Reactions of cyclomanganated complexes with carbon disulfide: routes to η²-aryldithiocarboxylate-Mn(CO)₄ complexes and to the trithiocarbonate complex (μ₃-CS₃)₂Mn₄(CO)₁₆

    Get PDF
Reaction of cyclomanganated aryl ketones with CS₂ proceeds with insertion into the Mn–C bond to give η²-dithiocarboxylato–Mn(CO)₄ compounds. With other cyclomanganated substrates such as that from Ph₃P=S and also with Mn₂(CO)₁₀, CS₂ gives (μ₃-CS₃)₂Mn₄(CO)₁₆ with bridging trithiocarbonate ligands

Estimation of Standardized Effort in the Heterogeneous Gulf of Mexico Shrimp Fleet

    Get PDF
In this paper we estimate nominal and standardized shrimping effort in the Gulf of Mexico for the years 1965 through 1993. We accomplish this by first developing a standardization method (model) and then an expansion method (model). The expansion model estimates nominal days fished for noninterview landings data. The standardization model converts nominal days fished to standard days fished. We then characterize the historical trends of the penaeid shrimp fishery byvessel configuration, relative fishing power, and nominal and standardized effort. Wherever possible, we provide comparison with previous estimates by the National Marine Fisheries Service, NOAA

    Breast Cancer: An Update

    Get PDF
Breast cancer comprises approximately 13.9% of all cases of malignancy in both sexes and 19% in women, in whom it is the commonest form of cancer. The American Cancer Society estimates that 110,000 women developed breast cancer in 1981, and some 37,100 deaths from the disease occurred. The five-year survival rate has been improving over the past 40 years as shown in Table 1, but patients remain in risk of recurrence indefinitely and survival for ten years is generally accepted as the minimal time period necessary to establish the validity of new therapies

Of Banks, Federalism and Clear Statement Rules: Bank of Montreal v. Marcotte

    Get PDF
Federalism-based clear statement rules require governments to use clear statutory language when they pursue initiatives with certain implications for the division of powers. This article makes the case for altering the analytical approach in relation to two of the key federalism doctrines (the doctrine of interjurisdictional immunity and the doctrine of federal paramountcy) by adopting a federalism-based clear statement rule. It makes this case in the context of a discussion of the Supreme Court of Canada’s decision in Bank of Montreal v. Marcotte (2014), an important federalism case that rejected the arguments of several banks invoking both doctrines to avoid the application or operation of a provincial consumer protection law. It argues that the weaknesses evident in the Court’s analysis in the decision could be addressed, or at least mitigated, by a federalism-based clear statement rule

Manganese carbonyl-mediated reactions of azabutadienes with phenylacetylene, methyl acrylate and other unsaturated molecules

Reaction of PhCH₂Mn(CO)₅ with l,4-di-aryl-1-aza-1,3-butadienes gave substituted pyrrolinonyl rings which were η⁴-coordinated to a Mn(CO)₃ group. These are formed by intramolecular CO insertion into a (non-isolated) cyclomanganated intermediate, followed by cyclisation. Other unsaturated reagents (PhC≡CH, CH2=CHCOOMe, PhNCO) gave products arising from insertion of these, including a structurally characterised tri-aryl-η⁵-azacyclohexadienyl-Mn(CO)₃ complex from the reaction with the alkyne. PhCH₂Mn(CO)₅ reacts with l,4-di-aryl-1-aza-1,3-butadienes in the presence of unsaturated substrates to give products based on a cyclomanganated intermediate

Regularity estimates up to the boundary for elliptic systems of difference equations

    Get PDF
Regularity estimates up to the boundary for solutions of elliptic systems of finite difference equations were proved. The regularity estimates, obtained for boundary fitted coordinate systems on domains with smooth boundary, involve discrete Sobolev norms and are proved using pseudo-difference operators to treat systems with variable coefficients. The elliptic systems of difference equations and the boundary conditions which are considered are very general in form. The regularity of a regular elliptic system of difference equations was proved equivalent to the nonexistence of eigensolutions. The regularity estimates obtained are analogous to those in the theory of elliptic systems of partial differential equations, and to the results of Gustafsson, Kreiss, and Sundstrom (1972) and others for hyperbolic difference equations
