Supermassive black holes do not correlate with dark matter halos of galaxies
Supermassive black holes have been detected in all galaxies that contain
bulge components when the galaxies observed were close enough so that the
searches were feasible. Together with the observation that bigger black holes
live in bigger bulges, this has led to the belief that black hole growth and
bulge formation regulate each other. That is, black holes and bulges
"coevolve". Therefore, reports of a similar correlation between black holes and
the dark matter halos in which visible galaxies are embedded have profound
implications. Dark matter is likely to be nonbaryonic, so these reports suggest
that unknown, exotic physics controls black hole growth. Here we show - based
in part on recent measurements of bulgeless galaxies - that there is almost no
correlation between dark matter and parameters that measure black holes unless
the galaxy also contains a bulge. We conclude that black holes do not correlate
directly with dark matter. They do not correlate with galaxy disks, either.
Therefore black holes coevolve only with bulges. This simplifies the puzzle of
their coevolution by focusing attention on purely baryonic processes in the

"Cultural additivity" and how the values and norms of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism co-exist, interact, and influence Vietnamese society: A Bayesian analysis of long-standing folktales, using R and Stan
Every year, the Vietnamese people reportedly burned about 50,000 tons of joss
papers, which took the form of not only bank notes, but iPhones, cars, clothes,
even housekeepers, in hope of pleasing the dead. The practice was mistakenly
attributed to traditional Buddhist teachings but originated in fact from China,
which most Vietnamese were not aware of. In other aspects of life, there were
many similar examples of Vietnamese so ready and comfortable with adding new
norms, values, and beliefs, even contradictory ones, to their culture. This
phenomenon, dubbed "cultural additivity", prompted us to study the
co-existence, interaction, and influences among core values and norms of the
Three Teachings--Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism--as shown through
Vietnamese folktales. By applying Bayesian logistic regression, we evaluated
the possibility of whether the key message of a story was dominated by a
religion (dependent variables), as affected by the appearance of values and
anti-values pertaining to the Three Teachings in the story (independent

The Comparison of Characteristics in Tin Doped Indium Oxide (ITO) Synthesized via Nonaqueous Sol-Gel and Solvothermal Process
Tin doped indium oxide nanoparticles were synthesized by nonaqueous sol-gel method and solvothermal process from indium acetylacetonate (In(acac)3) and tin bis(acetylacetonate)dichloride (Sn(acac)2Cl2) in oleyamine as the starting materials. The structure and morphology of ITO samples were analyzed by XRD and TEM. The electrical conductivy and specific surface area of both ITO samples were also determined and compared to each other. The ITO prepared via solvothermal method showed better results that prepared by nonaqueous sol-gel method
QUANTITATIVE DETERMINATION AND PREPARATIVE ISOLATION OF TWO MAJOR ALKALOIDS FROM THE VIETNAMESE MEDICINAL HERB EVODIAE FRUCTUS
Objective: To develop a simple and accurate HPLC-DAD method for simultaneous determination, the content of major components: limonin, evodiamine, and rutaecarpine in Evodiae fructus and evaluation the quality of Evodiae fructus sold in markets.
Methods: Open column chromatography was used to separate and purify rutaecarpine and evodiamine, the two major alkaloids from Evodiae fructus extract as a laboratory standard. Chromatographic separation was achieved using a Germini C18 column (150 mm à 4.6 mm I.D., 5 ”m), detected at 210 nm. The mobile phase consisted of acetonitrile (A), methanol (B), and water (C). The validated method simultaneously determined alkaloid content in 40 batches of samples collected from markets in different regions of Vietnam.
Results: In one-step purification, our method yielded 326 mg of rutaecarpine and 128 mg of evodiamine from 3.2 g of crude extract, with purities of 98.9 and 98.5%, respectively. The structures of these compounds were identified using 1H NMR and 13C NMR. There was a significant correlation between alkaloid content and fruit size, with a Spearman correlation coefficient of>0.5 (p<0.001), and there was a large difference in alkaloid contents between three maturity degrees of the fruit. Open-mouth fruits and fruits with average sizes of 4 to 6 mm had the highest alkaloid contents, whereas closed-mouth fruits had the lowest.
Conclusion: This study provided information on the standardization and quality control of evodiamine and rutaecarpine in Evodiae fructus, as well as a foundation for further pharmacological and toxicological studies
A nonlinear fractional RayleighâStokes equation under nonlocal integral conditions
In this paper, we study the fractional nonlinear RayleighâStokes equation under nonlocal integral conditions, and the existence and uniqueness of the mild solution to our problem are considered. The ill-posedness of the mild solution to the problem recovering the initial value is also investigated. Branes from a non-Abelian (2,0) tensor multiplet with 3-algebra
In this paper, we study the equations of motion for non-Abelian N=(2,0)
tensor multiplets in six dimensions, which were recently proposed by Lambert
and Papageorgakis. Some equations are regarded as constraint equations. We
employ a loop extension of the Lorentzian three-algebra (3-algebra) and examine
the equations of motion around various solutions of the constraint equations.
The resultant equations take forms that allow Lagrangian descriptions. We find
various (5+d)-dimensional Lagrangians and investigate the relation between them

Origin of intermittent accretion-powered X-ray oscillations in neutron stars with millisecond spin periods
We have shown previously that many of the properties of persistent
accretion-powered millisecond pulsars can be understood if their X-ray emitting
areas are near their spin axes and move as the accretion rate and structure of
the inner disk vary. Here we show that this "nearly aligned moving spot model"
may also explain the intermittent accretion-powered pulsations that have been
detected in three weakly magnetic accreting neutron stars. We show that
movement of the emitting area from very close to the spin axis to about 10
degrees away can increase the fractional rms amplitude from less than about 0.5
percent, which is usually undetectable with current instruments, to a few
percent, which is easily detectable. The second harmonic of the spin frequency
usually would not be detected, in agreement with observations. The model
produces intermittently detectable oscillations for a range of emitting area
sizes and beaming patterns, stellar masses and radii, and viewing directions.
Intermittent oscillations are more likely in stars that are more compact. In
addition to explaining the sudden appearance of accretion-powered millisecond
oscillations in some neutron stars with millisecond spin periods, the model
explains why accretion-powered millisecond oscillations are relatively rare and
predicts that the persistent accretion-powered millisecond oscillations of
other stars may become undetectable for brief intervals. It suggests why
millisecond oscillations are frequently detected during the X-ray bursts of
some neutron stars but not others and suggests mechanisms that could explain
the occasional temporal association of intermittent accretion-powered

Energetic radiation and the sulfur chemistry of protostellar envelopes: Submillimeter interferometry of AFGL 2591
CONTEXT: The chemistry in the inner few thousand AU of accreting envelopes
around young stellar objects is predicted to vary greatly with far-UV and X-ray
irradiation by the central star. Aim We search for molecular tracers of
high-energy irradiation by the protostar in the hot inner envelope. METHODS:
The Submillimeter Array (SMA) has observed the high-mass star forming region
AFGL 2591 in lines of CS, SO, HCN, HCN(v2=1), and HC15N with 0.6" resolution at
350 GHz probing radial scales of 600-3500 AU for an assumed distance of 1 kpc.
The SMA observations are compared with the predictions of a chemical model
fitted to previous single-dish observations. RESULTS: The CS and SO main peaks
are extended in space at the FWHM level, as predicted in the model assuming
protostellar X-rays. However, the main peak sizes are found smaller than
modeled by nearly a factor of 2. On the other hand, the lines of CS, HCN, and
HC15N, but not SO and HCN(v2=1), show pedestal emissions at radii of about 3500
AU that are not predicted. All lines except SO show a secondary peak within the
approaching outflow cone. A dip or null in the visibilities caused by a sharp
decrease in abundance with increasing radius is not observed in CS and only
tentatively in SO. CONCLUSIONS: The emission of protostellar X-rays is
supported by the good fit of the modeled SO and CS amplitude visibilities
including an extended main peak in CS. The broad pedestals can be interpreted
by far-UV irradiation in a spherically non-symmetric geometry, possibly
comprising outflow walls on scales of 3500 -- 7000 AU. The extended CS and SO
main peaks suggest sulfur evaporation near the 100 K temperature radius.Comment: Astronomy and Astrophysics, in pres
Insulator-Superfluid transition of spin-1 bosons in an optical lattice in magnetic field
We study the insulator-superfluid transition of spin-1 bosons in an optical
lattice in a uniform magnetic field. Based on a mean-field approximation we
obtained a zero-temperature phase diagram. We found that depending on the
particle number the transition for bosons with antiferromagnetic interaction
may occur into different superfluid phases with spins aligned along or opposite
to the field direction. This is qualitatively different from the field-free
transition for which the mean-field theory predicts a unique (polar) superfluid
