Vortex-antivortex annihilation in mesoscopic superconductors with a central pinning center
In this work we solved the time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau equations, TDGL, to
simulate two superconducting systems with different lateral sizes and with an
antidot inserted in the center. Then, by cycling the external magnetic field,
the creation and annihilation dynamics of a vortex-antivortex pair was studied
as well as the range of temperatures for which such processes could occur. We
verified that in the annihilation process both vortex and antivortex acquire an
elongated format while an accelerated motion takes place.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures, work presented in Vortex VII
A Method to Tackle First Order Differential Equations with Liouvillian Functions in the Solution - II
We present a semi-decision procedure to tackle first order differential
equations, with Liouvillian functions in the solution (LFOODEs). As in the case
of the Prelle-Singer procedure, this method is based on the knowledge of the
integrating factor structure.Comment: 11 pages, late
A unification in the theory of linearization of second order nonlinear ordinary differential equations
In this letter, we introduce a new generalized linearizing transformation
(GLT) for second order nonlinear ordinary differential equations (SNODEs). The
well known invertible point (IPT) and non-point transformations (NPT) can be
derived as sub-cases of the GLT. A wider class of nonlinear ODEs that cannot be
linearized through NPT and IPT can be linearized by this GLT. We also
illustrate how to construct GLTs and to identify the form of the linearizable
equations and propose a procedure to derive the general solution from this GLT
for the SNODEs. We demonstrate the theory with two examples which are of
contemporary interest.Comment: 8 page
R-parity as a residual gauge symmetry : probing a theory of cosmological dark matter
We present a non-supersymmetric scenario in which the R-parity symmetry arises as a result of spontaneous gauge symmetry breaking,
leading to a viable Dirac fermion WIMP dark matter candidate. Direct detection
in nuclear recoil experiments probes dark matter masses around TeV for
TeV consistent with searches at the LHC, while lepton
flavor violation rates and flavor changing neutral currents in neutral meson
systems lie within reach of upcoming experiments.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figure
On low-sampling-rate Kramers-Moyal coefficients
We analyze the impact of the sampling interval on the estimation of
Kramers-Moyal coefficients. We obtain the finite-time expressions of these
coefficients for several standard processes. We also analyze extreme situations
such as the independence and no-fluctuation limits that constitute useful
references. Our results aim at aiding the proper extraction of information in
data-driven analysis.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figure
Genotype imputation accuracy in a F2 pig population using high density and low density SNP panels
Background: F2 resource populations have been used extensively to map QTL segregating between pig breeds. A limitation associated with the use of these resource populations for fine mapping of QTL is the reduced number of founding individuals and recombinations of founding haplotypes occurring in the population. These limitations, however, become advantageous when attempting to impute unobserved genotypes using within family segregation information. A trade-off would be to re-type F2 populations using high density SNP panels for founding individuals and low density panels (tagSNP) in F2 individuals followed by imputation. Subsequently a combined meta-analysis of several populations would provide adequate power and resolution for QTL mapping, and could be achieved at relatively low cost. Such a strategy allows the wealth of phenotypic information that has previously been obtained on experimental resource populations to be further mined for QTL identification. In this study we used experimental and simulated high density genotypes (HD-60K) from an F2 cross to estimate imputation accuracy under several genotyping scenarios. Results: Selection of tagSNP using physical distance or linkage disequilibrium information produced similar imputation accuracies. In particular, tagSNP sets averaging 1 SNP every 2.1 Mb (1,200 SNP genome-wide) yielded imputation accuracies (IA) close to 0.97. If instead of using custom panels, the commercially available 9K chip is used in the F2, IA reaches 0.99. In order to attain such high imputation accuracy the F0 and F1 generations should be genotyped at high density. Alternatively, when only the F0 is genotyped at HD, while F1 and F2 are genotyped with a 9K panel, IA drops to 0.90. Conclusions: Combining 60K and 9K panels with imputation in F2 populations is an appealing strategy to re-genotype existing populations at a fraction of the cost.Fil: Gualdron Duarte, Jose Luis. Oscillatory dynamics of a superconductor vortex lattice in high amplitude ac magnetic fields
In this work we study by ac susceptibility measurements the evolution of the
solid vortex lattice mobility under oscillating forces. Previous work had
already shown that in YBCO single crystals, below the melting transition, a
temporarily symmetric magnetic ac field (e.g. sinusoidal, square, triangular)
can heal the vortex lattice (VL) and increase its mobility, but a temporarily
asymmetric one (e.g. sawtooth) of the same amplitude can tear the lattice into
a more pinned disordered state. In this work we present evidence that the
mobility of the VL is reduced for large vortex displacements, in agreement with
predictions of recent simulations. We show that with large symmetric
oscillating fields both an initially ordered or an initially disordered VL
configuration evolve towards a less mobile lattice, supporting the scenario of
plastic flow.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures. To appear in Phys. Rev.
