Series coupled resonant tunneling diode oscillators for terahertz applications

    Get PDF
A series of resonant tunneling diode oscillators with frequencies up to W-band and output power around one milliwatt are presented. To our knowledge, the 75.2 GHz RTD oscillator with -0.2 dBm output power is the highest power reported. The technique demonstrated here shows the great potential to scale up the design to terahertz frequencies. Progress Report to the TNRC for Analysis of the Economics of Atrazine Remediation for Representative Grain Farms in the Aquilla Watershed, Hill County, Texas: Subtasks 4.0-4.4

Four alternative BMPs for atrazine remediation were reported by Harmon and Wang for the study area. The BMPs involved alternative incorporation practices, tillage operations, and sediment ponds. Harmon and Wang reported no statistical difference in corn yields under the alternative BMPs. An economic analysis of four alternative best management practices (BMPs) for atrazine remediation in Hill County, Texas, was performed by the Agricultural and Food Policy Center (AFPC) at Texas A&M University. Using the farm-level economic simulation model FLIPSIM, AFPC scientists analyzed the financial effects of the alternative BMPs on the Texas Blackland Prairie representative farm. This farm consists of 2,000 dryland acres, divided among corn (600 acres), sorghum (750 acres), wheat (250 acres), and native pasture (150 acres). This farm also maintains a small beef cowherd. Regularly updated, the AFPC maintains more than 80 farms across the nation that form the basis for probabilistic-based agricultural policy evaluation.Agricultural and Food Policy, Resource /Energy Economics and Policy,

From demon to deity : Kang Wang in thirteenth-century Jizhou and beyond

    Get PDF
This essay discusses the cult of a deity known as Kang Wang, worshipped throughout Jizhou in thirteenth-century Jiangxi. The identity of this deity remains to some extent mysterious; many different identifying stories for Kang Wang coexist. Underneath these guises, however, his origins as a fearsome and unnamed demon shine through. I argue that the various representations of Kang Wang must be understood as resulting from the very different agendas of the authors who created those identities, but they all share one aim: covering up the demonic roots of the deity. Providing a name and place of origin for the deity should be seen as attempts to exert authority over this demonic force

Cryptanalysis of Yang-Wang-Chang's Password Authentication Scheme with Smart Cards

In 2005, Yang, Wang, and Chang proposed an improved timestamp-based password authentication scheme in an attempt to overcome the flaws of Yang-Shieh_s legendary timestamp-based remote authentication scheme using smart cards. After analyzing the improved scheme proposed by Yang-Wang-Chang, we have found that their scheme is still insecure and vulnerable to four types of forgery attacks. Hence, in this paper, we prove that, their claim that their scheme is intractable is incorrect. Also, we show that even an attack based on Sun et al._s attack could be launched against their scheme which they claimed to resolve with their proposal.Comment: 3 Page

Towards An Integrated Framework for Artificial Intelligence Governance

    Get PDF
Artificial intelligence (AI) is being developed and adopted by many organizations throughout the world. As the potential of AI is being leveraged, many opportunities are being realized and continue to emerge. However, potential issues need to be addressed (Wang and Siau, 2019), such as ethical and legal concerns (Siau and Wang, 2020), making an AI governance framework paramount (Wang and Siau, 2018; Chen et al., 2022). To address this need, we propose an integrated AI governance framework based on an analysis of existing AI frameworks from different regions of the world (i.e., United States, European Commission, Singapore, and Hong Kong). More specifically, we systematically analyzed these frameworks, juxtaposed the frameworks to identify similarities and differences, which allowed us to identify the core components of AI governance, and proposed an integrated framework for AI governance that adheres to the characteristics of analytic theory (Gregor, 2006). The proposed AI governance framework encompasses both Strategic as well as Tactical and Operational components. There is an overarching theme that crosses the Strategic, Tactical, and Operational components that we termed Stakeholder Communication, Interaction, and Engagement. The integrated framework can be utilized by practitioners as guidelines for their AI endeavors and it can also serve as a foundation to guide future AI governance research. Moving forward, we plan to conduct case studies on AI governance frameworks in organizations and study their impacts on AI success. Future research also includes extending our proposed AI governance framework and fine-tuning it to fit unique organizational characteristics or specific sectors of industry. The Quest for Ethical Truth: Wang Yangming on the Unity of Knowing and Acting

    Get PDF
Drawing an analogy between Wang Yangming’s endeavor to know ethical truth and Descartes’ quest for epistemic certainty, this paper proposes a reading of Wang\u27s doctrine of the unity of knowing and acting to the effect that the doctrine does not express an ethical teaching about how the knowledge that is already acquired is to be related to acting, but an epistemological claim as to how we know ethical truths. A detailed analysis of Wang’s relevant texts is offered to support the claim
