    Die vorliegende Arbeit stellt die Powerdopplersonographie an Hand von Vergleichen und Gegenüberstellungen in deskriptiver Weise als nicht invasive Methode vor. Insgesamt wurden bei sechs klinisch-gynäkologisch gesunden Warmblutstuten 16 abgeschlossene, spontane und regelmäßige Zyklen mittels transrektalem Ultraschall aufgezeichnet. Es wurden 10590 dopplersonographische Messdaten ausgewertet, hinzu kamen 9601 powerdopplersonographische Bilddateien, die mittels Pixelanalysesoftware ANALYSIS PRO 1.1 analysiert wurden

    Paraconformal geometry of nnth order ODEs, and exotic holonomy in dimension four

    We characterise nnth order ODEs for which the space of solutions MM is equipped with a particular paraconformal structure in the sense of \cite{BE}, that is a splitting of the tangent bundle as a symmetric tensor product of rank-two vector bundles. This leads to the vanishing of (n2)(n-2) quantities constructed from of the ODE. If n=4n=4 the paraconformal structure is shown to be equivalent to the exotic G3{\cal G}_3 holonomy of Bryant. If n=4n=4, or n6n\geq 6 and MM admits a torsion--free connection compatible with the paraconformal structure then the ODE is trivialisable by point or contact transformations respectively. If n=2n=2 or 3 MM admits an affine paraconformal connection with no torsion. In these cases additional constraints can be imposed on the ODE so that MM admits a projective structure if n=2n=2, or an Einstein--Weyl structure if n=3n=3. The third order ODE can in this case be reconstructed from the Einstein--Weyl data.Comment: Theorem 1.2 strengthened and its proof clarified.     Outbreak of epizootic hemorrhagic disease in captive reindeer (\u3ci\u3eRangifer tarandus\u3c/i\u3e)

    In September 2020, an outbreak of epizootic hemorrhagic disease occurred in captive reindeer (Rangifer tarandus) and was associated with neurological signs and mortality. Four reindeer died or were euthanized after acute illness over a 12-day period. Affected reindeer displayed abnormal behavior, neurologic signs, lethargy, and/or lameness. The most consistent gross finding was dark red streaks throughout the adrenal gland cortices (4/4). One animal had acute hemorrhage involving the subcutis and skeletal muscles over the ventrolateral body wall and back, and abomasal serosa. Histologically, the most common lesions were adrenal gland cortical hemorrhage (4/4) with necrosis (3/4) and lymphoplasmacytic meningoencephalitis with gliosis, glial nodules, satellitosis, and nonsuppurative perivascular cuffing (4/4). The brain lesions were most frequent in the gray matter of the cerebrum, hippocampus, and thalamus but also involved the cerebellum and brainstem. Epizootic hemorrhagic disease virus serotype 6 was detected through PCR and sequencing of the spleen in all cases

    Infrared Photodissociation Spectroscopy of C2n+1N− Anions with n = 1 – 5

    The gas phase vibrational spectroscopy of cryogenically cooled C2n + 1N− anions with n = 1 − 5 is investigated in the spectral range of the C≡C and C≡N stretching modes (1850–2400 cm–1) by way of infrared photodissociation (IRPD) spectroscopy of messenger-tagged C2n+1N–· mD2 complexes. The IRPD spectra are assigned based on a comparison to previously reported anharmonic and harmonic CCSD(T) vibrational frequencies and intensities. Experimentally determined and predicted anharmonic vibrational transition energies lie within ± 21 cm–1. For the harmonic CCSD(T)/vqz+ vibrational frequencies a scaling factor of 0.9808 is determined, resulting in comparable absolute deviations. The influence of the D2-messenger molecules on the structure and the IRPD spectrum is found to be small. Compared to the results of previous IR matrix isolation studies additional, in particular weaker, IR-active transitions are identified

    Emergence of the arterial worm Elaeophora schneideri in moose (Alces alces) and tabanid fly vectors in northeastern Minnesota, USA

    Background Moose (Alces alces) are a culturally and economically valued species in Minnesota. However, the moose population has experienced a sudden, marked decline in their range, including extirpation in the northwest and a 66% decline in the last decade in the northeast portions of the state. Although the exact cause of this decline is unclear, parasitic metastrongylid and filarioid nematode infections are known causes of morbidity and mortality in moose across North America. Methods To determine if these parasitic nematodes could be contributing to the Minnesota moose population decline, we molecularly examined banked tissues obtained from moose that died of known and unknown causes for the presence of nematode DNA. Extracted brain DNA of 34 individual moose was amplified utilizing primers targeting the 18S rRNA gene and internal transcribed spacer regions of nematodes. Results DNA sequencing revealed that PCR products obtained from 15 (44.1%) of the moose were 99% identical to Parelaphostrongylus tenuis, a metastrongylid known to cause neurological disease and death. Additionally, brain tissue from 20 (58.8%) individuals yielded sequences that most closely aligned with Elaeophora schneideri, a parasite associated with neurological impairment but previously unreported in Minnesota. Setaria yehi, a common filarioid parasite of deer, was also detected in the brain tissue of 5 (14.7%) moose. Molecular screening of 618 captured tabanid flies from four trapping sites revealed E. schneideri was present (6%) in the Minnesota environment and transmission could occur locally. Prevalence rates among the flies ranged between 0–100% per trapping site, with Chrysops spp. and Hybomitra spp. implicated as the vectors. Conclusions Ultimately, these data confirm that P. tenuis is widespread in the Minnesota moose population and raises the question of the significance of E. schneideri as a contributing factor to morbidity and mortality in moose

    The similarities of two major peanut allergens, Ara h 2 and Ara h 6, in molecular size, amino acid sequence, and structure have made it difficult to obtain natural Ara h 6 free of Ara h 2. The objectives of this study were to purify natural Ara h 6 that is essentially free of Ara h 2 and to compare its IgE reactivity and potency in histamine release assays to Ara h 2. SDS-PAGE of the highly purified allergen (\u3c0.01% Ara h 2) revealed a single 14.5kD band and the identity of Ara h 6 was confirmed by LC-MS/MS. Ara h 6 showed a higher seroprevalence in chimeric-IgE ELISA (n=54), but a weaker biological activity in basophil histamine release assays than Ara h 2. Purified Ara h 6 will be useful for diagnostic IgE antibody assays, as well as molecular and cellular studies to investigate the immunological mechanisms of peanut allergy

    Post-mortem findings and causes of death of harbour porpoises (Phocoena phocoena) stranded from 1990 to 2000 along the coastlines of Belgium and northern France

    peer reviewedBetween the,ears 1990 and 2000, an attempt was made to determine the causes of death of 55 harbour porpoises stranded along the Belgian and northern French coasts. From 1990 to 1996, only five carcasses were collected as against seven in 1997, eight in 1998, 27 in 1999 and eight in 2000. The sex ratio was normal and most of the animals were juvenile. The most common findings were emaciation, severe parasitosis and pneumonia. A few cases of fishing net entanglement were observed. The main microscopical lesions were acute pneumonia, massive lung oedema, enteritis, hepatitis and gastritis. Encephalitis was observed in six cases. No evidence of morbillivirus infection was detected. Pneumonia was associated with bacteria or parasites, or both. The causes of death and the lesions were similar to those previously reported in other countries bordering the North Sea. The cause of the increased numbers of carcasses in 1999 was unclear but did not include viral epizootics or net entanglement. A temporary increase in the porpoise populatiou in the southern North Sea may have been responsible. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved

    Solitons and admissible families of rational curves in twistor spaces

    It is well known that twistor constructions can be used to analyse and to obtain solutions to a wide class of integrable systems. In this article we express the standard twistor constructions in terms of the concept of an admissible family of rational curves in certain twistor spaces. Examples of of such families can be obtained as subfamilies of a simple family of rational curves using standard operations of algebraic geometry. By examination of several examples, we give evidence that this construction is the basis of the construction of many of the most important solitonic and algebraic solutions to various integrable differential equations of mathematical physics. This is presented as evidence for a principal that, in some sense, all soliton-like solutions should be constructable in this way.Comment: 15 pages, Abstract and introduction rewritten to clarify the objectives of the paper.
