Solving N-queen Problem Using Genetic Algorithm by Advance Mutation Operator

    Get PDF
N-queen problem represents a class of constraint problems. It belongs to set of NP-Hard problems. It is applicable in many areas of science and engineering. In this paper N-queen problem is solved using genetic algorithm. A new genetic algoerithm is proposed which uses greedy mutation operator. This new mutation operator solves the N-queen problem very quickly. The proposed algorithm is applied on some instances of N-queen problem and results outperforms the previous findings

Spectra of distorted quantum ring in external fields

    Get PDF
The spectra and response of a single electron on a distorted quantum ring have been studied in detail. The distortion in the ring has been taken care by a geometrical factor. We take few different cases of distortion. Role of strength of the distortion along with the external static and laser field on spectrum has been studied

Production and characterization of used cooking oil as an alternative fuel: optimization by response surface methodology

    Get PDF
The application of biodiesel in internal combustion engines are increasing at a faster rate, due to the fact that biodiesel posses more oxygen content (Approximately 12 %), which helps in the complete combustion of the fuel. On the other hand the production cost of the biodiesel is high compared to mineral diesel fuel. This may be due to the availability of raw oil and its high initial cost. To minimize the high initial cost of the biodiesel used cooking oil is one of the best solutions. In this paper an attempt was made to analyze the fatty acid compositions and other characteristics of used cooking oil. Optimization techniques like response surface methodology (RSM) was successfully used for better yield estimation with the help of advanced software Design Expert. The optimum values of the variables were: oil to methanol ratio (1:8.37), catalyst concentration (0.74 Wt%), reaction temperature (47.950 °C) and reaction time (54.58 min) at 250 rpm. The predicted response value at these optimum values was 96.15 %. To confirm these optimum values, experimentations were conducted based on the optimum values and achieve the yield of 96 %. This shows that the yield of used cooking oil methyl ester is very near to the optimum value with an error of 0.15 % which may be accepted. This showed that the model correctly explains the influence of the process variables on the production of FAME from used cooking oil (UCOME). And from the gas chromatography results there is equal distribution of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids. 14 % oxygen can be acclaimed in UCOME by elemental analysis. Unsaturated level of fatty acids are observed

Herbal or modern methods of contraception! choice is yours

Contraception generally means prevention of pregnancy. There are a variety of methods ranging from natural to scientific available in accordance to its nature of use. Some methods provide short term birth control facility whereas some other provides permanent or long term birth control facility. But all the methods have some advantages and disadvantages associated with them. For example, male condoms which is made of latex, is 97% effective if used properly though some people may have allergic reaction to latex. Oral contraceptives are also widely used but it causes heart attacks, cancer, and depression among pills user women. Herbal contraception offer alternate ways for women to avoid pregnancy and it is also free from any side effects but the reliability of herbal contraceptive remains uncertain

Design, Synthesis, and Biomedical Applications of Glycotripods for Targeting Trimeric Lectins

    Get PDF
In the last decades, various efforts have been made to synthesize optimal glycotripods for targeting trimeric glycoproteins like asialoglycoprotein receptor, hemagglutinin, and langerin. All these trimeric glycoproteins have sugar binding pockets which are highly selective for a particular carbohydrate ligand. Optimized glycotripods are high affinity binders and have been used for delivering drugs or even applied as drug candidates. The selection of the tripodal base scaffold together with the length and flexibility of the linker between the scaffold and sugar residue, as important design parameters are discussed in this review

Reproductive Ecology of Male and Female Strobili and Mating System in Two Different Populations of Pinus roxburghii

    Get PDF
We studied several flowering traits, namely, male-female cone phenology, male-female cone production per tree, mating system, sex ratio, air-borne pollen grains and pollen migration, over four successive years in two different natural populations of P. roxburghii from Garhwal Himalaya, India. Assessment of each trait mentioned except pollen dispersion was done by selecting five representative trees randomly in each population. The pollen migration was studied on naturally isolated source trees. The pollen trapping was done in all directions up to 2.5 km. The average reproductive period in P. roxburghii was 36 days with 3–5 days protandry. There were significant year and population effects for male and female cone output and pollen grains production per tree. In mass production year (1999), an average production of pollen cone per tree was estimated as 42.44 ± 8.32 × 103 at lower altitude and 28.1 ± 0.89 × 103 at higher altitude. The controlled pollination results in high level of outcrossing with 90% seed setting. We conclude that the high male-female ratio and tremendous pollen production capacity in P. roxburghii indicate high male competition among trees within populations. The isolation strip of 600 m is considered minimal for the management of seed orchard

Pollen storage, viability and effect of growth hormones on in vitro pollen germination in two medicinal plants (Clerodendrum colebrookianum Walp. and Clerodendrum infortunatum L.) of the tropical moist forest of North-east India

Clerodendrum colebrookianum Walp. and Clerodendrum infortunatum L. are well known for their medicinal uses in treating various human ailments traditionally. Pollen biology study was done in both plant species to decipher pollen viability, in vitro pollen germination, and pollen storage in varied temperature conditions. Pollen viability tests was done by 2, 3, 5-triphenyl tetrazolium chloride (TTC test) for which pollen grains were collected at the anthesis stage that ascertained high viability, ranged between 71.97%±4.30 % in C. colebrookianum and 81.63%±3.23 in C. infortunatum. In vitro pollen germination was conducted under different hormones (IBA, IAA, GA3, and Kinetin) with concentrations of 100 mg L-1, 200 mg L-1 and 300 mg L-1. Highest germination percentage of 52.10±5.30% and 61.91±1.76% in GA3 (200 mg L-1) was the most suitable growth hormone concentration for inducing in vitro pollen germination in both Clerodendrum species. Statistically, the response of all the concentrations of treatments, sucrose, and hormones, with their time on in vitro pollen germination of C. colebrookianum and C. infortunatum was found significantly different (p<0.05). In contrast, non-significant differences were recorded for in vitro pollen germination between the medicinal plant species. Pollen storage under temperature gradient conditions exhibited a similar trend in the viability for both C. colebrookianum, and C. infortunatum, i.e., the pollen remained viable up to 28 days at -20°C and 6°C, respectively. This study will be helpful in future breeding, hybridization, and conservation efforts for both the Clerodendrum species.

A model synthetic approach towards the furanacetal component of azadirachtin: a potent insect antifeedant

In this article, a model synthetic approach towards the furanacetal component of azadirachtin has been described from α-D-glucose. Tandem radical cyclization was the key step for the formation of the desired tricyclic system. The reaction provided a bicyclic system instead of the desired tricyclic molecule. The reason for the unsuccessful tandem cyclization was proposed to be mainly energy factors
