Information on the structure of the a1 from tau decay
The decay is analysed using different methods to
account for the resonance structure, which is usually ascribed to the a1. One
scenario is based on the recently developed techniques to generate axial-vector
resonances dynamically, whereas in a second calculation the a1 is introduced as
an explicit resonance. We investigate the influence of different assumptions on
the result. In the molecule scenario the spectral function is described
surprisingly well by adjusting only one free parameter. This result can be
systematically improved by adding higher order corrections to the iterated
Weinberg-Tomozawa interaction. Treating the a1 as an explicit resonance on the
other hand leads to peculiar properties
Relativistically invariant quantum information
We show that quantum information can be encoded into entangled states of
multiple indistinguishable particles in such a way that any inertial observer
can prepare, manipulate, or measure the encoded state independent of their
Lorentz reference frame. Such relativistically invariant quantum information is
free of the difficulties associated with encoding into spin or other degrees of

Positivity of Quasilocal Mass
Motivated by the important work of Brown adn York on quasilocal energy, we
propose definitions of quasilocal energy and momentum surface energy of a
spacelike 2-surface with positive intrinsic curvature in a spacetime. We show
that the quasilocal energy of the boundary of a compact spacelike hypersurface
which satisfies the local energy condition is strictly positive unless the

Relativistically covariant state-dependent cloning of photons
The influence of the relativistic covariance requirement on the optimality of
the symmetric state-dependent 1 -> 2 cloning machine is studied. Namely, given
a photonic qubit whose basis is formed from the momentum-helicity eigenstates,
the change to the optimal cloning fidelity is calculated taking into account
the Lorentz covariance unitarily represented by Wigner's little group. To
pinpoint some of the interesting results, we found states for which the optimal
fidelity of the cloning process drops to 2/3 which corresponds to the fidelity
of the optimal classical cloner. Also, an implication for the security of the

The Economic Impact of Lower Extremity Amputations in Diabetics. a Retrospective Study From a Tertiary Care Hospital of Faisalabad, Pakistan
Background: Among the various complications of diabetes, lower-extremity amputation due to diabetic foot is a common problem. In Pakistan, 6-7% of patients with diabetes suffer from diabetic foot ulceration.
Objectives: Our primary objective was to explore the frequency of diabetic foot amputations, and the secondary objective was to calculate the economic burden of these preventable surgeries on the health budget of the provincial government.
Materials & Methods: It was a retrospective cross-sectional observational study conducted after obtaining approval from the Ethical Review Committee of Allied hospital, Faisalabad Medical University. The data of diabetic foot patients who underwent amputations between July 2017 and December 2017 were retrieved from three Surgical Units (I, II & III), using a purposive sampling technique. All amputations carried out for reasons other than diabetic foot were excluded. The direct medical cost of one diabetic foot amputation was calculated via a local survey of the various private hospitals of Faisalabad. The indirect costs in terms of loss of productivity and disability costs, transport costs, rehabilitation costs were not included in this study. The data were evaluated by using SPSS Version 23.
Results: A total of 85 patients were included in our study. The male to female ratio was 2.7 to 1. The mean direct treatment cost for minor amputation was PKR 46926.00 ± 11730.90 (437.71 ± 101.40). Out of 85 amputations, 63 (74%) were major amputations, and the remaining 22 (26%) were minor amputations. The total cost for 63 major amputations was PKR 3,384,360 (8409.67). The net cost came out to be PKR 4,416,732 ($35978.59) for all the 85 cases being reported in a tertiary care hospital of Faisalabad for six months.
Conclusion: Diabetic foot, a preventable complication of long-term diabetes mellitus, has an economic burden on the hospital budget, which, if adequately addressed via primary prevention programme, can yield not just economical but medical benefits as well
Assessment of soil radon potential in Hong Kong, China, using a 10-point evaluation system
Radon and its progenies have been ranked second of being responsible for lung cancer in humans. Hong Kong has four major groups of uranium-rich plutonic and volcanic rocks and is suffering from radon emanated therefrom. However, there is a lack of radon potential maps in Hong Kong to resolve the spatial distribution of radon-prone areas. A ten-point radon potential system was developed in Germany (2005) to predict radon potential using both the in situ geogenic and geographic parameters under hierarchical ranking. Primarily, the ten-point system requires the desk study of the geological environment of sampling sites, which has an advantage of saving resources and manpower in extensive radon potential mapping over the traditional soil radon concentration sampling method. This paper presents a trial of radon potential mapping in Hong Kong to further verify the system. Despite some slight departures, the system demonstrates an acceptable correlation with soil radon concentrations (R 2 = 0.62-0.66) from 768 samples of mainly intermediate radon potential. Hong Kong has a mean soil radon concentrations of 58.9 kBqm -3, while the radon potential from the ten-point system achieves an average of 4.93 out of 10 over the territory. The vicinity of fault zone showed high soil radon concentrations and potentials, which were conducive to uranium enrichment and rapid soil-gas diffusion near faults. High uranium-238 content in soil was found to cause high soil radon concentration with a large R 2, 0.84. The Jurassic granite and volcanic crystal tuff cover more than 85 % of the whole Hong Kong area, and they show relatively high radon concentrations (Geometric mean 83 and 49 kBqm -3, respectively) which are associated with their high uranium contents (Geometric mean 234 and 197 Bqkg -1, respectively). While indoor radon concentration is an important factor for radon risk assessment, this study has not considered the correlation between indoor radon concentration and radon potential. The reason is that almost all buildings in Hong Kong are high-rise buildings where indoor radon concentrations are governed only by the radium content in the building materials and the ventilation conditions. © 2012 The Author(s).published_or_final_versio
Neutrino Dimuon Production and the Strangeness Asymmetry of the Nucleon
We have performed the first global QCD analysis to include the CCFR and NuTeV
dimuon data, which provide direct constraints on the strange and anti-strange
parton distributions, and . To explore the strangeness
sector, we adopt a general parametrization of the non-perturbative functions satisfying basic QCD requirements. We find that the
strangeness asymmetry, as represented by the momentum integral , is sensitive to the dimuon data provided the
theoretical QCD constraints are enforced. We use the Lagrange Multiplier method
to probe the quality of the global fit as a function of and find
