Towards the second order adaptation in the next generation remote patient management systems
Remote Patient Management (RPM) systems are expected to be increasingly important for chronic disease management as they facilitate monitoring vital signs of patients at their home, alerting the care givers in case of worsening. They also provide patients with educational content. RPM systems collect a lot of (different types of) data about patients, providing an opportunity for personalizing information services. In our recent work we highlighted the importance of using available information for personalization and presented a possible next generation RPM system that enables personalization of educational content and its delivery to patients. We introduced a generic methodology for personalization and emphasized the role of knowledge discovery (KDD). In this paper we focus on the necessity of the second-order adaptation mechanisms in the RPM systems to address the challenge of continuous on-line (re)learning of actionable patterns from the patient data
Heart failure hospitalization prediction in remote patient management systems
Healthcare systems are shifting from patient care in hospitals to monitored care at home. It is expected to improve the quality of care without exploding the costs. Remote patient management (RPM) systems offer a great potential in monitoring patients with chronic diseases, like heart failure or diabetes. Patient modeling in RPM systems opens opportunities in two broad directions: personalizing information services, and alerting medical personnel about the changing conditions of a patient. In this study we focus on heart failure hospitalization (HFH) prediction, which is a particular problem of patient modeling for alerting. We formulate a short term HFH prediction problem and show how to address it with a data mining approach. We emphasize challenges related to the heterogeneity, different types and periodicity of the data available in RPM systems. We present an experimental study on HFH prediction using, which results lay a foundation for further studies and implementation of alerting and personalization services in RPM systems

Π‘ΠΎΠ»ΠΆΠ΅Π½ΠΈΡΡΠ½ΡΠΌ.This article considers the participation of Vladimir Varshavsky, an Γ©migrΓ© writer, in the discussion around Aleksandr Solzhenitsynβs famous journalistic manifestos, i.e. Letters to the Soviet Leaders and From under the Rubble collection published in 1974 by Paris publishing house YMCA-Press. The article focuses on the considerable influence the ideology of the Novy Grad journal had on Varshavskyβs perception of Solzhenitsynβs journalistic works. The discourse of Novy Grad helped Varshavsky occupy an independent position regarding the long-lasting harsh debate between Andrey Sakharov and Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn which took place in the 1970s. Varshavsky considered many of the issues of the argument through the prism of the Novy Grad method, i.e. deep synthesis (or convergence), and his participation in the discussion is interesting from the point of view of his attempt to uncover the origins of the antinomy and go beyond it. Varshavsky saw the reasons for the conflict in the traditional watershed of the Russian national idea, i.e. Westernism and Slavophilism. The prerevolutionary collection Vekhi (1909) played a special role of a link between the ideas of Solzhenitsyn and later works of Varshavsky which were succeeded by many Γ©migrΓ© authors of the Novy Grad journal and participants of From under the Rubble in the Soviet Union. This deep influence of the Vekhi tradition of self-reflection of the Russian intelligentsia played a considerable role in the approximation of Varshavskyβs views on the development of Bolshevism and Aleksandr Solzhenitsynβs standpoint. Varshavskyβs last book The Genealogy of Bolshevism (1982) is characterised by a complex genesis combining his fundamental prewar experience at Novy Grad and response to the topical argument about the future of Russia between Sakharov and Solzhenitsyn

The results of the theoretical-methodological seminar of scientific school of professor, doctor of philology E. P. Ivanyan (Samara) are presented. It is reported that the seminar discussed the topical issue of semantics and pragmatics of language units in modern Russian discourse, the main trends of language development and problems of their study in various research paradigms. The contents of the scientific papers presented during the seminar is highlighted. The main results of the research of the authors of the reports are given
Lexical-Semantic Explication of Concept DEATH in Yakut language
Πhe results of the lexical-semantic explication of a universal concept of DEATH in the Yakut language picture of the world are presented. The relevance of the work is determined by the fact that the study of concepts, occupying a significant place in the Yakut linguistic culture, is not currently completed. It is also noted that linguists have always shown interest in the content of the concept of DEATH and peculiarities of its lexical representation by means of different languages, because it belongs to the universal concepts. Euphemization in of death designation is emphasized. The material of the research were sustainable verbal complexes of the Yakut language, signifying death. Prepared by the authors the literal translations of collocations are presented. For example, the expressions are given which literally can be translated as follows: βto disappear from white sun world,β βto go into the pit,β βto go out on the hillside,β βsoul became coldβ etc. The analysis involve phraseology with other meanings: βto deprive of life, kill,β βto go on a deadly riskβ etc. They confirm and clarify the metaphors identified in the primary material. Vocabulary is analysed with respect to ethnographic background information about the traditions of the Yakut graves, about the attitude to suicide and others. Following models of ideas about death are revealed on the Yakut material: βdeath is a transmigration to another world,β βdeath is the end,β βdeath is darkness,β βdeath is sleepβ etc
Legitimation of University in Modern Culture
The authors propose to consider university as a significant cultural topos. The significance of the topos is provided by the narrative integrated in it. It reflects the values and inscribes the university into the current cultural situation. The authors give several historical examples to support their thesis that this narrative is a response to external cultural challenges. The current situation is rife with such challenges, and therefore, the creation of a legitimizing narrative for the university turns out to be quite problematic. The authors study the influence of such factors as massification of education, media communication, social, demographic changes, etc. Examples of modern Russian and foreign universities demonstrate self-legitimization process of the university and show its visual part. The universities represent their own position, history and current values by creating their own visual code. The authors adduce as examples modern universitiesβ websites with the visual images that are presented on their title pages. Based on this material, the authors draw a conclusion about the main modern strategies of self-legitimation of the university as positioning on the scales: tradition and innovation, loyalty to the government and independence from it, history and community
State of water in confinement near hydrophilic surfaces below the freezing temperature
The main goal of the research is to find a relationship between the dynamic and the structural properties of water in hydrated heterogeneous systems. The results of dielectric spectroscopy studies of hydrated matrixes of porous glasses, clays and hydrated powder of Lysozyme are presented in wide frequency and temperature intervals. It is shown that for all systems studied the low temperature relaxation process demonstrates Arrhenius kinetics and exhibits a Cole-Cole (CC) behavior. A new phenomenological approach has been recently presented (see Puzenko A, Ben Ishai P, Feldman Yu, Phys Rev Lett 105:037601, 2010) that clarifies the physical mechanism of the dipole-matrix interaction in complex systems (CS) underlying the CC behaviour. A comparison porous glass with clays helps one to understand the specific adsorbed water dynamics due to the variety in the distribution of hydration centers. GR 290 (Romano's Star): 2. Light history and evolutionary state
We have built the historical light curve of the luminous variable GR 290 back
to 1901, from old observations of the star found in several archival plates of
M 33. These old recordings together with published and new data show that for
at least half a century the star was in a low luminosity state, with B ~18.
After 1960, five large variability cycles of visual luminosity were recorded.
The amplitude of the oscillations was seen increasing towards the 1992-1994
maximum, then decreasing during the last maxima. The recent light curve
indicates that the photometric variations have been quite similar in all the
bands, and that the B-V color index has been constant within +/-0.1 m despite
the 1.5m change of the visual luminosity. The spectrum of GR 290 at the large
maximum of 1992-94, was equivalent to late-B type, while, during 2002-2014, it
has varied between WN10h-11h near the visual maxima to WN8h-9h at the
luminosity minima. We have detected, during this same period, a clear
anti-correlation between the visual luminosity, the strength of the HeII 4686 A
emission line, the strength of the 4600-4700 A lines blend and the spectral
type. From a model analysis of the spectra collected during the whole 2002-2014
period we find that the Rosseland radius R_{2/3}, changed between the minimum
and maximum luminosity phases by a factor of 3, while T_eff varied between
about 33,000 K and 23,000 K. The bolometric luminosity of the star was not
constant, but increased by a factor of ~1.5 between minimum and maximum
luminosity, in phase with the apparent luminosity variations. In the light of
current evolutionary models of very massive stars, we find that GR 290 has
evolved from a ~60 M_Sun progenitor star and should have an age of about 4
million years. We argue that it has left the LBV stage and is moving to a
Wolf-Rayet stage of late nitrogen spectral type.Comment: Accepted on The Astronomical Journal, 10 figures. Replaced because
