Tracking in a space variant active vision system
Without the ability to foveate on and maintain foveation, active vision for applications such as surveillance, object recognition and object tracking are difficult to build. Although foveation in cartesian coordinates is being actively pursued by many, multi-resolution high accuracy foveation in log polar space has not been given much attention. This paper addresses the use of foveation to track a single object as well as multiple objects for a simulated space variant active vision system. Complex logarithmic mapping is chosen firstly because it provides high resolution and wide angle viewing. Secondly, the spatially variant structure of log polar space leads to an object increasing in size as it moves towards the fovea. This is important as we know which object is closer to the fovea at any instant in time.<br /
Design zero-voltage switching DC-DC buck converter
This report proposes an integrated, high switching frequency, zero-voltage-switching
dc-dc buck converter for battery charger application. The design and analysis of dc�dc buck converter with integrated inductor is presented. The converter has been
optimized to convert 12V input voltage to 5V at 1.5A maximum load current at
50MHz switching frequency. The converter has been simulated using an ORCAD
16.5 based simulation tool and result show that the switching losses using zero�voltage-switching technique is less compared to conventional buck converter
Properties of kinematic singularities
The locally rotationally symmetric tilted perfect fluid Bianchi type V
cosmological model provides examples of future geodesically complete spacetimes
that admit a `kinematic singularity' at which the fluid congruence is
inextendible but all frame components of the Weyl and Ricci tensors remain
bounded. We show that for any positive integer n there are examples of Bianchi
type V spacetimes admitting a kinematic singularity such that the covariant
derivatives of the Weyl and Ricci tensors up to the n-th order also stay

Effects of Diversity on Multi-agent Systems: Minority Games
We consider a version of large population games whose agents compete for
resources using strategies with adaptable preferences. The games can be used to
model economic markets, ecosystems or distributed control. Diversity of initial
preferences of strategies is introduced by randomly assigning biases to the
strategies of different agents. We find that diversity among the agents reduces
their maladaptive behavior. We find interesting scaling relations with
diversity for the variance and other parameters such as the convergence time,
the fraction of fickle agents, and the variance of wealth, illustrating their
dynamical origin. When diversity increases, the scaling dynamics is modified by
kinetic sampling and waiting effects. Analyses yield excellent agreement with

Diversity and Adaptation in Large Population Games
We consider a version of large population games whose players compete for
resources using strategies with adaptable preferences. The system efficiency is
measured by the variance of the decisions. In the regime where the system can
be plagued by the maladaptive behavior of the players, we find that diversity
among the players improves the system efficiency, though it slows the
convergence to the steady state. Diversity causes a mild spread of resources at
the transient state, but reduces the uneven distribution of resources in the
