    Empirical analysis of the constituent factors of internal marketing orientation at spanish hotels

    This study, which draws upon specialized literature and empirical evidence, aims to characterize the underlying structure of the construct ‘Internal Marketing Orientation’ (IMO). As a consequence six underlying factors are identified: exchange of values, segmentation of the internal market, internal communication, management concern, implementation of management concern and training. It also evaluates the degree of Spanish hotels’ IMO, classifying them into three different groups according to their level of IMO. Findings indicate that a higher degree of IMO is found when the company belongs to a hotel chain, while no other variables such as hotel size or category have proven to be significant

    This research shows an analysis of the presence of Corporate volunteering programs in family firms of Andalucía (Spain) and its impact on employees. Corporate Volunteerism has been analyzed from social dimension of CSR and how other factors, like management concern and work family balance have impact over job satisfaction and employee´s commitment. After theoretical review, Coorporate Volunteerism in Andalusian family enterprises have been measured regarding employees, customers and also the intention of broader implementation in the future. It concludes by stressing the fact that companies that implement corporate volunteerism might help to increase levels of job satisfaction and employee’s commitment

    This study analyses some of the factors comprising Internal Market Orientation (IMO) in family businesses in Andalusia (Spain): Management Concern, Training and Work-Family-Balance. Corporate Volunteering (CV) has been incorporated for the first time in IMO. A statistical analysis shows that CV can be inserted within the dimension of response to internal market intelligence and, its incorporation is proposed for future IMO models as a part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The impact of some factors on Job Satisfaction has also been considered. The two most influential factors on Job Satisfaction are CV and Work-Family-Balance

    Who relies on mobile payment systems when they are on vacation? A segmentation analysis

    Despite the growth of mobile phone use in travel planning, the number of tourists that adopt mobile payments (m-payments) is not high. As tourist trust in m-payment has been identified as an essential factor in m-transaction behaviour, this study contributes with a segmentation and a characterization of tourists based on their trust in m-payments. An online survey of Spanish tourists who use smartphones for travel purposes was conducted to collect the data. Utilizing cluster analysis, the data indicate that heterogeneity exists and that tourists can be classified into three segments depending on their trust in m-payments: tourists with high trust in m-payments, tourists with medium trust in m-payments and tourists with low trust in m-payments. Moreover, in terms of the characterization of these three segments, Pearson´s Chi-square found that they show different demographic characteristics. While tourists who travel for pleasure three or more times per year, men, tourists aged between 25 and 34 and the self-employed are overrepresented in users with high trust in m-payments, tourists who travel for pleasure once a year, women and users older than 45 years of age are overrepresented in users with low trust in m-payments. The segments identified will allow tourism companies to adapt their m-payment strategies

    Models of α-synuclein aggregation in Parkinson’s disease

    Parkinson’s disease (PD) is not only characterized by motor disturbances but also, by cognitive, sensory, psychiatric and autonomic dysfunction. It has been proposed that some of these symptoms might be related to the widespread pathology of α-synuclein (α-syn) aggregation in different nuclei of the central and peripheral nervous system. However, the pathogenic formation of α-syn aggregates in different brain areas of PD patients is poorly understood. Most experimental models of PD are valuable to assess specific aspects of its pathogenesis, such as toxin-induced dopaminergic neurodegeneration. However, new models are required that reflect the widespread and progressive formation of α-syn aggregates in different brain areas. Such α-syn aggregation is induced in only a few animal models, for example perikaryon inclusions are found in rats administered rotenone, aggregates with a neuritic morphology develop in mice overexpressing either mutated or wild-type α-syn, and in Smad3 deficient mice, aggregates form extensively in the perikaryon and neurites of specific brain nuclei. In this review we focus on α-syn aggregation in the human disorder, its genetics and the availability of experimental models. Indeed, evidences show that dopamine (DA) metabolism may be related to α-syn and its conformational plasticity, suggesting an interesting link between the two pathological hallmarks of PD: dopaminergic neurodegeneration and Lewy body (LB) formation

    Financial sustainability and earnings management in the Spanish Sports Federations: A multi-theoretical approach

    The objective of this study is to analyze, from a multi-theoretical framework, whether the managers of the Spanish National Sports Federations (NSFs) apply earnings management using accounting accruals as a measure of managerial discretion; secondly, whether these practices are associated with both the level of dependence on external resources, and the economic and financial control mechanisms exercised by the Superior Sports Council (Consejo Superior de Deportes, CSD) for the granting of public subsidies. The study provides evidence that long-term debt levels and the size of sports federations are determinants of earnings management, with a more accentuated relationship in the case of Olympic and Paralympic sports federations

    Esta investigación analiza el voluntariado corporativo en empresas familiares de Andalucía y su impacto sobre los empleados. Se ha investigado la presencia de programas de voluntariado corporativo junto con otros factores (el interés de la dirección y la conciliación entre vida laboral y familiar) desde la perspectiva de la dimensión de la Responsabilidad Social Corporativa. Tras la revisión teórica, se mide el grado de implantación del voluntariado corporativo en empleados, en clientes y en su intención de desarrollo en el futuro. Queda de manifiesto que las empresas que pongan en marcha acciones de voluntariado corporativo podrían contribuir a incrementar los niveles de satisfacción y de compromiso de los empleados.

    The moderating role of gender on entrepreneurial intentions: a TPB perspective

    Purpose: To disentangle the ways in which social norms shape entrepreneurial intentions of university students and to analyse the moderating effect of gender that may arise. Design/methodology/approach: We have used the entrepreneurial intention model based on Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) literature and moderated by students’ gender affecting this intention. We tested some hypotheses using data from undergraduate business students in Spain and their entrepreneurial intentions. Findings: Our results suggest that perceived behavioural control and attitudes affect the entrepreneurial intentions of university students towards entrepreneurship while subjective norms do not. Furthermore, our findings reveal that the moderating effect of gender has a positive influence for women in the relationship between those subjective norms and the perceived behavioural control. However, as to some research done so far, the moderating role of gender does not seem to have a particular effect on predicting entrepreneurial intentions when moderating TPB dimensions.Practical implications: Given the socio-economic benefits attributed to entrepreneurship, the results allow the design of more effective education initiatives and policies. Originality/value: This research provides support for the application of the TPB, allowing for a better understanding of gender differences in entrepreneurial intentions.Peer Reviewe

    Exploring the impacts of interactions, social presence and emotional engagement on active collaborative learning in a social web-based environment.

    Política de acceso abierto tomada de: https://v2.sherpa.ac.uk/id/publication/27886 (submitted version)This study examines the influence of social presence, interactions (student-student and teacher-student) and emotional engagement on active learning within the context of social web-based collaborative learning (SWBCL). In order to accomplish this objective, an empirical study was conducted with 416 students from two universities, organized into groups of 4 or 5 students, who were instructed to complete a collaborative project over the course of one semester. At the end of the project, the students filled out a questionnaire and the resulting data was analyzed using the partial least squares (PLS) technique. The results suggest that social presence and teacher-student interaction have a positive influence on students’ active learning, both directly and indirectly, through emotional engagement. This variable also mediates the influence of student-student interactions, which have a less significant impact on active learning than the other analyzed variables. Consequently, this study offers important contributions to the study and practice of active learning in a SWBCL environment.The authors would like to thank all the students who participated in this study.
