This research has as an objective to investigate the social representations, based on the knowledge of Physical Therapy students related to Ergonomics, putting in practice an instrument called cognitional map, with the purpose of recognizing the Ergonomics social representation in an Physical Therapy university environment, through associationism, thus, disseminating Ergonomics in the universities both to students and teacher professionals of the health community, stimulating the production of knowledge and scientific projects. The choosing process of these universities for research application, is due to the amount of Physical Therapy professors, where approximately 13 of them, are or were students at the UFSC post graduation program - PPGEP, among master's or doctor's degree in Production Engineering with a line of research in Ergonomics that they teach at those universities. Through bibliographic review, concepts and information on Ergonomics world and national history, and Physical Therapy national history as well were gathered. Nowadays, Ergonomics implies in actuation of professionals of various areas and formations, among them, Physical Therapy. There are large centers of Ergonomics, as in Sao Paulo at USP, and in Florianópolis at UFSC, where is placed the largest concentration of ergonomists at the Post Graduation Program of Production Engineering. Physical Therapy has an important historical-practical-technical-scientifical path, where the dissemination of knowledge exists, however, the production may improve, keeping itself in an emerging platform, its relation with Ergonomics, signals a relevant progress on the preventive process and no more on the healing process. In the associationism of language's social representations, terms such as repetitive, research, production, norms, injuries, rehabilitation, physiologic, organization, orientation have little relevance in the ways of what is known about Ergonomics. Meanwhile, terms such as posture, work, prevention, adaptation, comfort, quality of life and environment are represented with extreme importance in the language of social representation of this population. Demonstrating that the academic student is more directed to the Ergonomics of working, letting go of the comparing of Ergonomics, interested only about the intervention of injuries for repetitive movements, acting in an preventive way in the posture and quality of life of the worker, and no more in the healing process. It's still little comprehensive the mega-context of work and its organizational relations. Affirming that Ergonomics is growing, and that future Physical Therapist teachers have an important role, and the obligation to help academic students on the dissemination and production of knowledge in the Brazilian universities

An investigation of the impact of young children's self-knowledge of trustworthiness on school adjustment: a test of the realistic self-knowledge and positive illusion models

The study aimed to examine the relationship between self-knowledge of trustworthiness and young children’s school adjustment. One hundred and seventy-three (84 male and 89 female) children from school years 1 and 2 in the United Kingdom (mean age 6 years 2 months) were tested twice over one year. Children’s trustworthiness was assessed using: (a) self-report at Time 1 and Time 2, (b) peers’ reports at Time 1 and Time 2, and (c) teacher-reports at Time 2. School adjustment was assessed by child-rated school-liking and the Short-Form Teacher Rating Scale of School Adjustment. Longitudinal quadratic relationships were found between school adjustment and children’s self-knowledge, using peer-reported trustworthiness as a reference: more accurate self-knowledge of trustworthiness predicted increases in school adjustment. Comparable concurrent quadratic relationships were found between teacher-rated school adjustment and children’s self-knowledge, using teacher-reported trustworthiness as a reference, at Time 2. The findings support the conclusion that young children’s psychosocial adjustment is best accounted for by the realistic self-knowledge model (Colvin & Block, 1994)

Project (M.S.W.)--Humboldt State University, Social Work, 2015Native Americans suffer from mental health and Alcohol and Other Drug issues at high rates, yet low rates of service utilization are reported. This study aims at uncovering the barriers associated with receiving formal services for MH and/or AOD in Native communities. A convenience sample of 60 participants (N=60) was drawn from two dif-ferent locations and interviews were conducted guided by a series of 12 questions intend-ing to uncover barriers to service utilization. A grounded theory approach was used to collect and analyze data. Three main themes that emerged from the data were the follow-ing: a) Mental health services are often associated with severe mental illness; b) assessing mental health services are often associated with fear, including stigma; and c) most Na-tives prefer a Native counselor. Implications are discussed and recommendations are made for more effective mental health service delivery aimed at serving Native American Peoples
