Study of the Distillability of Werner States Using Entanglement Witnesses and Robust Semidefinite Programs
We use Robust Semidefinite Programs and Entanglement Witnesses to study the
distillability of Werner states. We perform exact numerical calculations which
show 2-undistillability in a region of the state space which was previously
conjectured to be undistillable. We also introduce bases which yield
interesting expressions for the {\em distillability witnesses} and for a tensor
product of Werner states with arbitrary number of copies.Comment: 16 pages, 2 figure
Modeling and Simulation of an Oxygen Delignification Industrial Process of Cellulosic Pulp using Kinetic Expressions and the software CADSIM Plus

The Brazilian productive sector of pulp and paper represents a relevant contribution for the development of Brazil. To increase the competitiveness of Brazilian companies to an International level, products must have high standards of quality and high added value. Thus, the mathematical modeling and simulation of industrial processes ensures the stability of production. This study presents the fit of mathematical models for the Oxygen Delignification process of eucalyptus pulp of the industry Klabin Monte Alegre. The mathematical model estimates the kappa number after the reactor, based on two kinetic models given by the literature, one of these models considers oxygen excess in the reaction medium. The models showed a mean relative error of 10 %. The adjustment of the kinetic parameters equations was done in Matlab software, using classical methods of optimization, such as BFGS, DFP, Steepest Descent, Gauss Newton, Simplex and Levenberg Marquardt. The models were incorporated in the commercial simulator CADSIM Plus to provide an optimization tool to the pulp industries. The simulator predicts the kappa number after the Oxygen Delignification reactor. The results of the phenomenological models indicate that possibly there is excess of oxygen in the reaction media. Only the model that considered the presence of the oxygen in the kinetic equation was able to be implemented in the simulator CADSIM Plus, generating consistent results, with an absolute error of ± 2 kappa number. Application: The kinetic model applied to the CADSIM Plus software in this study may be used to optimize the Oxygen Delignification process either by reducing chemical consumptions or by testing different process conditions without changing production.

A Robust Semidefinite Programming Approach to the Separability Problem
We express the optimization of entanglement witnesses for arbitrary bipartite
states in terms of a class of convex optimization problems known as Robust
Semidefinite Programs (RSDP). We propose, using well known properties of RSDP,
several new sufficient tests for the separability of mixed states. Our results
are then generalized to multipartite density operators.Comment: Revised version (minor spell corrections) . 6 pages; submitted to

Exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) cause increase in morbidity and mortality, hospital admissions, influence health-related quality of life and costs to the patient and health system. COPD patient experience 2 to 3 exacerbations per year, specially during winter, causing a progressive physiologic deterioration and increase in the airway inflammation. Treatment is based on bronchodilators, corticosteroids, oxygen therapy, mechanical ventilation and antibiotics
Optimal measurement bases for Bell-tests based on the CH-inequality
The Hardy test of nonlocality can be seen as a particular case of the Bell
tests based on the Clauser-Horne (CH) inequality. Here we stress this
connection when we analyze the relation between the CH-inequality violation,
its threshold detection efficiency, and the measurement settings adopted in the
test. It is well known that the threshold efficiencies decrease when one
considers partially entangled states and that the use of these states,
unfortunately, generates a reduction in the CH violation. Nevertheless, these
quantities are both dependent on the measurement settings considered, and in
this paper we show that there are measurement bases which allow for an optimal
situation in this trade-off relation. These bases are given as a generalization
of the Hardy measurement bases, and they will be relevant for future Bell tests
relying on pairs of entangled qubits.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figure
Quantifying Quantum Correlations in Fermionic Systems using Witness Operators
We present a method to quantify quantum correlations in arbitrary systems of
indistinguishable fermions using witness operators. The method associates the
problem of finding the optimal entan- glement witness of a state with a class
of problems known as semidefinite programs (SDPs), which can be solved
efficiently with arbitrary accuracy. Based on these optimal witnesses, we
introduce a measure of quantum correlations which has an interpretation
analogous to the Generalized Robust- ness of entanglement. We also extend the
notion of quantum discord to the case of indistinguishable fermions, and
propose a geometric quantifier, which is compared to our entanglement measure.
Our numerical results show a remarkable equivalence between the proposed
Generalized Robustness and the Schliemann concurrence, which are equal for pure
states. For mixed states, the Schliemann con- currence presents itself as an
upper bound for the Generalized Robustness. The quantum discord is also found
to be an upper bound for the entanglement.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures, Accepted for publication in Quantum Information
