Three-axis platform simulation: Bond graph and Lagrangian approach

    Get PDF
A bond graph model is derived for the geometric constraints of a three-axis flight table. Gimbal dynamics are easily added even in asymmetrical and unbalanced cases. A method is introduced to make the local dependent inertias computable. The bond graph compares favourably to the Lagrangian approach as to modelling effort and accessibility of intermediate variables as well as having computational advantages

Simulation of mixed bond graphs and block diagrams on personal computers using TUTSIM

    Get PDF
The TUTSIM simulation program for continuous dynamic systems accepts (nonlinear) block diagrams, bond graphs or a free mix of both. The simulation is “hands on” interactive, providing a direct contact with the model. The implementation of the program on existing personal computers (Apple II, IBM PC) requires small memory size and has a high computational speed, due to its assembler source code. A slower FORTRAN CP/M version is available. It is shown how bond graphs can be used as an input language. An example using bond graphs as a modelling tool is presented

Predictability of psychic outcome for exercise training and exercise training including relaxation therapy after myocardial infarction

    Get PDF
Abstract Predictability of the psychic outcome for two cardiac rehabilitation programmes was investigated in 119 myocardial infarction patients. They were randomly assigned to either a five-week daily exercise training or to an identical training in combination with six sessions of relaxation therapy, individually. The psychic outcome was constructed as a composite measure of change on six psychological questionnaires. The aim was to determine the predictive qualities of base-line: (1) clinical data; (2) exercise testing; (3) psychosocial information derived from interview; and (4) validated psychological questionnaires and whether the kind of rehabilitation programme has any influence on the predictive qualities of the variables. The psychic outcome turned out to be highly predictable (multiple correlation of 0.72). Predictors of relatively high importance were age, work-status and job-level, followed by mild heart failure, diastolic blood pressure and heart rate, all of them dependent upon the kind of treatment. It implies that the type of rehabilitation programme modified the effect of the determinants of psychic outcome. This research strategy is promisi

Literary cultures and public opinion in the Low Countries, 1450-1650

    Get PDF
In the early modern Low Countries, literary culture functioned on several levels simultaneously: it provided learning, pleasure, and entertainment while also shaping public debate. From a ditty in Dutch sung in the streets to a funeral poem in Latin composed to be read for or by intimate friends, from a play performed for a prince to a comedy written for pupils – literary texts and performances often dealt with highly controversial topics of religion or politics, on a local or national, but also on a supranational scale. This volume sets out to analyse the role and function of literary culture in the formation of early modern public opinion, and proposes ways in which a modern scholar might approach early modern works of literature and other traces of literary culture to explore early modern public opinion making. The cases presented in this volume bring the Dutch and Latin literary cultures of the Low Countries in the focus of international debates on the history of public opinion

Relaxation therapy in cardiac rehabilitation : a randomized controlled clinical trial of breathing awareness as a relaxation method in the rehabilitation after myocardial infarction

    Get PDF
Cardiac rehabilitation is often a necessary supplement to medica! treatment of patients with acute ischaemie heart disease. Rehabilitation is directed to the functional recovery of the patient, physically as well as socially and mentally. Exercise training is at present the most common component of cardiac rehabilitation. However, most investigators have failed to show that exercise in itself would imprave the patient's functional state satisfactorily. Therefore, there is a need to reconsider rehabilitation policy (1). Various authors are in favour of a multidisciplinary or comprehensive approach (2), which enables a differentiation of treatment programmes, tailoring rehabilitation to the needs of the individual patient. We agree with this approach. Rehabilitation is more than exercise training only (3). The question is, what other treatments are there that are feasible and effective. The purpose of this study is to investigate the incremental value of individual relaxation therap
