Triple pattern join cardinality estimations over HDT with enhanced metadata

    Get PDF
In this work, we present HDT-stats, an extension to the HDT operations, to compute further metadata when evaluating triple patterns over RDF graphs represented with HDT. Then, we propose a novel model that relies on the HDT-stats metadata, as well as the distinct position of SPARQL variables, to estimate the cardinality of joins between triple patterns. Our preliminary results suggest that our approach produce smore accurate cardinality estimations than existing solutions

Abstract

Introduction

Pneumatosis coli is a rare disease with heterogeneous symptoms which can be detected in the course of various acute and chronic intestinal diseases in children, such as necrotizing enterocolitis, intestinal obstruction and intestinal bacteriological infections.

Case presentation

We report the case of a 12-month-old boy who died of pneumatosis coli caused by an acute intestinal gas gangrene after prolonged artificial alimentation.

Conclusion

While intestinal gas gangrene is a highly uncommon cause of pneumatosis coli, it is important to consider it as a differential diagnosis, especially in patients receiving a prolonged artificial food supply. These patients may develop intestinal gas gangrene due to a dysfunctional intestinal barrier.</p

Combining Realities - Designing with Augmented and Virtual Reality

    No full text
Augmented Reality (AR), the layering of reality and virtuality, can be used as a tool in architecture in model scale as well as in 1:1 scale on site. By combining real architecture models with virtual representations like e.g. wind simulation an intensive understanding for impacts can be observed. Coupling AR with further virtual environments (AR and Virtual Reality) in one scenario makes AR a tangible interface for VR and on the other hand supports the group discussion of distributed teams

Showing the invisible - Seven rules for a new approach of using immersive virtual reality in architecture

    No full text
Virtual reality, especially in a CAVE environment can be used in different ways. In architecture up to now it is mainly used to visualize planned or ancient buildings. Based on the information approach, on the approach that VR can be used not only to show the visual appearance of things but also information, which might be invisible in real world, seven rules are set up. The rules have been applied in university courses as testbed and verified in commercial projects

Interactive Simulation of Architecture in Virtual Environments

    No full text
Architecture always has an environmental impact. By using simulations, planners can minimize the environmental impact. Since simulations normally take a long time and thus only allow a very limited number of iterations, our project describes the setup of a close-to-real-time simulation technique. By dividing the simulation into smaller parts and running the software on clusters or massively parallel computing platforms, first results are available within several seconds, reasonable results below one minute. In order to make this tool easily accessible to specialists and laymen, a tangible user interface provides an intuitive interaction method. The results of the simulation can be visualized and interacted with in different virtual environments. Limitations, mainly automatic grid generation, shape recognition and computation power are discussed

The Integration of Virtual Reality (VR) into the Architectural Workflow - Experiences with an interprofessional project at DaimlerChrysler

DaimlerChrysler as a worldwide operating company is continuously maintaining and developing their brand architecture for the points of sale. It is one of the strategic decisions to have a'Brand Architecture Center'at the company headquarters in Stuttgart to develop the brand architecture and engage local architects to adopt it to the local context. As a major step, a new generation of autohauses is currently developed. Many aspects have to be taken care of in this process, therefore a great number of specialists have to be involved. They are supported by Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). To integrate VR/AR into the architectural process, necessary architectural interactions have been integrated into the softwar
