Scaling of Pseudo-Critical Couplings in Two-Flavour QCD

    Get PDF
We study the scaling behaviour of the pseudo-critical couplings for the chiral phase transition in two-flavour QCD. We show that all existing results from lattice simulations on lattices with temporal extent Nτ=4N_\tau = 4, 6 and 8 can be mapped onto a universal scaling curve. The relevant combination of critical exponents, βδ\beta\delta, is consistent with the scaling behaviour expected for a second order phase transition with O(4)O(4) exponents. At present, scaling according to the O(2)O(2) symmetry group can, however, not be ruled out.Comment: 8 pages, NSF-ITP 93-12

Sex and Race Differences in Electrocardiogram Use (The National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey)

    Get PDF
There are sex and race differences in many aspects of health care delivery. For example, blacks and women are less likely to receive aspirin and thrombolytic drugs. Blacks and women presenting with chest pain are less likely to be referred for cardiac catheterization. Blacks and women diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) are also less likely to undergo cardiac catheterization. The gender differences in diagnostic evaluation after AMI appear more pronounced among younger women. The American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association joint electrocardiography guidelines state that all patients presenting to the emergency department (ED) with chest pain should undergo electrocardiography (ECG) to rule out acute ischemia or infarction, regardless of sex or age. It is possible that sex and race differences exist in the administration of this important screening tool among patients with chest pain, possibly reflecting a lower suspicion of coronary heart disease in women (especially young women) and blacks. These management differences may result in failure to diagnose coronary heart disease and may explain why these subgroups are referred less often for cardiac catheterization. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine whether this basic guideline is being implemented uniformly in a national sample of patients presenting to the ED with chest pain. Specifically, we hypothesized that young women and blacks presenting with chest pain would be significantly less likely to undergo ECG relative to their white male counterparts

Coupling Constants for Scalar Glueball Decay

We evaluate the partial decay widths of the lightest scalar glueball to pairs of pseudoscalar quark-antiquark states. The calculation is done in the valence (quenched) approximation on a 16^3 \time 24 lattice at β=5.7\beta = 5.7. These predictions and values obtained earlier for the infinite volume continuum limit of the scalar glueball's mass are in good agreement with the observed properties of fJ(1710)f_J(1710) and inconsistent with all other observed meson resonances.Comment: 8 pages of Latex, 12 PostScript figures, 2 macros included, plenary talk given by D. Meson Decay Constants from the Valence Approximation to Lattice QCD

We evaluate fπ/mρf_{\pi}/ m_{\rho}, fK/mρf_K/ m_{\rho}, 1/fρ1/f_{\rho}, and mϕ/(fϕmρ) m_{\phi}/(f_{\phi} m_{\rho}), extrapolated to physical quark mass, zero lattice spacing and infinite volume, for lattice QCD with Wilson quarks in the valence (quenched) approximation. The predicted ratios differ from experiment by amounts ranging from 12\% to 17\% equivalent to between 0.9 and 2.8 times the corresponding statistical uncertainties.Comment: uufiles encoded copy of 40 page Latex article, including 14 figures in Postscript. Hábitat y vivienda adecuados en Argentina. Entre los derechos reconocidos y la vulneración existente

This article is the result of an extensive research work that explores the current legislation about the right to an adequate housing and habitat. The increase in land development and the growth of the housing deficit have an strong impact on the daily life and the quality of life of the population. For this reason, housing can not be understood as an empty signifier. It must be based on the needs and rights of people to live decently, and must be closely related to its own habitat. Various international, national, provincial legislation, and jurisprudence were found, which recognize habitat and housing as a fundamental human right for the dignity and potential development of each person. This legislation is supported by the resolutions adopted at the United Nations Habitat Conferences. This paper presents some of the consequences that not guaranteeing this right repeatedly reinforced by the legal order has for individuals, families, communities, and society as a whole. Finally, this article proposes some considerations that should be taken into account regarding public policies on habitat and housing.

The scalar and tensor glueballs in the valence approximation

We evaluate the infinite volume, continuum limit of 0++0^{++} and 2++2^{++} glueball masses in the valence approximation. We find m0++=1740±71m_{0^{++}} = 1740 \pm 71 ~MeV and m2++=2359±128m_{2^{++}} = 2359 \pm 128 ~MeV, consistent with the interpretation of f0(1710)f_0 ( 1710 ) as the lightest scalar glueball.Comment: (talk presented by A.
