On symplectic semifield spreads of PG(5,q2), q odd

    Get PDF
We prove that there exist exactly three non-equivalent symplectic semifield spreads of PG ( 5 , q2), for q2> 2 .38odd, whose associated semifield has center containing Fq. Equivalently, we classify, up to isotopy, commutative semifields of order q6, for q2> 2 .38odd, with middle nucleus containing q2Fq2and center containing q Fq

Chasing Smart Communities standards: Lesson Learnt from Geothermal Communities Project in Montieri (Italy)

    Get PDF
Abstract European Smart Cities and Communities initiative is asking cities to improve quality of urban life by developing actions aiming at better integrating infrastructures and rationalizing energy use. Lessons learnt from former European demonstration projects represent a valuable expertise on integrated actions aimed at developing innovative measures at urban level. The paper reports and discusses the first results of demonstration activities undertaken in the Italian site of Geothermal Communities project (European Commission, FP7 CONCERTO initiative) where best practices in geothermal energy use, integrated with other renewable energy sources and retrofitting measures, were implemented

On the maximum field of linearity of linear sets

Let VV denote an rr-dimensional Fqn\mathbb{F}_{q^n}-vector space. For an mm-dimensional Fq\mathbb{F}_q-subspace UU of VV assume that dimq(vFqnU)2\dim_q \left(\langle {\bf v}\rangle_{\mathbb{F}_{q^n}} \cap U\right) \geq 2 for each non zero vector vU{\bf v}\in U. If nqn\leq q then we prove the existence of an integer 1<dn1<d \mid n such that the set of one-dimensional Fqn\mathbb{F}_{q^n}-subspaces generated by non-zero vectors of UU is the same as the set of one-dimensional Fqn\mathbb{F}_{q^n}-subspaces generated by non-zero vectors of UFqd\langle U\rangle_{\mathbb{F}_{q^d}}. If we view UU as a point set of AG(r,qn)\mathrm{AG}(r,q^n), it means that UU and UFqd\langle U \rangle_{\mathbb{F}_{q^d}} determine the same set of directions. We prove a stronger statement when nmn \mid m. In terms of linear sets it means that an Fq\mathbb{F}_q-linear set of PG(r1,qn)\mathrm{PG}(r-1,q^n) has maximum field of linearity Fq\mathbb{F}_q only if it has a point of weight one. We also present some consequences regarding the size of a linear set

Introduction. Perspectives on Nancy Fraser’s Thought: Philosophy, Feminism, Capitalism, and the Climate Crisis

Nancy Fraser is one of the most important intellectuals of our time. Philosopher, critical theorist of society, feminist theorist and activist: with her influential work from the 1980s until today Fraser has offered significant contributions in the fields of social and political theory, feminist theory, contemporary philosophy, and lately in the debates around the relation between climate change and capitalism. On the occasion of Fraser’s 75th birthday in 2022, and on that of the 10th and 20th anniversaries of the publication of two of her books in 2023 – respectively, Fortunes of Feminism (2013) and Redistribution or Recognition? (2003, co-authored with Axel Honneth) –, the monographic section of the present issue of “Scenari” aims to celebrate these anniversaries with selected contributions dedicated to the investigation of her work and thought. The contributions of our monographic issue let the disruptive potential of Fraser’s social, economic and political theory emerge, together with her capacity to unveil injustice and the hidden preconditions of a capitalist society. This is an approach and an impulse that mutatis mutandis has always been at the core of the philosophical and sociological tradition that, from Horkheimer and Adorno until today, we have all known as critical theory: a tradition to which also Nancy Fraser’s work coherently belongs and which Fraser has meritoriously enriched and further developed throughout her long career in original, stimulating and noteworthy ways, thus deserving to be celebrated as one of the philosophical masters of our time

Estudios sobre la infección por Thelazia callipaeda en el perro y el gato y su vector Phortica variegata en España

    Get PDF

Split Bregman iteration for multi-period mean variance portfolio optimization

This paper investigates the problem of defining an optimal long-term investment strategy, where the investor can exit the investment before maturity without severe loss. Our setting is a multi-period one, where the aim is to make a plan for allocating all of wealth among the n assets within a time horizon of m periods. In addition, the investor can rebalance the portfolio at the beginning of each period. We develop a model in Markowitz context, based on a fused lasso approach. According to it, both wealth and its variation across periods are penalized using the l1 norm, so to produce sparse portfolios, with limited number of transactions. The model leads to a non-smooth constrained optimization problem, where the inequality constraints are aimed to guarantee at least a minimum level of expected wealth at each date. We solve it by using split Bregman method, that has proved to be efficient in the solution of this type of problems. Due to the additive structure of the objective function, the alternating split Bregman at each iteration yields to easier subproblems to be solved, which either admit closed form solutions or can be solved very quickly. Numerical results on data sets generated using real-world price values show the effectiveness of the proposed model

Energy retrorofit of residential buildings with a novel super-insulating aerogel-based plaster

The interest on superinsulation materials is growing, as particularly suitable in energy retrofit interventions due to the possibility to achieve relevant improvements even when used in low thickness. In this field, a specific EU funded H2020 project, named Wall-ACE, was carried out in the last three years, connecting products manufacturers, researchers and buildings owners, with the common goal of developing and testing a set of new aerogel based insulating products to be used in new and existing buildings. The study here presented reports the results of the research activity developed by the Authors on a novel aerogel based internal plaster. Firstly a set of analysis at material level was carried out to identify the most eff ective mixture able to achieve the target value of thermal conductivity <0.03 W/mK. Then the application on a demonstration building allowed evaluating the actual thermal resistance achievable under real operating conditions. Finally, simulations at building scale were performed to determine the energy-saving potential of this retrofit tecnique
