With the increasing technological innovation, the concept of marketing and its applications become more functional and wide. Today is visible the development of mobile marketing campaigns, ie marketing campaigns for mobile devices (mobile phones, smartphones, PDAs, tablets). Taking advantage of mobile devices services (bluetooth networks, Wi-Fi, WAP, SMS service, MMS) as a vehicle to approach and communicate with consumers, bluetooth technology is a potential way of mobile marketing to become increasingly less invasive to consumers. This study seeks to answer the question "what factors may motivate the Portuguese consumer to adopt the bluetooth marketing?". According to the literature review on the concept of mobile marketing, bluetooth marketing and consumer behaviour theories, we propose a conceptual model capable of investigating the relationships between the determinants of responsiveness to bluetooth marketing. The empirical study developed from a set of hypotheses and implementation of an online questionnaire to a sample of 755 respondents, demonstrated that there is a relationship between factors such as, technology ease of use, file exchanging and influence of peers, and the receptivity to bluetooth marketing. Also information value of mobile advertising messages, such as entertainment and personalization relates to responsiveness. The consumer’s perceived control over mobile promotional messages and the safety features of the technology, also showed a positive relationship with the receptivity to bluetooth marketing

A amostra envolveu 278 estudantes universitários portugueses. We seek to understand (a) if the penta-dimensional structure (dimensions: adaptability, value of older people to the organization, conscientiousness and loyalty; capital and generosity; performance) of the measuring instrument of managers’ attitudes towards older workers previously developed is replicated in a sample of university students and (b) whether these attitudes help to explain the decisions of students. The sample involved 278 university students. The main results are the following: (a) the penta-dimensional structure obtained with Portuguese and Brazilian managers is replicated in the sample of students; (b) although students recognize qualities in older workers, they tend to reveal discriminatory practices with respect to such employees, and those practices appear to be more pronounced than those observed with managers.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Home monitoring in Portugal: an overview on current experiences

This paper aims to be a contribution to the discussion on the issue of innovation in healthcare since, in the author’s perspective, the health sector, and particularly the Portuguese National Health Service, needs changes in its "business model". There is a need of redirecting care provision to the citizen’s natural environment, namely considering the opportunities offered by information and communication technologies. For this purpose the authors surveyed projects already implemented in Portugal, within the Portuguese National Health Service, related to home monitoring, in order to make a critical analysis of the state of the art of ongoing projects. In this study, the authors identified four pilot experiences of home monitoring, all targeted at chronic disease. In spite of some results of these experiments are already known, there is a shortage of available information and scientific evidence, both about the implementation processes themselves and about their clinical, technical an d economic evaluation, which, in the opinion of the authors, also hinders their assessment and dissemination.publishe

With increasing technological innovation, the concept of marketing and its applications become more functional and wide. Today, we witness a steady growth in the development of mobile marketing campaigns, i.e., marketing campaigns targeting mobile devices (mobile phones, Smartphones, PDAs, tablets). Among the several mobile technologies available (Bluetooth networks, Wi-Fi, WAP, SMS service, MMS), Bluetooth seems to have the biggest potential for the least invasive consumer mobile marketing strategy. This study seeks to answer the question "what factors may motivate the Portuguese consumer to accept Bluetooth marketing?.“ We propose a conceptual model capable of investigating the relationships between the several responsiveness factors to Bluetooth marketing. The development of a set of hypotheses supported by an online questionnaire to a valid sample of 755 participants, demonstrates that there is a relationship between factors such as expanded knowledge of the technology, and Bluetooth marketing receptivity. Additionally, we find that the information value of mobile advertising messages, such as entertainment value and personalization, relates well to responsiveness. The ability to accept/dismiss promotional messages sent to mobile phones and other safety features also correlated well with Bluetooth marketing receptivity

An antifouling model from the sea: a review of 25 years of zosteric acid studies

Many studies have shown that natural marine compounds can prevent biofouling by a broad spectrum of organisms without toxic effects, encouraging their use in antifouling (AF) coatings. Studies over the past 25 years of the natural product zosteric acid (ZA) are systematically organized in this review. ZA is a sulfated phenolic acid produced by the seagrass Zostera marina that has very promising AF potential against several micro- and macrofouling organisms. ZA was shown to have appropriate environmental fate parameters such as high water solubility, a low log P, low bioaccumulation, and no ecotoxicity, which demonstrated the potential of ZA as a safe AF agent. This review also highlights that ZA has been successfully incorporated into several types of coatings. The synthesis of analogs is also considered in this review, and it has allowed a better understanding of ZA structure–AF activity relationships and clarified the mechanism of action of ZA

Quantification of a Sulfated Marine-Inspired Antifouling Compound in Several Aqueous Matrices: Biodegradation Studies and Leaching Assays from Polydimethylsiloxane Coatings

The development of marine-inspired compounds as non-toxic antifouling (AF) agents has been pursued in the last years. Sulfur is the third most common element in seawater. Sulfur is present in oxygenated seawater as sulfate anion (SO42−), which is the most stable combination of sulfur in seawater, and several promising AF secondary metabolites with sulfate groups have been described. However, sulfated compounds proved to be an analytical challenge to quantify by HPLC. Taking these facts into consideration, this work presents the development and validation of a method for the quantification of gallic acid persulfate (GAP) in seawater and ultrapure water matrix, based on hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC). This method was used to evaluate GAP stability following several abiotic and biotic degradation assays, and to quantify its release in seawater from room-temperature-vulcanizing polydimethylsiloxane commercial coating. GAP was very stable in several water matrices, even at different pH values and in the presence/absence of marine microorganisms and presented a leaching value lower than 0.5%. This work discloses HILIC as an analytical method to overcome the difficulties in quantifying sulfated compounds in water matrices and highlights the potential of GAP as a promising long-lasting coating
