"The periodic table of videos": an excellent bridge between university research and the high school chemistry classroom

Els professors saben que la motivació a classe i al laboratori és un factor clau per a la promoció de les vocacions científiques. Amb aquest article volem mostrar un interessant projecte desenvolupat a la Universitat de Nottingham amb aquest objectiu. «The periodic table of videos» (PTOV) s'ha convertit en un excel·lent pont entre la recerca universitària i l'aula de química a secundària. Aquesta proposta té com a objectiu fomentar vocacions científiques, així com millorar la visió de la química i incrementar la cultura científica en la societat.Teachers and professors know that excitement within the class and school lab is a key factor for promoting vocations. With this article we want to show an interesting project developed from the University of Nottingham that has this objective. «The periodic table of videos» (PTOV) has become an excellent bridge between university research and the high school chemistry classroom. "Reacciona... explota!", un taller per fomentar vocacions científiques

El taller «Reacciona... explota!» és un projecte de divulgació científica que permet descobrir la cara més atractiva de la química als estudiants preuniversitaris. Consisteix en la realització d'experiments de química recreativa. Els alumnes senten un especial interès pels experiments sorprenents i espectaculars, amb canvis de color, llum, soroll, fum... Tots tenen un nom molt atractiu: «El monstre del vàter», «La serp del faraó», «El món del fred», «La reacció termita»...The workshop «React... explode!» is a project of science that shows the most attractive side of chemistry to pre-university students. It consists of carrying out recreational chemical experiments. Most students have more interest in the amazing and spectacular experiments which involve changes of colour, light, noise, smoke... The names of the experiments are very attractive: «The toilet’s monster», «The pharaoh’s snake», «The world of cold», «The termite reaction»..

"UAu, això és química!"

«UAu, això és química!» és una eina al servei dels professors de química de batxillerat. Consisteix en vídeos de curta durada que tracten setze temes de química. Aquests temes es corresponen amb el temari de batxillerat, dels estats de la matèria a les reaccions químiques, de l'estructura atòmica a la química orgànica. L'estructura dels vídeos és la mateixa: es parteix d'una situació quotidiana, propera als alumnes, de la qual sorgeix una pregunta. Els científics responen amb una curta explicació acompanyada d'un experiment químic espectacular. Així, aquests vídeos poden esdevenir una bona forma d'introduir un tema a l'aula.«UAu, this is chemistry!» is a tool for high school chemistry teachers. It consists of short videos that deal with sixteen chemistry issues. These topics relate to the Chemistry curriculum at high school: from the states of matter in chemical reactions to atomic structure in organic chemistry. The structure of the videos is the same: they start with an everyday situation, relevant to the students, in which a question arises. Scientists respond with a short explanation accompanied by a spectacular chemical experiment. These videos can therefore become a good way to introduce a topic in the classroom

Química recreativa i eines 2.0 per a la didàctica i divulgació de la química

Que la societat sovint té una visió negativa de la química i que la recerca científica que té lloc a les universitats es percep com a llunyana per part de la població són fets coneguts. En aquest article, fruit de la presentació feta per l'autor principal a la VII Trobada de Joves Investigadors dels Països Catalans, organitzada el febrer de 2012 per la Societat Catalana de Química (SCQ), es presenten diversos projectes duts a terme des de la Càtedra de Cultura Científica i Comunicació Digital de la Universitat de Girona (C4D, UdG) per tal d'apropar la recerca científica i la química en particular a la societat i, especialment, als estudiants preuniversitaris. La química recreativa, així com les eines TIC i 2.0, són l'eix vertebrador i innovador d'aquests projectes.It is known that society often takes a negative view of chemistry and perceives the scientific research conducted in universities as something distant. This paper presents different projects carried out by the Càtedra de Cultura Científica i Comunicació Digital of Universitat de Girona (C4D, UdG) to draw scientific research — and chemistry in particular — closer to society and, particularly, to pre-university students. Recreational chemistry as well as ICT and 2.0 tools form the backbone of these innovative projects. Construir ponts entre la universitat, l'ensenyament no universitari i la societat. Innovació en la didàctica i en la comunicació de la recerca a l'aula de química a secundària

El present article explica el projecte de col·laboració entre els grups de recerca i divulgació química de la Universitat de Girona (UdG) i la Universitat de Nottingham (UoN). Aquest projecte neix de l'estada de recerca de l'autor principal de l'article a la universitat britànica durant la realització de la seva tesi doctoral. La col·laboració entre la Càtedra de Cultura Científica de la UdG i el grup de recerca i comunicació que porta el projecte «The periodic table of videos» de la UoN té l'objectiu d'innovar en l'establiment de ponts entre el grup de recerca universitari i l'aula de química a l'educació secundària.In this paper we present a collaboration project carried out between research groups on communication in chemistry at the University of Girona (UdG) and the University of Nottingham (UoN). This project has its origin in a research stay by the principal author of the paper at the University of Nottingham during his PhD work. The collaboration between the Chair of Scientific Culture and Digital Communication of the UdG and “The periodic table of videos” team of the UoN, aims to innovate in building bridges between university research groups and high school chemistry classrooms

50th anniversary of the Blanes International Fireworks Competition: Celebrating it with 50 chemical elements on a fireworks night

Amb motiu de la celebració del cinquantè aniversari del Concurs Internacional de Focs d’Artifici de la Costa Brava: Trofeu Vila de Blanes, ens fixarem en la química que envolta una nit de focs. I ho farem anant més enllà de la mateixa composició química dels artefactes pirotècnics. Ho farem in situ, descobrint un total de cinquanta elements químics mentre contemplem l’espectacle des de la sorra, arran de mar, una nit de finals de juliol. Cinquanta elements per a cinquanta anys de Concurs de Focs.Paraules clau: Focs artificials, pirotècnia, Blanes, química quotidiana, elements químics, taula periòdica.On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Blanes International Fireworks Competition - City of Blanes Trophy, we discuss the chemistry involved in a fireworks night. The periodic table of elements. A drawer of online resources

Aquest treball recull recursos didàctics que trobem a la xarxa (jocs, simulacions, infografies, cançons…) per presentar i treballar la taula periòdica en una classe de secundària. Tots els que es presenten han estat seleccionats i es troben catalogats segons la tipologia. Tal com ha experimentat l’autor de l’article, aquestes eines, ben utilitzades, poden ser la clau per a la motivació de l’estudiant menys apassionat i fer de catalitzadors per a l’autèntic aprenentatge.paraules clau: Taula periòdica, recursos educatius, gamificació, jocs, aplicacions.This work collects educational resources we can find on the web (games, simulations, infographics, songs…) to present and study the periodic table at secondary school. All the resources presented here have been selected and are cataloged according to its typology.
