially in patients with an unexplained renal impairment. The histopathological examination is vital not only for diagnosis, but also to prognosticate patients’ condition. Objective: This study was aimed at evaluating the results of renal bi- opsy in patients with unexplained rise in serum creatinine, and its association with the patients’ clinical characteristics. Methodology: This was a retrospective study done with data collected from biopsy results in Hospital Tg Ampuan Afzan, Kuantan between 2016 until April 2017. Baseline demographics, risk factors, rate and duration of worsening serum creatinine and the biopsy results were recorded. Results: There were 21 patients in which 14 (66.6%) were males, and 7 (33.3%) of the patients were females. The median age of the patients were 32.0 (IQR 21.0) years. A total of 15 (71.4%) patients have got no other disease comorbidities, and 5 (23.8%) were di- abetics. Three (14.2%) patients have history of taking herbal supplements. The median duration of deranged creatinine was 14.0 (IQR 13.0) days. The median urea on presentation was 10.0 (IQR 11.1) mmol/L, and the median Creatinine was 306.0 ( IQR 324.0) mmol/L. The median rise in creatinine was 137.0 (IQR 182.0) mmol/ L. Biopsy complications which were perinephric collection were noted in two patients (9.5%). The median glomeruli number attained was 20 (IQR 16). Mesangial matrix expansion and hyper- cellularity was noted in 12 (57.0%) patients. Tubular atrophy and interstitial inflammation was present in 17 (80.9%) patients. Out of the 21 biopsies, 13 (61.9%) were diagnosed to have glomerulone- phritis. Within that group, two (9.5%) of the patients were diag- nosed with Crescentic Lupus Nephritis Class IV. Other glomerulonephritis included IgA Nephropathy in 2 patients (9.5%) and Minimal change GN (9.5%). Eight (38.1%) of the results showed hypertensive changes (14.3%), Diabetic changes (4.3%), focal global glomerulosclerosis (4.3%) and Thrombotic micro- angiopathy (4.3%). The creatinine on presentation and also inter- stitial inflammation and tubular atrophy is not significantly correlated with the glomerulosclerosis group. Conclusion: Renal biopsy definitely still plays the most vital and irre- placeable role in the investigation of cases with unexplained renal impairment. Despite a vastly variable biopsy results between patients, renal biopsy has helped in determining the best treatment and prog- nosis for the patients in our study

Using expectation and confirmation theory to determine customer loyalty among postpaid users

    Get PDF
In developing countries, the rate of mobile network subscription is slowing down due to market saturation. Thus, acquiring new customers is a challenge for the service provider. Hence, it is vital to raise customer loyalty in mobile service providers for the purpose of maintaining customers. This paper aims to determine the factors which explain customer loyalty and satisfaction among users of mobile postpaid services. Building from the expectations and confirmation theory using the survey method of positivist research, data was collected from 338 subscribers of Digi, Maxis and Celcom located in Klang Valley, Malaysia. The data was analysed using SEM_PLS Version 3 and the result has generally revealed the significant relationship between all variables. Further analysis revealed that service expectation and performance, for example network quality (i.e. first time dial, no cut on line, etc.) were significant customer expectations when subscribing to a service provider. The finding provides further input and understanding for service providers to offer better services to their subscribers in order to satisfy and retain customers longer

Optimization of praseodymium oxide based catalysts for methanation reaction of simulated natural gas using Box-Behnken design

    Get PDF
Malaysia energy demand on natural gas is increasing, leading to the purification of sour natural gas through the removal of carbon dioxide using catalytic conversion technique. Praseodymium oxide is preferred due to its properties which are suitable in the production of catalysers, polish glass and also as alloying agent. Therefore, a series of praseodymium oxide catalyst was prepared by incipient wetness impregnation method and was calcined at 400oC for 5 hours during screening reaction. The experimental Box-Behnken design was applied for optimizing the parameters in catalytic methanation reaction. The optimum parameters were found to be compatible with the experimental result which showed that Ru/Mn/Pr (5:35:60)/Al2O3 calcined at 800°C with 65% Pr loading and 7 g of catalyst dosage gave 96% of CO2 conversion, determined using FTIR, and yielded about 41% of CH4 at reaction temperature of 400°C. In the stability test, the catalyst’s performance showed an increase and was stable up to 7 hours with 96% of CO2 conversion. X-ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis showed an amorphous structure while Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM) illustrated the presence of small and dispersed particles with undefined shape covering the catalyst surface. EDX analysis revealed that when calcination temperature increased, the mass ratio of Ru increased. Meanwhile Nitrogen Adsorption (NA) analysis revealed that Ru/Mn/Pr (5:35:60)/Al2O3 catalyst attained surface area of 134.39 m2/g

Cornsilk contains various beneficial phytochemical compounds. There are claims that cornsilk exhibits various biological activities in vivo. The aim of the present study was to determine the cornsilk bioactive compounds and the cytotoxicity effect of cornsilk extract on brine shrimp. Cornsilk was extracted using different solvents with single extraction procedures. All phytochemical compounds samples were identified via GC-MS equipment. The brine shrimp toxicity test was observed to obtain LC50 value for both extracts. Eleven compounds were identified in the aqueous extract of cornsilk (AEC) while methanolic extract of cornsilk (MEC) contained 4 compounds. These compounds consist of cyclopentane-ethyl, 2-methylheptane, furfural, furfuryl alcohol, furfuryl-5-methyl, 1-naphtol, lactone-G, cis-2-pentenal, pyranone, hydroxymethyl furfural and palmitic acid. There was only 1 similar compound found in both extracts which was the hydroxymethyl furfural. Cytotoxicity test showed that cornsilk is non toxic. The LC50 values found in AEC and MEC were 3151.34 and 1350.65, respectively. Our result found that cornsilk contained various bioactive compounds which positively supported most of the therapeutic activity claimed. In brief, the cytotoxicity test shows that cornsilk is non toxic for human consumption due to its high LC50 value
