Comment on "High Field Studies of Superconducting Fluctuations in High-Tc Cuprates. Evidence for a Small Gap distinct from the Large Pseudogap"
By using high magnetic field data to estimate the background conductivity,
Rullier-Albenque and coworkers have recently published [Phys.Rev.B 84, 014522
(2011)] experimental evidence that the in-plane paraconductivity in cuprates is
almost independent of doping. In this Comment we also show that, in contrast
with their claims, these useful data may be explained at a quantitative level
in terms of the Gaussian-Ginzburg-Landau approach for layered superconductors,
extended by Carballeira and coworkers to high reduced-temperatures by
introducing a total-energy cutoff [Phys.Rev.B 63, 144515 (2001)]. When
combined, these two conclusions further suggest that the paraconductivity in
cuprates is conventional, i.e., associated with fluctuating superconducting
pairs above the mean-field critical temperature.Comment: 9 pages, 1 figur
Hydrogen column density evaluations toward Capella: consequences on the interstellar deuterium abundance
The deuterium abundance evaluation in the direction of Capella has for a long
time been used as a reference for the local interstellar medium (ISM) within
our Galaxy. We show here that broad and weak HI components could be present on
the Capella line of sight, leading to a large new additional systematic
uncertainty on the N(HI) evaluation.
The D/H ratio toward Capella is found to be equal to 1.67 (+/-0.3)x10^-5 with
almost identical chi^2 for all the fits (this range includes only the
systematic error; the 2 sigma statistical one is almost negligible in
comparison). It is concluded that D/H evaluations over HI column densities
below 10^19 cm^-2 (even perhaps below 10^20 cm^-2 if demonstrated by additional
observations) may present larger uncertainties than previously anticipated. It
is mentionned that the D/O ratio might be a better tracer for DI variations in
the ISM as recently measured by the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer

Simulation of anyons with tensor network algorithms
Interacting systems of anyons pose a unique challenge to condensed matter
simulations due to their non-trivial exchange statistics. These systems are of
great interest as they have the potential for robust universal quantum
computation, but numerical tools for studying them are as yet limited. We show
how existing tensor network algorithms may be adapted for use with systems of
anyons, and demonstrate this process for the 1-D Multi-scale Entanglement
Renormalisation Ansatz (MERA). We apply the MERA to infinite chains of
interacting Fibonacci anyons, computing their scaling dimensions and local
scaling operators. The scaling dimensions obtained are seen to be in agreement
with conformal field theory. The techniques developed are applicable to any
tensor network algorithm, and the ability to adapt these ansaetze for use on
anyonic systems opens the door for numerical simulation of large systems of

How to escape Aharonov-Bohm cages ?
We study the effect of disorder and interactions on a recently proposed
magnetic field induced localization mechanism. We show that both partially
destroy the extreme confinement of the excitations occuring in the pure case
and give rise to unusual behavior. We also point out the role of the edge
states that allows for a propagation of the electrons in these systems.Comment: 22 pages, 20 EPS figure
Radio detection of the young binary HD 160934
Precise determination of dynamical masses of pre-main-sequence (PMS) stars is
essential to calibrate stellar evolution models that are widely used to derive
theoretical masses of young low-mass objects. Binary stars in young, nearby
loose associations are particularly good candidates for this calibration since
all members share a common age. Interestingly, some of these young binaries
present a persistent and compact radio emission, which makes them excellent
targets for astrometric VLBI studies. We aim to monitor the orbital motion of
the binary system HD 160934, a member of the AB Doradus moving group. We
observed HD 160934 with the Very Large Array and the European VLBI Network at
8.4 and 5 GHz, respectively. The orbital information derived from these
observations was analyzed along with previously reported orbital measurements.
We show that the two components of the binary, HD 160934 A and HD 160934 c,
display compact radio emission at VLBI scales, providing precise information on
the relative orbit. Revised orbital elements were estimated. Future VLBI
monitoring of this pair should determine precise model-independent mass
estimates for the A and c components, which will serve as calibration tests for

Pairing of Cooper Pairs in a Fully Frustrated Josephson Junction Chain
We study a one-dimensional Josephson junction chain embedded in a magnetic
field. We show that when the magnetic flux per elementary loop equals half the
superconducting flux quantum , a local \nbZ_2 symmetry arises.
This symmetry is responsible for a nematic Luttinger liquid state associated to
bound states of Cooper pairs. We analyze the phase diagram and we discuss some
experimental possibilities to observe this exotic phase.Comment: 4 pages, 4 EPS figure
Corrigendum to "The upper atmosphere of the exoplanet HD209458b revealed by the sodium D lines: Temperature-pressure profile, ionization layer and thermosphere" [2011, A&A, 527, A110]
An error was detected in the code used for the analysis of the HD209458b
sodium profile (Vidal-Madjar et al. 2011). Here we present an updated T-P
