INCLUSIVE PHYSICAL EDUCATION IN TIMES OF EDUCATIONAL URGENCY: TEACHERS' PERSPECTIVE IN THE VENETO REGION

    Get PDF
Physical Education (PE) represents an important global-growth opportunity for pupils enhancing their physical, cognitive, emotional, and relational well-being. At the same time, the heterogeneity of the classrooms implies that the promotion of inclusive PE is a complex task, and students with special educational needs (SEN) are, more than others, at risk of marginalization. This aspect is particularly relevant in this period of restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic in which PE teachers must redesign their activities and the alliance with other educational figures has become an educational urgency. The aim of this study was twofold: on the one hand, to understand if and to what extent students with SEN participate in PE and how PE teachers collaborate with colleagues, other professionals and families to develop personalized and flexible teaching; on the other hand, to investigate any differences in the use of teaching styles in PE before and during the period of restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In conclusion, the perspective of a voluntary sample of 32 PE teachers from the Veneto Region collected through a self-reported questionnaire is presented

This paper assumes the ICF system as theoretical framework and It focuses on facilitators and barriers on sport for persons with physical disabilities. The scientific literature has shown a lack of this type of works in national contest and the presence of international survey based on heterogeneous theoretical frameworks. After a short introduction about well-being construct, the work presents part of scientific literature that describes sport as personal well-being factor. Subsequently, the empirical phase: the outcomes highlight that the motivational aspects (firstly, desire of fun) are preponderant in determining thestart and the continuation of agonistic practice. Instead, the environmental factors play a barriers role (firstly, the poor usability of existing sport facilities). Sport supports the growth of personal autonomy and It helps the development of a rewarding life design. At level of care network, It is necessary to improve the usability of sport facilities, the efficacy of economic incentives and the educational and cultural sensitivity toward the Paralympic sport. Therefore we have to expand the survey and to socialize the outcomes with different stakeholders, in order to re-project the sport opportunities for people with physical disabilities.Facilitatori e barriere nella pratica sportiva di atleti con disabilità fisiche:uno studio esplorativ

Social Cooperatives and services for people with disabilities: building participation and generating connections for more inclusive communities

The article explores and problematises the issue of participatory processes within socio-educational-health services for people with disabilities, managed by social cooperatives (CS). The introductory analysis on the world of social cooperation highlights the current weakening of some distinctive elements that have characterized its growth and development, such as territorial roots and proximity to the needs of the population, greater autonomy in entrepreneurial strategies, the ability to attract new resources to the territory and generate social capital. This is accompanied by reflection on the inclusive challenge that characterizes services for people with disabilities, urged to enter into osmosis with the surrounding community. Subsequently, a qualitative research is illustrated which involved the coordination figures of a network of social cooperatives in the province of Padua, the outcomes of which have highlighted contexts with a good capacity to generate participation. Overall, it emerges that CS are called upon to take on the civil representation function with greater force, a place that co-produces innovative services by identifying, among the priorities, that of strengthening their role as connectors, aggregating individual needs and expectations through shared projects among the different stakeholders, including people with disabilities and their families.L’articolo approfondisce e problematizza il tema dei processi partecipativi all’interno dei servizi socio-educativo-sanitari per le persone con disabilità, gestiti da cooperative sociali (CS).

Young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), after school, enjoy few opportunities to live new inclusive experiences. Specifically, the paper documents, through a single case study, the educational itinerary at the university of a young man with autism spectrum syndrome who came out of secondary school only with the certificate of attendance. The results highlighted the crucial synergy between all the actors involved, to better guide the student, coherently connecting his interests and aspirations with the educational offer.I ragazzi con disabilità intellettiva e dello sviluppo (IDD), al termine della scuola, godono di scarse opportunità di vivere nuove esperienze inclusive.

Physical activity (PA) is essential for promoting well-being, health, and positive social relations. Nevertheless, in industrialized countries, high levels of physical inactivity are reported, with higherlevels in people with disabilities. People with intellectual disability (ID) are characterized by particularly high inactivity rates and have various barriers to regularly participating in PA. The aim ofthe present research was to explore the barriers to PA of young adults with ID perceived by their parents and sports coaches. The cross-sectional study involved 52 parents and 9 coaches, who provided information on 55 young adults with mild or moderate ID, filling two separate questionnaire packages, one for parents and the other for coaches. The main reported barriers were the low number of available PA programs, the prejudice toward the disability, the level of expertise of the sports coaches, and the lack of motivation to PA practice of people with ID.The intervention trajectories are therefore multiple including actions on policies at a general and a local level (PA programs availability and accessibility seem intervention targets), educational actions to promote inclusion and reduce stigma, and programs to support parents and to improve the relational and teaching abilities of coaches

This paper discusses a training proposal made in community with parents of children with Fragile X Syndrome, teachers and educators (for a total of 15 participants) who experience daily difficulties of listening and meeting between the different contexts in which children and young people are to live. The starting point is the awareness of the risks of a closer everyday activities and responsibilities of educational care: what is important for the student well-being? What factors facilitate my educational act? Who can help me to identify the barriers in learning, teaching, and participation that make it much exhausting my job? The proposal was realized through the creation of local inclusive networks that mediate the fragility and support forces to enhance the talent of each and promote truly flourishing life design.

Grazing affects metabolic pattern of individual cow milk

Effective traceability tools able to characterize milk from pasture are important to safeguard low-input farming systems, niche dairy products, and local traditions. The aims of the present study were to investigate the ability of proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy to discriminate between milk produced from cows before and after the beginning of the grazing season, and to assess the effects of grazing on milk metabolites. The research trial involved a single alpine holding with 72 lactating cows. Individual milks were repeatedly sampled from the same animals before (i.e., d −3 and −1) and after (i.e., d 2, 3, 7, 10, and 14) the onset of the grazing period. One-dimensional 1H NMR spectra of milk extracts were collected through a Bruker spectrometer. Random forest discriminant analysis was applied to 1H NMR spectra to predict the period of collection for each sample. Data concerning the relative abundance of milk metabolites were analyzed through a linear mixed model, which included the fixed effects of period of sampling, cow breed, stage of lactation, and parity, and the random effect of cow nested within breed. The random forest model exhibited great accuracy (93.1%) in discriminating between samples collected on d −3, −1, 2, and 3 and those collected on d 7, 10, and 14. Univariate analysis performed on the 40 detected metabolites highlighted that milk samples from pasture had lower levels of 14 compounds (with fumarate being the most depressed metabolite) and greater levels of 15 compounds (with methanol and hippurate being the most elevated metabolites). Results indicate that milk 1H NMR spectra are promising to identify milk produced in different conditions. Also, our study highlights that grazing is associated with significant changes of milk metabolic profile, suggesting the potential use of several metabolites as indicators of farm management

A mixed-autonomous robotic platform for intra-row and inter-row weed removal for precision agriculture

    Get PDF
The presence of weeds poses a common and persistent problem in crop cultivation, affecting both yield and overall agricultural productivity. Common solutions to the problem typically include chemical pesticides, mulching, or mechanical weeding performed by agricultural implements or humans. Even if effective, those techniques have several drawbacks, including soil and water pollution, high cost-effectiveness ratio or stress for operators. In recent years, novel robotic solutions have been proposed to overcome current limitations and to move towards more sustainable approaches to weeding. This work presents a mixed-autonomous, robotic, weeding system based on a fully integrated three-axis platform and a vision system mounted on a mobile rover. The rover’s motion is remotely controlled by a human operator, while weeds identification and removal is performed autonomously by the robotic system. Once in position, an RGB-D camera captures the portion of field to be treated. The acquired spatial, color and depth information is used to classify soil, the main crop, and the weeds to be removed using a pre-trained Deep Neural Network. Each target is then analyzed by a second RGB-D camera (mounted on the gripper) to confirm the correct classification before its removal. With the proposed approach, weeds are all the plants not classified as the main crop known a priori. The performance of the integrated robotic system has been tested in laboratory as well as in open field and in greenhouse conditions. The system was also tested under different light and shadowing conditions to evaluate the performance of the Deep Neural Network. Results show that the identification of the plants (both crop and weeds) is above 95%, increasing to 98% when additional information, such as the intra-row spacing, is provided. Nevertheless, the correct identification of the weeds remains above 97% ensuring an effective removal of weeds (up to 85%) with negligible crop damage (less than 5%)
