This article seeks to examine the poems in these praise poetry collections. Abdul Rahman's poems are expressions of emotions. Zooplankton biomass along the west coast of India and its effect on the fishery

The coastal zone along the west coast of India is very productive with a mean secondary production rate of 5.89 mg C/m super(3)/day. Statewise, maximum zooplankton standing stock was observed off Maharashtra. The existing yield of fishery from the surveyed region has been compared with the estimated sustainable fishery potential

On the simplest (2+1) dimensional integrable spin systems and their equivalent nonlinear Schr\"odinger equations

Using a moving space curve formalism, geometrical as well as gauge equivalence between a (2+1) dimensional spin equation (M-I equation) and the (2+1) dimensional nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation (NLSE) originally discovered by Calogero, discussed then by Zakharov and recently rederived by Strachan, have been estabilished. A compatible set of three linear equations are obtained and integrals of motion are discussed. Through stereographic projection, the M-I equation has been bilinearized and different types of solutions such as line and curved solitons, breaking solitons, induced dromions, and domain wall type solutions are presented. Breaking soliton solutions of (2+1) dimensional NLSE have also been reported. Generalizations of the above spin equation are discussed.Comment: 32 pages, no figures, accepted for publication in J. Motion of Curves and Surfaces and Nonlinear Evolution Equations in (2+1) Dimensions

It is shown that a class of important integrable nonlinear evolution equations in (2+1) dimensions can be associated with the motion of space curves endowed with an extra spatial variable or equivalently, moving surfaces. Geometrical invariants then define topological conserved quantities. Underlying evolution equations are shown to be associated with a triad of linear equations. Our examples include Ishimori equation and Myrzakulov equations which are shown to be geometrically equivalent to Davey-Stewartson and Zakharov -Strachan (2+1) dimensional nonlinear Schr\"odinger equations respectively.Comment: 13 pages, RevTeX, to appear in J. Radiation effects on flow past an impulsively started vertical plate with variable temperature and mass flux

An analysis is performed to study the thermal radiation effects on unsteady free convective flow over a moving vertical plate in the presence of variable temperature and uniform mass flux. The fluid considered here is a gray, absorbing-emitting radiation but a non-scattering medium. The temperature is raised linearly with time and the concentration level near the plate are raised linearly with time. The dimensionless governing equations are solved using the Laplace transform technique. The velocity and skinfriction are studied for different parameters like the radiation parameter, Schmidt number, thermal Grashof number, mass Grashof number and time. It is observed that the velocity increases with decreasing radiation parameter

Antimicrobial activity of various extracts of whole plant of Anisomeles malabarica (Linn.) R. Br.

Anisomeles malabarica (Linn.) R.Br. is a traditional medicinal plant of Lamiaceae family, distributed throughout India. All the three extracts petroleum ether, Ethyl Acetate, methanol of Anisomeles malabarica (Linn.) R.Br. were tested for Antimicrobial efficacy against gram positive and gram negative bacterial and then fungal organisms. The methanolic extract of Anisomeles malabarica (Linn.) R.Br. were exhibited maximum antibacterial and anti fungal activity when compared with other two extracts. Hence it can be concluded that the methanolic extract of Anisomeles malabarica (Linn.) R.Br. possess a significant Antimicrobial activity. This also stands as a scientific support for the usage of this plant for wound healing

Lifestyle and Language in Thirumurugatrupadai

Tamil literature clearly reflects the lifestyle of the ancient Tamils. In the field of anthropology Tamil literature plays an important role. The richness of a country's language is judged by the richness of its literature in the regional language spoken by the people of that country. The ideas found in those literary works shapes the mind and lifestyle of both the present and future generation too. Thirumurugatrupadai which is one among the Pattuppattu (anthology) is about a person who is blessed by the lord Murugan, comforting another servant to Murugan. In this text author Nakkiranar has sung songs in six sections about the places where Murugan used to stay such as Tiruparanguntram, Tiruchendur, Palani, Swamimalai, Palamuthircholai and Kuntuthoradal. Thus, the article briefly explains about the Kurinji land people, their customs, how they worshipped lord Murugan, their clothing, accessories, the sense of solidarity with relatives, the spirit of living together, chastity, and the development of virtue. All these things strengthen the richness of the Tamil language

Prevalence of hypothyroidism in first trimester screening and its association with maternal and foetal outcomes

Background: Maternal hypothyroid is one of the common thyroid disorder. Hypothyroidism in pregnant women who are not treated can cause premature birth, low birth weight, and respiratory distress in the newborn. Objectives were to find out the prevalence of hypothyroidism in pregnant women during first trimester screening and its association with maternal and foetal outcomes. Methods: The present study was a hospital based study carried out in the department of obstetrics and gynaecology, Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute, Kelambakkam, Chennai, India between January 2021 and January 2023. The study was carried out among the pregnant women in the first trimester visiting the outpatient department of the OBG department during the study period. Based on the thyroid profile obtained, the participants were classified into normal, subclinical hypothyroidism and overt hypothyroidism. They were then followed up to record the maternal and foetal outcome. Results: A total of 2017 patients were included in the study. The prevalence of hypothyroidism was 15.3%. The distribution of type of delivery was found to be different between hypothyroid and normal groups with more number of women underwent Caesarean delivery (18.24%) in the hypothyroid group than those in normal group. The proportion of low birth weight was also statistically higher (45.28%) in the hypothyroid group than in the normal. Similar pattern was observed with birth asphyxia. The APGAR scores recorded were also significantly lower in the hypothyroid group than in the euthyroid group with p value of less than 0.05. Conclusions: The prevalence of hypothyroidism was 15.3%. In our study, women with hypothyroidism showed adverse maternal and foetal outcome such as more caesarean deliveries, low birth weight, and poor APGAR scores and were found to be statistically significant when compared to euthyroid women
