The technology improvement and development of the new design-engineering principles of pilot bore directional drilling

    Get PDF
This paper addresses the effectiveness of impact energy use in pilot bore directional drilling at pipe driving. We establish and develop new design-engineering principles for this method. These principles are based on a drill string construction with a new nipple thread connection and a generator construction of strain waves transferred through the drill string. The experiment was conducted on a test bench. Strain measurement is used to estimate compression, tensile, shear and bending stresses in the drill string during the propagation of elastic waves. Finally, the main directions of pilot bore directional drilling improvement during pipe driving are determinated. The new engineering design, as components of the pilot bore directional drilling technology are presented

A data-driven approach to green investments: environmental performance, mispricing, and momentum

    Get PDF
This study aims to investigate the relationship between environmental performance of companies and their stock market performance. It has substantially contributed to the crucial endeavour of estimating the implications of environmental performance, momentum, and mispricing on a vast array of subsamples, portfolio construction techniques, and asset pricing models, decidedly demonstrating their importance and carving a place for environmental long-minus short portfolios in the established β€œzoo of factors”. Through the analysis of the data related to the greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, and waste intensity from 6,391 companies, two sets of systematic risks factors were found represented by environmental performance and momentum; the outperformance of greener stocks observed in most of the samples was confirmed; the explanatory power of the environmental variables was determined, while the existence of environmental predictive power was denied. Established outcomes are contrasting with most of the literature observed in the SRI field, providing a detailed description on evidence occurring in multiple regional-, country-, status-, and sector- wise samples. The study has substantial implications for corporate social responsibility, empirical finance, asset pricing, and green finance literature as well as for individual and institutional investors and policymakers

Development of small diameter pilot hole directional drilling for trenchless utility installation

    Get PDF
The paper overviews trenchless utility installation techniques and prospects of further development of horizontal directional drilling technology to drill small diameter pilot holes. The improved design is suggested for the thread connection of drill pipes and hydraulic system to generate power pulses

Drill pipe threaded nipple connection design development

    Get PDF
The paper presents the analysis of the behavior of the drill pipe nipple connection under the additional load generated by power pulses. The strain wave propagation through the nipple thread connection of drill pipes to the bottomhole is studied in this paper. The improved design of the nipple thread connection is suggested using the obtained experimental and theoretical data. The suggested connection design allows not only the efficient transmission of strain wave energy to a drill bit but also the automation of making-up and breaking-out drill pipes

Dynamics of bubble rising at small Reynolds numbers

    Get PDF
Results of experimental study of a single spherical bubble rising in the non-stationary regime in a viscous liquid (with and without surfactant) at small Reynolds numbers Re<1 have been presented. Improved empirical correlations for drag coefficient of the bubble rising with and without surfactant in the stationary regime have been obtained. Influence of nonstationary effects on the dynamics of bubble rising has been analyzed

Seasonality in the Cross-Section of Cryptocurrency Returns

    Get PDF
This study presents the first attempt to examine the cross-sectional seasonality anomaly in cryptocurrency markets. To this end, we apply sorts and cross-sectional regressions to investigate daily returns on 151 cryptocurrencies for the years 2016 to 2019. We find a significant seasonal pattern: average past same-weekday returns positively predict future performance in the cross-section. Cryptocurrencies with high same-day returns in the past outperform cryptocurrencies with a low same-day return. This effect is not subsumed by other established return predictors such as momentum, size, beta, idiosyncratic risk, or liquidity

Unsteady rise of a bubble in a viscous fluid at small Reynolds numbers

    Get PDF
A bubble rising from the state of rest in a viscous incompressible fluid is considered. A formula for the Basset force acting on the bubble in a viscous fluid is obtained, which differs by a multiplier from the Basset force for a solid particle. The problem of unsteady rise of a bubble is solved analytically. The bubble rise is also studied experimentally and the experimental data are compared with the theoretical results

Ultimate permissible additional hogging of a brick wall during the reconstruction of a historical building

    Get PDF
The paper analyzes the possible development of an approach limiting additional deformations of the base of a building during reconstruction. We consider the ultimate permissible value of additional relative hogging in a brickwork wall without reinforcement (f/L)ad,u, which is important for the solution of tasks on the reconstruction of historical buildings. The ultimate values of tensile deformations in a wall can serve as a safety criterion for uneven building settlements. The use of this criterion makes it possible to set more precise values (f/L)ad,u for a brick wall as compared with the values used in Construction Regulations SP 22.13330

Evolution of coherent waves driving a single artificial atom

An electromagnetic wave propagating through a waveguide with a strongly coupled superconducting artificial two-level atom exhibits an evolving superposition with the atom. The Rabi oscillations in the atom result from a single excitation-relaxation, corresponding to photon absorption and stimulated emission from/to the field. In this study, we investigate the time-dependent behavior of the transmitted field and extract its spectra. The scattered fields are described using input-output theory. We demonstrate that the time evolution of the propagating fields, due to interaction, encapsulates all information about the atom. Additionally, we deduce the dynamics of the incoherent radiation component from the measured first-order correlation function of the field.Comment: Main text: 6 pages, 4 figures; Supplemental Material: 4 pages, 1 figure; updated commen
