Stock market performance have a significant impact on economic development of a country. Stock markets are supposed to be affected by different financial and macro-economic variables such as gold and oil prices, inflation rate, interest rate, exchange rate and unemployment rate etc. This study is an attempt to find the impact of financial and macro-economic variables on the Karachi Meezan Index 30, the first Islamic Stock index in Pakistan. Monthly data from July 2011 till June 2016 of the variables KMI Index 30, Interest rate, Inflation rate Exchange rate and Gold price is used in this study to find the impact of Interest rate, Inflation rate, Exchange rate and Gold prices on KMI 30 by using Multiple regression model. The empirical result shows that there is a negative relationship of KMI 30 index with interest rate and gold prices whereas a positive relationship exist between exchange rate and KMI 30 Index. Inflation rate did not show a significant relationship with KMI 30 Index in our regression model

Purpose-The purpose of this paper is to answer the question: how the organizational silence is related with organizational commitment and how it affects the employees. The focus is particularly on the higher education institutions in the federal territory. Design/ Methodology/Approach-The scientific data which has been collected from the teachers of higher education in the form of survey questionnaire on which statistical techniques were implied. The sample size was consist of 80 teachers of public educational institutions out of which 55 were received and 44 were stand correct. The approach adopted in this study is exploratory in nature in order to explore relationship between organizational silence and organizational commitment. Findings-In our findings any relationship of the dimensions of organizational silence in context of reasons why employees remain silent is not found with organization commitment. We believe that this must be related to the chosen organization. The correlation is found positive between organization silence and organizational commitment but regression analysis shows in significance of organizational silence with organizational commitment Research limitations/ Implications-The sample used is relatively small due to lack of time and resources. The research is based upon higher education sector only. Practical implications-Managers will find the study useful in evaluating the environment of organization for employees which feel silence behavior, including the level of organizational commitment for the employees. Originality/Value-The study is focused on the different dimensions of organizational silence which include in the scale and correlates to something that is lacking in the literature. The paper will give birth to the debate and discussion of different dimensions of organizational silence in with the relationship of organizational commitment, and   contribute or plugin new experimental fact findings. It also focus on the increasing importance of the organizational silence which is prevailing in the organizations of the current era. Finally this paper tries to explore out the understanding of the Pakistanis towards social media advertisement, what types of communications attract them and their influence on their behaviors. Primary data was collected through adapted research questionnaire. Questionnaires were floated online; Google Docs, emailed and were also filled by person. Analysis has been done using cross tabs and frequency tables. Findings suggest that facebook is the mostly used social network having well communicated and very effective ads. Results show that there is great opportunity to use facebook as a new medium to aware customers about the new products. Findings also suggest that there is an increasing trend of social networks usage in Pakistan. Not only among the age group of 18-25 but also in the adults of 50 and plus. This study can help to understand and design the effective communication strategy to reach the target market in Pakistan, using social media networks. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the moderating role of the learning performance of the student on the relationship of teacher’s competencies and student satisfaction in higher education institutions of Karachi. Methodology: Three different scales namely SETs, Teaching Competence scale, and learning performance scale were used to measure student satisfaction, teaching competencies, and performance learning of students respectively. A survey method was used to collect firsthand data from tier3 universities of Karachi. Findings: The positive impact of teachers’ competencies on student satisfaction has been observed. The result shows that the learning performance of students is partially moderating the relationship. Conclusion: The study concluded that there is a significant positive impact of teacher’s competencies on student satisfaction. The higher teaching competencies lead to greater student satisfaction. Also Learning performance of students from tier3 universities of Karachi has a significant impact on the relationship between student satisfaction and teacher’s competence

Critical Success and Failure Factors of Entrepreneurial Organizations: Study of SMEs in Bahawalpur, Pakistan.

Purpose of this research paper is to highlight critical failure and success factors in Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) of Bahawalpur. In this regard models are developed from studies of Bezing et al and Asian Development Bank (ADB). Finally results are generalized to SMEs of Bahawalpur. Findings suggest that customer service, know-how of the business and the past experience of the manager are the main key factors of success. Whereas different failure factors are explored out in which most crucial ones considered are lack of access to financial capital, inappropriate government structure and poor infrastructure as well as corruption. This paper has the vast implications for the SMEs in Bahawalpur and overall for the SMEs in Pakistan as it gives insight into the reasoning factors of failure and success. Research is limited to small scale due to time constraint and resistive behavior of organizations

Frequency of electrolyte derangement after transurethral resection of prostate: need for postoperative electrolyte monitoring

Abstract Objective. To determine the electrolyte derangement following transurethral resection of prostate (TURP). Methods. All patients undergoing TURP from June 2012 to April 2013 were included. Preoperative electrolytes were performed within a week of procedures. Monopolar TURP using 1.5% glycine was performed. Serum Na(+) and K(+) were assessed within 1 hour postoperatively and subsequently if clinically indicated. Results. The study included 280 patients. Sixty-six patients (23.6%) had electrolyte derangement after TURP. Patients with deranged electrolytes were older (mean age of 73.41 ± 4.08 yrs. versus 68.93 yrs. ± 10.34) and had a longer mean resection time (42.5 ± 20.04 min versus 28.34 ± 14.64 min). Mean weight of tissue resected (41.49 ± 34.46 g versus 15.33 ± 9.74 g) and volume of irrigant used (23.55 ± 15.20 L versus 12.81 ± 7.57 L) were also significantly higher in patients with deranged electrolytes (all p = 0.00). On multivariate logistic regression analysis preoperative sodium level was found to be a significant predictor of postoperative electrolyte derangement (odds ratio 0.267, S.E. = 0.376, and p value = 0.00). Conclusion. Electrolyte derangement occurs in older patients, with larger amount of tissue and longer time of resection and higher volume of irrigant, and in those with lower serum preoperative sodium levels

Development of mathematical model and optimization of GMA welding parameters of IS 2062 grade A steel weldments

    Get PDF
In this experimental works, the effect of GMA welding process parameters, such as arc voltage, wire feed speed, and gas flow rate on the mechanical quality of IS 2062 structural steel of grade A has been studied. Process parameters play an important role in determining the weld quality. In this research work response surface methodology (RSM) technique via design expert (DOE) 12 version software was applied to determining the weld quality and also to develop a mathematical model that can predict the main effect of the above said parameters on weld quality i.e. toughness and hardness. A set of experiments has been conducted to collect the data using a central composite design and ANOVA was used to predict the impact of welding parameters on toughness and hardness and Comparison also made between the actual result and predicted value and from the result that is clear that toughness and hardness of weldment is significantly affected by arc voltage, wire feed speed, and follow by gas flow rate
