Background: Induction of labour is one of the common interventions in obstetric practice. Cervical assessment has been used as a prediction of the successful vaginal delivery. This study is designed to investigate transvaginal ultrasonographic cervical measurement as a predictor of duration of labour and successful induction resulting in vaginal delivery and compare the performance of ultrasonographic cervical measurement with that of the Bishop score in predicting the outcome of labour induction. Methods: It is a prospective observational study. In this study, for the 100 primigravida women with gestational age of 37-42 weeks of gestation admitted for induction of labour, the cervical length was measured by transvaginal ultrasound and then Bishop Score was assessed by digital examination. Predictive values for successful labour induction were detected and compared. Results: Using Spearman’s rho correlation both TVS cervical length and Bishop score have significant correlation in predicting the success of induction of labour. Cervical length is the better predictor of the likelihood of delivering vaginally within 24hrs.  In the receiver operating characteristic curves, the best cut-off points for the prediction of successful induction was 26mm for cervical length and 4 for the Bishop Score. However, TVS cervical length appears to be a better predictor than the Bishop Score, with a sensitivity of 58.1% and a specificity of 100% compared to 70.3% and 45.5% respectively. Conclusions: Transvaginal sonographic measurement of cervical length is a better predictor of the likelihood of successful induction of labour within 24hrs of induction and increased vaginal deliveries within 48 hours of induction when compared to Bishop Score

A simple, precise, accurate and economical UV spectrophotometric method has been developed and validated for the estimation of Minoxidil in the tablet dosage form. Minoxidil shows maximum absorbance at 279.4nm. The method was carried out by using 0.1N HCl as a solvent. The drug shows linearity from the concentration range of 1-6µg/ml and correlation coefficient was found to be 0.9992. The proposed method was statistically validated for precision, accuracy, ruggedness, robustness, the limit of detection, quantitation as per the ICH guidelines. Hence this method can be successfully applied for routine analysis of Minoxidil in bulk and tablet dosage form

Background: Every effort to promote effective contraceptive methods as well as emergency contraception is being made, still there would be a need and place for termination of pregnancy. Objective of present study was to evaluate and to know the efficacy and adverse effects of tablet misoprostol 400 micro gram as a cervical priming agent administered either by oral or vaginal route, 3 hours before MTP.Methods: Prospective randomized not blinded study carried out for two years at Government Tertiary care level hospital, OBG Department, Mangalore on 100 women with gestational age up to 12 weeks requesting for surgical abortion. Results: In both the groups there was no significant statistical difference with respect to age (p=0.44), parity and gestational age (p=0.59). With respect to baseline cervical dilatation significant statistical difference was not observed in both the groups. Baseline dilatation of the cervix was 8.0 mm versus 8.2 mm (p value=0.55). Baseline cervical dilatation was ≥7mm in 90% of women when tab misoprostol was given by oral route and 94% with vaginal route. There was no significant statistical difference with respect to side effects (p value>0.05) except nausea (p=0.01) found in both the groups. Gastro Intestinal side effects were more in oral misoprostol group, but it was not statistically significant. Conclusions: Oral route is an effective alternative to vaginal route. Oral route is preferred over vaginal route because women can do self-administration at home and there was no internal examination discomfort

A few entrepreneurs at Sakthikulangara launched three medium deep sea trawlers in September-October, 1988, aiming offshore resources like deep-sea prawns and lobsters and other quality fishes in the sea beyond 50 metres. Among these newly introduced vessels, two are wooden and the third is steel built. The specification of both type of vessels are tabled in this report. When compared to the existing trawlers they are much bigger in size, horse power, capacity and endurance, and well equipped in all respects

Achieve Secure Handover Session Key Management via Mobile Relay in LTE-Advanced Networks

    Get PDF
Internet of Things is increasing the network by group action immense quantity of close objects which needs the secure and reliable transmission of the high volume knowledge generation, and also the mobile relay technique is one among the economical ways in which to satisfy the on-board knowledge explosion in LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) networks. However, the observe of the mobile relay can cause potential threats to the knowledge security throughout the relinquishing method. Therefore, to handle this challenge, during this paper, we have a tendency to propose a secure relinquishing session key management theme via mobile relay in LTE-A networks. Specifically, within the planned theme, to realize forward and backward key separations, the session key shared between the on-board user instrumentality (UE) and also the connected donor evolved node B (DeNB) is initial generated by the on-board UE then firmly distributed to the DeNB. moreover, to cut back the communication overhead and also the process complexness, a unique proxy re-encryption technique is used, wherever the session keys at the start encrypted with the general public key of the quality management entity (MME) are going to be re-encrypted by a mobile relay node (MRN), so alternative DeNB will later rewrite the session keys with their own non-public keys whereas while not the direct involvement of the MME. elaborated security analysis shows that the planned theme will with success establish session keys between the on-board UEs and their connected DeNB, achieving backward and forward key separations, and resisting against the collusion between the MRN and also the DeNB because the same time. Additionally, performance evaluations via in depth simulations area unit applied to demonstrate the potency and effectiveness of the planned theme

Laboratory Column flotation studies for reduction of alumina and silica in iron ore slimes of an operating plant

A typical iron ore washing plant for treating iron ore fines (<10 mm) consist of sizing of the ore by dry / wet screening, washing, classification by screw classifiers followed by single or multi-stage hydrocycloning of screw classifiers overflow. The underflow of the hydrocyclones forms the concentrate which is suitable for pellets making. Since the cut-point of hydrocyclones is usually at 20 µm or less, relatively lower diameter cyclones in a cluster with parallel feeding are used. This is found to, often, result in choking of the spigots, at times, by extraneous material reporting along with the slurry. It is observed to lead to sub-optimum performance of the cyclones with loss of iron values into cyclone overflow and thereafter into tailings. Analysis of the data of an operating beneficiation plant (Beneficiation plant - 1) of M/s Jindal South West (JSW) Steel Limited, Karnataka, India over a period of one year indicated that weight recovery of the concentrate from two-stage hydrocycloning was 45.9% (with respect to feed to the cyclones) and assaying 63.43% Fe, 4.43% SiO2 and 2.23% Al2O3. Considering the fineness of the slimes (d80: 40.5 µm), generated as screw classifier overflow, flotation is thought to be better alternative vis-à-vis hydrocyclones to recover iron values from it. The present study aims at improving the recovery of the iron values from the screw classifier overflow by adopting reverse cationic column flotation technology. After selecting a suitable collector, process parameters like collector and depressant dosages are optimized by statistically designed experiments on a Denver D12 flotation cell. Later, the effect of important operating parameters of flotation column like air flow-rate, froth depth and wash water on the separation process is studied and optimized. It was established that a typical screw classifier overflow analyzing 60.43% Fe, 6.88% SiO2 and 3.26% Al2O3 could be improved to 63.30% Fe, 4.04% SiO2 and 2.32% Al2O3 with 59.10% weight and 61.70% Fe recovery. This is an improvement of 29% in weight recovery of the concentrate at equivalent metallurgy compared to what is being obtained, by two-stage cycloning

Agile Software Development: A Case Study of Web Application

    Get PDF
Agile methodology is an approach used for the development of a project which helps to respond to the unpredictability of building software through incremental, iterative work cadences. These methodologies are used to deal with the situations where the waterfall model fails. The biggest drawback of waterfall model is that it assumes that every requirement of the project can be identified before any design or coding occurs [1]. In this paper we are specifying the differences in the development of a project by using the Agile Methods: Extreme Programming (XP) and Scrum through a case study on Women2019;s Era (WE- A State Level Women Development and Support)

This study investigates the endophytic fungal diversity of three endemic plants of Tirumala hills also their capabilities for the production of hydrolysing enzymes and secondary metabolites. Our study provides the first evidence on the diversity, enzyme and metabolite charecterisation of fungal endophytes from the untapped endemic plants of Tirumala Hills of Seshachalam Biosphere Reserve, Easternghats, Andhra Pradesh, India. A total of 13 endophytic fungi isolates were obtained and grouped into seven genera based on the morphological traits, indicating endophytic fungi in Shorea thumbuggaia, Boswellia ovalifoliolata, Pterocarpus santalinus were diverse and abundant. Fusarium, Penicillium, Aspergillus and Colletotrichum were the dominant genera, whereas the remaining genera were less frequent. The 13 representative species of the distinct genera were capable of producing hydrolysing enzymes. Phytochemical analysis showed the production of various secondary metabolites that included saponins, carbohydrates, phenolics, glycosides and flavonoids. This investigation also reveals that the metabolites produced by a variety of endophytic fungi can be a potential source of novel natural therapeutic agents. Keywords: Endemic plants, fungal endophytes, hydrolyzing enzymes, secondary metabolites, Tirumala Hills.African Journal of Biotechnology Vol. 12(27), pp. 4317-432
