    Measurement of the Ratio of b Quark Production Cross Sections in Antiproton-Proton Collisions at 630 GeV and 1800 GeV

    Full text link
    We report a measurement of the ratio of the bottom quark production cross section in antiproton-proton collisions at 630 GeV to 1800 GeV using bottom quarks with transverse momenta greater than 10.75 GeV identified through their semileptonic decays and long lifetimes. The measured ratio sigma(630)/sigma(1800) = 0.171 +/- .024 +/- .012 is in good agreement with next-to-leading order (NLO) quantum chromodynamics (QCD)

    Measurement of the gamma gamma* -> eta c transition form factor

    No full text
    We study the reaction e(+)e(-) -> e(+)e(-) eta(c), eta(c) -> K(S)K(+/-)pi(-/+) and obtain eta(c) mass and width values 2982.2 +/- 0.4 +/- 1.6 MeV/c(2) and 31.7 +/- 1.2 +/- 0.8 MeV, respectively. We find Gamma(eta(c) -> gamma gamma)B(eta(c) -> KK pi) = 0.374 +/- 0.009 +/- 0.031 keV, and measure the gamma gamma* -> eta(c) transition form factor in the momentum transfer range from 2 to 50 GeV(2). The analysis is based on 469 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity collected at PEP-II with the BABAR detector at e(+)e(-) center-of-mass energies near 10.6 GeV.     Measurements of CP-Violating Asymmetries in B0→Ks0π0 Decays

    We present a measurement of the time-dependent CP-violating (CPV) asymmetries in B0→KS0π0 decays based on 124×106 Υ(4S)→BB̅ decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at SLAC. In a sample containing 122±16 signal decays, we obtain the magnitudes of the direct CPV asymmetry CKS0π0=0.40-0.28+0.27±0.09 and of the CPV asymmetry in the interference between mixing and decay SKS0π0=0.48-0.47+0.38±0.06 where the first error is statistical and the second systematic

    Expected Performance of the ATLAS Experiment - Detector, Trigger and Physics

    Get PDF
    A detailed study is presented of the expected performance of the ATLAS detector. The reconstruction of tracks, leptons, photons, missing energy and jets is investigated, together with the performance of b-tagging and the trigger. The physics potential for a variety of interesting physics processes, within the Standard Model and beyond, is examined. The study comprises a series of notes based on simulations of the detector and physics processes, with particular emphasis given to the data expected from the first years of operation of the LHC at CERN
