Managing investment risks of institutional private equity investors: The challenge of illiquidity

Since private equity investments are not publicly traded, a key issue in measuring investment risks of institutional private equity investors arises from a careful measurement of investment returns in the first place. Prices of private equity investments are typically observed at low frequency and are determined by transactions under low liquidity. This contribution highlights useful approaches to the problem of return measurement under conditions of illiquidity. Comfort And Physical Classroom Design: Using Student Voice To Inform School Leadership

This qualitative phenomenological study considered the comfort of students in the secondary physical classroom, seeking ways to meet the needs of 21st Century learners and to provide an equitable environment for all learners. A student survey was conducted on elements of the physical classroom space and interviews were conducted to further delve into student comfort in the classroom. As part of the interviews, students drew an ideal classroom space to further share their thoughts and ideas. Interviewees and respondents articulated the need for individual space in the classroom, for temperature control, and for the reduction of noise to optimize the learning environment. Interviewees sought a visually stimulating environment, and one in which technology was integrated, but not overwhelming. To that end, interviewees suggested that the physical classroom space should be flexible and offer a variety of study environments for students to both focus and relax. Interviewees indicated that this physical classroom environment would better meet their needs to collaborate and communicate with their peers, placing the teacher in an interactive, but supportive role in the classroom. A student comfort taxonomic structure was developed, formed from motivation theory, satisfaction and human comfort theory, and a taxonomic structure of comfort used in nursing. Through the researcher’s reflection and interaction with these data as an educational leader, a series of questions based on a taxonomic structure of student comfort was developed to assess students’ physical comfort, environmental comfort, sociocultural comfort, and psychospiritual comfort across a continuum of relief, ease, and transcendence. This research, and the resulting student comfort taxonomic structure and questions derived from that structure can be used by teachers, school leaders, site managers, architects, and designers to assess student comfort in the physical classroom space

The Vestal\u27s image is one that has captured the imagination of writers, painters, sculptures and scholars for centuries. However this near divine woman is more than what she appears. The Vestal was more than a virgin; she was the daughter, mother and priestess of Rome herself. Behind this glamorous image is a strong, influential, pious and powerful woman who has sacrificed her sexuality and familial ties for not just the service of the Goddess Vesta but also to reap the rewards that such devotion sowed. It is the purpose of this paper to examine the many faces behind the Vestal virgin, and how she achieved not only political power and honor but ritually forged the sacred familial protections on a grand scale -the protection of The Empire at large

Utilization of Rectangular Collimation in Dental and Dental Hygiene Programs

Rectangular collimation has proven to reduce the radiation dose to the patient as well as increase image quality. Studies have been conducted in the past to determine whether utilization of rectangular collimation results in a greater retake rate, however, there is a lack of data regarding the amount of rectangular collimation devices that are currently in use. The purpose of this study was to determine to what extent, if any, rectangular collimators are being utilized in dental and dental hygiene programs. A survey was created and sent via email to the program directors of Accredited dental and dental hygiene programs. A total of 97 programs responded to the survey, however 16 of those surveys were not completed. To be included in the data analysis, question number one (which program do you represent, dental or dental hygiene) must have been answered. Eighty-nine responses qualified, of those, 6 were dental programs and 83 were dental hygiene programs. The results determined that the majority of the programs teach about rectangular collimation in the didactic portion of the radiology course, but do not use a rectangular collimation device during patient care

Occupational Stress and Coping Resources of K-12 Probationary Teachers

The purpose of the study was to measure what factors impact the stress levels of probationary teachers who may or may not be new to the field of education, to determine what demographic characteristics are related to higher levels of stress, to determine what coping resources were successful in reducing stress, and to compare the stress levels and coping resources of probationary teachers to other professionals. The study used the OSI-R to determine the stress levels of k-12 probationary teachers as related to role overload, role insufficiency, role ambiguity, role boundary, responsibility, and physical environment as measured by the Occupational Roles Questionnaire (ORQ) sub scale of the OSI-R. The study determined the coping resources used by these teachers as measured by the Personal Resources Questionnaire (PRQ) of the OSI-R which measures recreation, self-care, social support, and rational/ cognitive coping. Of the 140 people who were sent the survey, 91 responded which was a return rate of 65%. Majority of the respondents were female primarily between the ages of 20 and 49. The average years of experience in education was 7.67 years with most being of the veteran category having been in the field of education more than five years. The results indicated that there was a significant difference between probationary teachers and other professionals for the Role Overload, Role Insufficiency, and Role Ambiguity, Self-Care, and Social Support scales. Beginners, within 0-1 years of educational experience, reported statistically significant scores as compared to their more experience counterparts on the Role Ambiguity scale. Probationary teachers are more stressed than other professionals and feel that their training, education, skills, and experience are either inadequate or inappropriate for the requirements of their jobs. They also reported higher levels of stress in relation to which their priorities, expectations, and evaluation criteria were clear when compared to other professionals. They have a greater ability to coping with stress by completing personal activities to alleviate stress and feel more significantly supported and helped by those around them when compared to other professionals

Going Viral with IL: Integrating Information Literacy into Your Library’s Social Media

Social media outlets dominate the way many library users consume information and communicate with others. In an effort to promote information literacy instruction beyond the classroom and to spread awareness about the library, this session examines the integration of information literacy concepts into an academic library’s social media platforms. Looking to the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for inspiration, the presenters discuss how they developed and implemented a content strategy for the library and government document social media pages which included monthly themes, promotion of services, and more interactive content. The presenters consider what types of content worked well, what did not, and steps for assessing and improving content to reach more users. This presentation aims to inspire new ideas about ways to discuss information literacy and to encourage others to explore what social media platforms would work best for their libraries, design content to engage users, and develop strategies for navigating social media in today’s partisan environment

Measurement of antibacterial properties of foil‑backed electrospun nanofibers

Current methodologies for evaluation of antibacterial properties of traditional textiles are not applicable to foil‑backed, poorly‑absorbent electrospun nanofiber materials, since existing test methods require absorbent fabrics. Since electrospun nanofibers are adhered to the foil backing only by electrostatic interactions, methods used to evaluate antibacterial properties of surfaces cannot be used because these protocols cause the nanofibers to lift from the foil backing. Therefore, a novel method for measurement of the antibacterial properties of electrospun metallic foil‑backed nanofiber materials was developed. This method indicated that acetate‑based nanofibers manufactured to contain 5 to 30 weight percent of cold‑pressed hemp seed oil or full‑spectrum hemp extract inhibited the growth of Staphylococcus aureus in a dose‑dependent manner, from 85.3% (SEM =2.2) inhibition to 99.3% (SEM =0.15) inhibition, respectively. This testing method represents an advanced manufacturing prototype procedure for assessment of antibacterial properties of novel electrospun, metallic foil‑backed nanofiber materials
