Concerns of Ageing and Interest in Assistive Technologies â Convenience Sampling of Attendees at an Aged Care Technology Exhibition in China
Part 7: e-Health, the New Frontier of Service Science InnovationInternational audienceAs in many countries, ageing and aged care in China is an important issue. There is a need for more research on the potential for technology to assist older people and their families, particularly given the disappointing levels of adoption in developed countries. Accordingly this paper aims to gain insight into the perceptions of older people and stakeholders in relation to issues of ageing and their interest in adoption of technology. Using convenience sampling, the authors surveyed 277 participants to understand peoples concerns concerning ageing and use of technologies. Results from this study provide a basis for discussion with stakeholders, particularly concerning ageing in China
GaN and InN nanowires grown by MBE: a comparison
Morphological, optical and transport properties of GaN and InN nanowires
grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) have been studied. The differences
between the two materials in respect to growth parameters and optimization
procedure was stressed. The nanowires crystalline quality has been investigated
by means of their optical properties. A comparison of the transport
characteristics was given. For each material a band schema was shown, which
takes into account transport and optical features and is based on Fermi level

The 2021 German Federal Election on Social Media: Analysing Electoral Risks Created by Twitter and Facebook
Safeguarding democratic elections is hard. Social media plays a vital role in the discourse around elections and during electoral campaigns. The following article provides an analysis of the âsystemic electoral risksâ created by Twitter and Facebook and the mitigation strategies employed by the platforms. It is based on the 2020 proposal by the European Commission for the new Digital Services Act (DSA) in the context of the 2021 German federal elections. This article focuses on Twitter and Facebook and their roles during the German federal elections that took place on 26 September 2021. We analysed three systemic electoral risk categories: 1) the dissemination of illegal content, 2) negative effects on electoral rights, and 3) the influence of disinformation and developed systematic categories for this purpose. In conclusion, we discuss how to respond to these challenges as well as avenues for future research

This study focuses on an inquiry-based teaching experience in mathematics, with 5th grade students in which we have established a strong connection with reality and intensified studentâs ability to communicate, while promoting problem solving and mathematical reasoning. Mathematics lessons are organized into four phases: (i) Launching the task for students; (ii) Development of the task; (iii) Discussion of the task; and (iv) Systematization of mathematical learning. To prepare task discussion, the teacher implements a âgallery of tasksâ through which students have their first contact with their colleagueâs resolutions: they can ask questions and make comments in the presented sheets. This article presents the results of a lesson on percentages, in which students worked on the task entitled âDiscount at Bit- @ - Byteâ. The analysis of this task and the results of similar tasks of reality made throughout the school year shows that the inquiry-based teaching allows improvements in mathematics, namely learning concepts and capabilities such as reasoning, communication and problem solving
Mapping Vesta: First Results from Dawnâs Survey Orbit
The geologic objectives of the Dawn Mission [1] are
to derive Vestaâs shape, map the surface geology,
understand the geological context and contribute to
the determination of the asteroidsâ origin and
evolution.Geomorphology and distribution of surface features
will provide evidence for impact cratering, tectonic activity, volcanism, and regolith processes. Spectral
measurements of the surface will provide evidence of
the compositional characteristics of geological units.
Age information, as derived from crater sizefrequency
distributions, provides the stratigraphic
context for the structural and compositional mapping
results, thus revealing the geologic history of Vesta.
We present here the first results of the Dawn mission
from data collected during the approach to Vesta, and
its first discrete orbit phase â the Survey Orbit, which
lasts 21 days after the spacecraft had established a
circular polar orbit at a radius of ~3000 km with a
beta angle of 10°-15°
The in-plane paraconductivity in La_{2-x}Sr_xCuO_4 thin film superconductors at high reduced-temperatures: Independence of the normal-state pseudogap
The in-plane resistivity has been measured in (LSxCO)
superconducting thin films of underdoped (), optimally-doped
() and overdoped () compositions. These films were grown
on (100)SrTiO substrates, and have about 150 nm thickness. The in-plane
conductivity induced by superconducting fluctuations above the superconducting
transition (the so-called in-plane paraconductivity, ) was
extracted from these data in the reduced-temperature range
10^{-2}\lsim\epsilon\equiv\ln(T/\Tc)\lsim1. Such a
was then analyzed in terms of the
mean-field--like Gaussian-Ginzburg-Landau (GGL) approach extended to the
high- region by means of the introduction of a total-energy cutoff,
which takes into account both the kinetic energy and the quantum localization
energy of each fluctuating mode. Our results strongly suggest that at all
temperatures above Tc, including the high reduced-temperature region, the
doping mainly affects in LSxCO thin films the normal-state properties and that
its influence on the superconducting fluctuations is relatively moderate: Even
in the high- region, the in-plane paraconductivity is found to be
independent of the opening of a pseudogap in the normal state of the underdoped

Binding Energy of Charged Excitons in ZnSe-based Quantum Wells
Excitons and charged excitons (trions) are investigated in ZnSe-based quantum
well structures with (Zn,Be,Mg)Se and (Zn,Mg)(S,Se) barriers by means of
magneto-optical spectroscopy. Binding energies of negatively () and positively
(X+) charged excitons are measured as functions of quantum well width, free
carrier density and in external magnetic fields up to 47 T. The binding energy
of shows a strong increase from 1.4 to 8.9 meV with decreasing quantum well
width from 190 to 29 A. The binding energies of X+ are about 25% smaller than
the binding energy in the same structures. The magnetic field behavior of and
X+ binding energies differ qualitatively. With growing magnetic field strength,
increases its binding energy by 35-150%, while for X+ it decreases by 25%.
Zeeman spin splittings and oscillator strengths of excitons and trions are
measured and discussed
Effective interaction between helical bio-molecules
The effective interaction between two parallel strands of helical
bio-molecules, such as deoxyribose nucleic acids (DNA), is calculated using
computer simulations of the "primitive" model of electrolytes. In particular we
study a simple model for B-DNA incorporating explicitly its charge pattern as a
double-helix structure. The effective force and the effective torque exerted
onto the molecules depend on the central distance and on the relative
orientation. The contributions of nonlinear screening by monovalent counterions
to these forces and torques are analyzed and calculated for different salt
concentrations. As a result, we find that the sign of the force depends
sensitively on the relative orientation. For intermolecular distances smaller
than it can be both attractive and repulsive. Furthermore we report a
nonmonotonic behaviour of the effective force for increasing salt
concentration. Both features cannot be described within linear screening
theories. For large distances, on the other hand, the results agree with linear
screening theories provided the charge of the bio-molecules is suitably
