Object Manipulation in Virtual Reality Under Increasing Levels of Translational Gain

Room-scale Virtual Reality (VR) has become an affordable consumer reality, with applications ranging from entertainment to productivity. However, the limited physical space available for room-scale VR in the typical home or office environment poses a significant problem. To solve this, physical spaces can be extended by amplifying the mapping of physical to virtual movement (translational gain). Although amplified movement has been used since the earliest days of VR, little is known about how it influences reach-based interactions with virtual objects, now a standard feature of consumer VR. Consequently, this paper explores the picking and placing of virtual objects in VR for the first time, with translational gains of between 1x (a one-to-one mapping of a 3.5m*3.5m virtual space to the same sized physical space) and 3x (10.5m*10.5m virtual mapped to 3.5m*3.5m physical). Results show that reaching accuracy is maintained for up to 2x gain, however going beyond this diminishes accuracy and increases simulator sickness and perceived workload. We suggest gain levels of 1.5x to 1.75x can be utilized without compromising the usability of a VR task, significantly expanding the bounds of interactive room-scale VR

Етичне лідерство в публічній службі: смисл і значущість феномену

The article is devoted to the analysis of the notion`s meaning of ethical leadership, the disclosure of its manifestations in the professional activities of public officials, the determination of the potential of this phenomenon for strengthening the ethical principles of the public services’ functioning.It has been established that the main theories of leadership usually classify ethical behaviour as an important characteristic of a leader's personality, but, at the same time, they either do not focus on its meaningful status or consider ethical leadership as inherent for certain individual leaders. Therefore, the necessity for a thorough research of ethical leadership at the level of individuals and institutions is noted.The manifestations of ethical leadership as a component of the professional competence of the heads of government bodies and their subordinates have been analysed, the growth of its importance depending on the place an employee occupies in the management hierarchy of a public institution has been emphasized.The importance of strengthening the professional and ethical atmosphere in the public service has been emphasized not only in the form of fixing the norms of acceptable employees` behaviour in ethical codes, but also the existence of a real example of an ethical leader who is also guided by higher values and encourages colleagues to positive behaviour and personal growth. Attention is drawn to the scientific potential of the interaction idea between servants` leadership skills and their ability to solve ethical problems in the workplace, as well as the promotion of ethics in the organizational culture of public service.The research made it possible to formulate the author's definition of ethical leadership in public service as a meaning-forming, complex phenomenon, which provides for the leader's possession of the necessary moral qualities and ethical characteristics that manifest themselves in relationships, actions and behaviour, as well as ethical management of a public institution.Статья посвящена анализу понятия этического лидерства, раскрытию его проявлений в профессиональной деятельности публичных служащих, обрисовке потенциала данного феномена для усиления этических принципов функционирования публичных служб.Выявлено, что современные теории лидерства обычно причисляют этическое поведение в важных признаков личности лидера, однако при этом они либо не акцентируют внимание на ее статусе как такового, что образует смысл, или рассматривают этическое лидерство как присуще отдельным лидерам-лицам. Поэтому отмечена необходимость тщательного исследования этического лидерства на уровне индивидов и уровне институтов.Проанализированы проявления этического лидерства как составляющей профессиональной компетентности руководителей органов власти и их подчиненных, подчеркнуто рост ее значимости в зависимости от служащего в управленческой иерархии публичной учреждения.Подчеркнута важность для укрепления профессионально-нравственной атмосферы на публичной службе не только фиксации норм допустимого поведения служащих в этических кодексах, но и наличие живого примера нравственного лидера, который руководствуется также высшими ценностями и стимулирует коллег к положительной поведенческой модели и личностного роста. Обращается внимание на научный потенциал идеи взаимосвязи между лидерскими навыками управленца и его способностью решать этические проблемы на рабочем месте, а также продвижением этики в организационной культуре публичной службы.Проведенное исследование позволило сформулировать авторское определение этического лидерства в публичной службе как такового, что образует смысл, которое включает в себя владение лидером необходимыми моральными качествами и этическими характеристиками, которые проявляют себя в отношениях, действиях и поведении, а также этическом менеджменте публичной учреждения.Статтю присвячено аналізу поняття етичного лідерства, розкриттю його проявів у професійній діяльності публічних службовців, окресленню потенціалу даного феномену для посилення етичних засад функціонування публічних служб. Виявлено, що сучасні теорії лідерства зазвичай зараховують етичну поведінку до важливих ознак особистості лідера, однак при цьому вони або не акцентують увагу на її статусі як такого, що утворює смисл, або розглядають етичне лідерство як притаманне окремим лідерам-особам. Тому наголошено на необхідності ретельного дослідження етичного лідерства на рівні індивідів та рівні інституцій.Проаналізовано вияви етичного лідерства як складової професійної компетентності керівників органів влади та їхніх підлеглих, підкреслено зростання її значущості в залежності від місця службовця в управлінській ієрархії публічної інституції.Підкреслено важливість для зміцнення професійно-етичної атмосфери на публічній службі не лише фіксації норм допустимої поведінки службовців у етичних кодексах, але й наявність живого прикладу етичного лідера, який керується також вищими цінностями і стимулює колег до позитивної поведінкової моделі та особистісного зростання. Звертається увага на науковий потенціал ідеї взаємозв’язку між лідерськими навичками управлінця та його спроможністю вирішувати етичні проблеми на робочому місці, а також просуванням етики в організаційній культурі публічної служби.Проведене дослідження дозволило сформулювати авторське визначення етичного лідерства в публічній службі як такого, що утворює сенс, яке включає в себе володіння лідером необхідними моральними якостями та етичними характеристиками, котрі проявляють себе в стосунках, діях і поведінці, а також етичному менеджменті публічної інституції

Analysis of Unsatisfactory Consequences of Erysipelas Treatment

Goal.  Find out the cause of unsatisfactory treatment outcomes in patients with destructive forms of erysipelas in the general population. Materials and methods. Retrospectively and prospectively analyzed 284 case histories of patients who were hospitalized in the center of purulent - septic surgery KNP "City Hospital G3" Zaporozhye for the period 2016-2022. Results. It was found that most often the local focus was localized on the upper and lower extremities. The most common clinical manifestations of intoxication in bullous and phlegmonous forms of erysipelas were: general weakness, hyperthermia, muscle pain. In the necrotic form of erysipelas, patients showed signs of severe intoxication with nausea, vomiting and confusion. In the complex treatment of patients with erysipelas, the main place belongs to the early surgical treatment of the area of ​​the pathological process and antibiotic therapy (ABT). Determination of serum procalcitonin allows to assess the progression and generalization of the process and is a sensitive test for the effectiveness of treatment. Conclusions. Radical surgery and timely targeted ABT are key elements of success in the treatment of surgical forms of erysipelas and are not subject to revision. The main causes of unsatisfactory consequences in patients with erysipelas are: aggravation of the disease at the time of hospitalization by septic shock and multiple organ failure, severe decompensated comorbidities. Procalcitonin is a diagnostic marker that can predict the development of sepsis. Key words: erysipelas, unsatisfactory treatment consequences, procalcitonin

Профессиональная этика в поддержке ценностей морали

У статті здійснено пошук потенціалу професійної етики для підтримки моралі на сучасному етапі розвитку суспільства. Виявлено як небезпеки самоізоляції, які несе в собі професійна етика, так і її потенціал у процесі солідаризації професіоналів, відродження громадських цінностей, підтримки та розвитку моралі.The article searches for potential professional ethics to maintain morality in modern society. It is alleged that professional ethics is able to be some basis for solidarity of professionals, island for revival of values, support and development of morality. Value morality and professional ethics is considered as an urgent problem of the modern ethical discourse. It turns out that professional ethics as a relatively independent moral subsystem contains the danger of isolation, and can become a source of centrifugal tendencies in the moral life and can specify sharpening contradictions of social life. Claims of profession autonomy can be justified only within formation of increased demand for professionals who exceed the minimum moral standards, and rigorous self-control of the professional group. However, in this situation public control can protect against the dangers of professional isolation. In situations where professional and ethical requirements are contrary to moral precepts, preference should be given to the moral values and guidelines, as they more finely define the essence of social changes, including the changes that occur in the professional field. It turns out that professional ethics has strong potential to support the values of morals. The requirements of professional ethics and directing plays a regulatory role in the lives of professionals and focuses on awareness of footwear verge of calling in a certain way forms the attitude of man to his own life, the idea of success and happiness, justice and so on. In professional ethics quite powerful are the means of maintaining professional values, which has not a sufficient morality, as the professional ethics, and partly, professional ethics is an institutionalized form of social regulation. Pretty strong base ground for renovation of morality can also be cultivated in professional ethics within the attitude to work as an absolute value. Restoring respect for labour is capable of catalysing interest in civic values. Professional ethics is a kind of «bridge» between moral requirements and professional responsibilities — a compromise that allows solving the «conflict of interest» between them. Complete professional self-realization determines professional dignity, which has significant potential for moral self-regulation of behaviour not only in the field of profession, but also it is an essential component of human dignity. The basis of personal moral status to professional careers is professional liability, which includes professional mission concentrated around values, moral and professional ethical principles and norms, attitudes and behaviour. The belief in moral maturity of the professionals which creates opportunities for his/her full professional realization can be a personal motivator in professional and ethical self-regulation. The conclusion is made that the professional and ethical issues can stimulate «disconnection» with narrow professional vision and search for broader ethical bases of social life in general, and on the other hand — the values and principles, supported by professional ethics, can become the backbone of morality in modern society.В статье осуществляется поиск потенциала профессиональной этики для поддержки морали на современном этапе развития общества.
