    Sun Pharmaceutical is a trailblazer in Indian pharmaceutical sector, and one of the foremost competitors in the generic drug market sets its eye onRanbaxy. Sun pharmacy which was established in 1983 listed from 1994 has its upper hand in product development. Ranbaxy was incorporated in1973, and Daiichi Sankyo, a Japanese firm, got a controlling share from 2008. This amalgamation between Sun Pharmacy and Ranbaxy would get profitable transaction for the former. The process of the coalition was a cloak and dagger affair until April 6, 2014. Before mergers and acquisitions, a company has to create an urgency call among the employees which will result in better understanding of the whole scenario. The aspects are about how financial motives and non-financial motives play a major role in mergers.     Space based inputs for health service development planning in rural areas using GIS

    The use of Geospatial Techniques for quick decision making is the demand of the time. Geospatial techniques play a very important role to help decision makers, stakeholders and citizens for planning at various levels of governance. Geospatial technology is fast and accurate enough to make analysis and derive the useful results to help the decision makers in planning process. This has augmented the need for development of a model utilising the geospatial datasets to automatize the process which can aid in quick decision making for effective planning and development at village level. The objective of this research work is to build a spatial model for identifying suitable sites for hospital in rural areas. A pilot study has been carried out which aims to identify and prioritize the potential sites for hospitals/Clinic utilizing the 1:10 k scale database with the help of Geographic Information System (GIS) in Hisar, Harayana, India. This study identifies the following factors as indicators of suitability for landscape: road connectivity, demography and location of existing facilities. The evaluating process for suitable hospital/clinic sites have been carried out based on five chosen criteria including land use/cover type, road network and settlement location, proximity to existing facilities and population. The outcome of the model has been further used as input to Location-allocation tool in GIS to select the suitable location for medical and health facilities. The adopted methodology identifies the 10 new suitable sites for medical and health facilities by putting all the criteria with the actual resources of the region. The proposed approach can be effectively utilized by the Government for Health Service Development Planning in Rural areas where medical and health facilities are poor

    Experimental Investigations on Dry Sliding Wear Behavior of Kevlar and Natural Fiber-Reinforced Hybrid Composites through an RSM–GRA Hybrid Approach

    The present work aimed to investigate the dry sliding wear behaviors of hybrid polymer matrix composites made up of Kevlar, bamboo, palm, and Aloe vera as reinforcement materials of varying stacking sequences, along with epoxy as the matrix material. Three combinations of composite laminates with different stacking sequences such as AB, BC, and CA were fabricated by a vacuum-assisted compression molding process. The influence of composite laminates fabricated through various stacking sequences and dry sliding wear test variables such as load, sliding distance, and sliding velocity on the specific wear rate and co-efficient of friction were investigated. Experiments were designed and statistical validation was performed through response surface methodology-based D-optimal design and analysis of variance. The optimization was performed using grey relational analysis (GRA) to identify the optimal parameters to enhance the wear resistance of hybrid polymer composites under dry sliding conditions. The optimal parameters, such as composite combinations of CA, a load of 5 N, a sliding velocity of 3 m/s, and a sliding distance of 1500 m, were obtained.     Objectives In this study, tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) was evaluated for its therapeutic potential as an alternative therapy for epileptogenesis and its associated comorbidities in rats. Methods The sub-convulsant dose of pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) (35 mg/kg, intraperitoneally) was injected on alternative days to produce kindling for 32 days and observed for seizure score percent of kindled animals in each group. After kindling, the animals were evaluated in models of anxiety, memory and predictive of depression. The neuroprotective effect of TMP was assessed by estimating the biochemical parameters in the cortex and hippocampus of the brain. Histopathological alterations were also observed in the cortex and hippocampus (CA1, CA3 and DG). Key findings The administration of TMP reduced the seizure score and percentage of kindled animals dose-dependently. Furthermore, TMP significantly improved the behavioural parameters measured in the predictive models of depression but not in the anxiety and cognitive performances of the animals. The oxidative-nitrosative stress, excitotoxicity, neuroinflammation and histological alterations in the brain induced by PTZ were significantly mitigated by administering the TMP high dose of 60 mg/kg. Conclusion In conclusion, the TMP attenuated the depression behaviour in the PTZ-induced kindled rats, and reduced the oxidative-nitrosative stress, excitotoxicity, neuroinflammation and histological alterations of the brain

    Elevated tricuspid regurgitation velocity in congenital hemolytic anemias: Prevalence and laboratory correlates

    Elevated tricuspid valve regurgitation jet velocity (TRV ≥ 2.5 m/s) is associated with mortality among adults with sickle cell disease (SCD), but correlative biomarkers are not studied according to treatment exposure or genotypes. To investigate the associations between biomarkers and TRV elevation, we examined the relationship between TRV and hemolytic, inflammatory, and cardiac biomarkers, stratified by disease-modifying treatments and SCD genotype. In total, 294 participants with SCD (mean age, 11.0 ± 3.7 years) and 49 hereditary spherocytosis (HS; mean age, 22.9 ± 19.75 years) were included for comparison and enrolled. TRV was elevated in 30.7% of children with SCD overall: 18.8% in HbSC/HbSβ+-thalassemia, 28.9% in untreated HbSS/HbSβ0-thalassemia, 34.2% in HbSS/HbSβ0-thalassemia hydroxyurea-treated, and 57% in HbSS/HbSβ0-thalassemia chronic transfusion treated. TRV was elevated in 10.7% and 27.8% in HS children and adults, respectively. In children with SCD, elevated TRV was correlated with hemoglobin (odds ratio [OR] = 0.78, P = 0.004), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH; OR = 2.52, P = 0.005), and N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-pro BNP; OR = 1.003, P = 0.004). In multivariable logistic regression, adjusting for genotype, sex, hemolytic index, and treatment, hemoglobin concentration remained the only significant variable associated with elevated TRV in untreated HbSS/HbSβ0-thalassemia participants. TRV was not associated with inflammatory markers, other markers of hemolysis, or NT-pro BNP in untreated HbSS/HbSβ0-thalassemia. Neither hemoglobin nor LDH was associated with TRV in HbSC/HbSβ+-thalassemia. These results suggest that elevated TRV is influenced by the degree of anemia, possibly reflecting sickling as part of the disease pathophysiology. Prospective studies should monitor hemoglobin concentration as children with SCD age into adulthood, prompting initiation of TRV screening and monitoring
