Transformation at Bank of America : an enterprise systems analysis

Thesis (S.M. in Engineering and Management)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Engineering Systems Division, 2011.Cataloged from PDF version of thesis.Includes bibliographical references (p. 92-95).The focus of Bank of America's change management initiatives has shifted away from acquiring and integrating new businesses, a process it calls transition, and towards internal enterprise transformation through a process the Bank calls transformation. One significant change management initiative currently underway is the California Northwest (CANW) transformation. The focus of the CANW initiative is to transfer the Bank's retail banking platform and accounts in California, Idaho, and Washington to the Model banking platform that it maintains across the rest of its enterprise. This thesis, using the California Northwest transformation as a case study, is an enterprise systems evaluation of change management practices at Bank of America. MIT Lean Advancement Initiative (LAI)'s Enterprise Strategic Analysis and Transformation (ESAT) methodology is used as a framework to evaluate the consideration of CANW stakeholders and the alignment of their needs with the CANW goals, processes, metrics, and strategic objectives. INCOSE's framework for writing quality system requirements is further applied to the California Northwest transformation goals. The result of this systems analysis is that while the set of strategic objectives is complete, additional processes, stakeholder values, and metrics need to be identified or developed. Although the set of CANW strategic objectives / goals is complete and all key objectives appear to have been included, the wording of individual goals needs to be clarified and the change management team must review each goal to ensure that it is both necessary and attainable. The second element of the research looks towards change management practices as a whole at Bank of America to identify whether BAC's transformation process is complete and effective. The study reveals that Bank of America should take a stakeholder centric view and consider the needs of all stakeholders to gain "buy-in" from all parties so as to create an "all hands on deck" environment for transformation initiatives. Other recommended actions include announcing change initiatives publically when possible, back-checking of actions by all parties, maintaining a single message, and adopting a standardization vs. transformation mindset.by Daniel Isaac Wallance.S.M.in Engineering and Managemen

PROJETO DE MONITORIA DA DISCIPLINA MECÂNICA DOS SÓLIDOS I DA FACULDADE DE ENGENHARIA DE MATERIAIS.

O curso de Engenharia de Materiais da Unifesspa tem como base a formação generalista do engenheiro, a ênfase nas três grandes áreas: Metais, Cerâmica e Polímeros. Todas estas áreas se apresentam contempladas plenamente no currículo do curso, com atividades didáticas teóricas e práticas, com objetivo de dar ao aluno uma visão bem completa da atividade profissional do Engenheiro de Materiais. O curso de Mecânica dos Sólidos confere ao discente um ambiente propicio ao desenvolvimento de habilidades de solução de problemas, um dos principais objetivos da disciplina Mecânica dos Sólidos é ajudar o discente a desenvolver habilidades de visualização de problemas que permitam a construção de formulações e de modelos matemáticos significativos, que expressem situações realistas. A disciplina de Mecânica dos Sólidos tem-se mantido praticamente inalterada nos últimos anos. Esta estabilidade deve-se ao fato de se tratar de uma matéria do núcleo básico da grande maioria dos cursos de Engenharia. Com o objetivo de facilitar a compreensão desta disciplina, é efetuada uma breve revisão de conteúdos de disciplinas como: cálculo e física, que servem de base para a mesma. Existe uma preocupação, por partes dos docentes do curso, em promover a maior quantidade possível de atividades didáticopedagógicas, que facilitem a compreensão dos discentes com relação aos assuntos e atividades desenvolvidas em sala aula, no sentido de mostrar aos alunos grande parte das atividades que estes deverão exercer após sua formação. Nós últimos anos o que temos observado um grande número de reprovações nesta disciplina o que nos deixa bastante preocupados com a qualidade na formação e as evasões que possam ocorrer a partir deste fato. Assim, o objetivo do presente projeto é solicitar a implementação de bolsa para que o monitor possa auxiliar nas aulas teóricas da disciplina de Mecânica dos Sólidos do Curso de Engenharia de Materiais, visando à melhoria dos indicadores de ensino aprendizagem para esta disciplina

O objetivo do presente estudo é apresentar os benefícios alcançados resultante da monitoria acadêmica empregada por meio da disciplina Mecânica dos Solidos I, ministrada no curso de Engenharia de Mecânica da Universidade Federal do sul e Sudeste do Pará. Os monitores, através de um plano de atividade de atuação, juntamente com o professor intervêm prestando auxílio aos discentes, seja na resolução de exercícios, pesquisa bibliográfica com intuito de enriquecer aquilo que foi visto em sala e ajuda com os projetos da disciplina. A execução do plano de atividade pelos monitores em colaboração com o docente e os discentes apresentou-se bastante satisfatória tendo em vista que houve uma diminuição favorável do índice de reprovação dos alunos na disciplina de mecânica dos sólidos I, em relação as turmas anteriores

Identification of 14-3-3γ as a Mieap-interacting protein and its role in mitochondrial quality control

Mieap, a p53-inducible protein, controls mitochondrial integrity by inducing the accumulation of lysosomal proteins within mitochondria. This phenomenon is designated MALM, for Mieap-induced accumulation of lysosome-like organelles within mitochondria. To identify this novel Mieap-interacting protein(s), we performed a two-dimensional image-converted analysis of liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry (2DICAL) on the proteins immunoprecipitated by an anti-Mieap antibody. We indentified 14-3-3γ as one of the proteins that was included in the Mieap-binding protein complex when MALM was induced. The interaction between Mieap and 14-3-3γ was confirmed on the exogenous and endogenous proteins. Interestingly, 14-3-3γ was localized within mitochondria when MALM occurred. A 14-3-3γ deficiency did not affect the accumulation of Mieap and lysosomal proteins within mitochondria, but dramatically inhibited the elimination of oxidized mitochondrial proteins. These results suggest that 14-3-3γ plays a critical role in eliminating oxidized mitochondrial proteins during the MALM process by interacting with Mieap within mitochondria
