Nuclear structure calculations with a separable approximation for Skyrme interactions

    Get PDF
A finite rank separable approximation for the quasiparticle RPA calculations with Skyrme interactions that was proposed in our previous work is extended to take into account the coupling between one- and two-phonon terms in the wave functions of excited states. It is shown that characteristics calculated within the suggested approach are in a good agreement with available experimental data.Comment: 6 pages, proceedings of the International Symposium on Physics of Unstable Nuclei (ISPUN02), Halong Bay, Vietnam, November 20-25, 200

Quenching of 1+1^+ excitations in the double giant resonance

    Get PDF
The electromagnetic excitation of the two-phonon isovector giant dipole resonance in relativistic projectiles incident on heavy targets can be proceed via several intermediate 11^- one-phonon giant resonance states. In two step electric dipole transitions the population of 0+0^+, 1+1^+, and 2+2^+ two-phonon states are possible. We calculate the amplitude distribution of 11^- excitations with an RPA formalism, and use it to calculate the electromagnetic excitation of two-phonon states in second order perturbation theory and coupled-channels. We show that a conspiracy between angular momentum coupling and the strength of the electromagnetic fields suppresses contributions of 1+1^+ states to the total cross sections.Comment: 10 pages, 2 Postscript figures available upon reques

Proton decay of high-lying states in odd nuclei

    Get PDF
In the framework of the quasiparticle-phonon model, we study the non-statistical proton decay of excited states in odd nuclei towards low-lying collective states. Partial cross sections and branching ratios for the proton decay of the high angular momentum states in 41^{41}Sc, 59^{59}Cu and 91^{91}Nb %{\it excited by means of the (7^{7}Li,6^{6}He) reaction} are evaluated. The calculated branching ratios predict strong direct proton decays to the low-lying vibrational states in 41^{41}Sc and 91^{91}Nb. A general agreement with existing experimental data is found.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figures, Latex, accepted for publication in Nucl. Phys.

Properties of SiO₂-GaAs and Au-Ti-SiO₂-GaAs structures used in production of transmission lines

    No full text
We investigated electrophysical properties of the SiO₂-GaAs and Au-Ti-SiO₂-GaAs structures that are used in technological process when manufacturing transmission lines for microwave integrated circuits. The SiO₂-GaAs structures were formed using different techniques, namely, (i) monosilane oxidation in oxygen, (ii) high-temperature tetraethoxysilane decomposition, (iii) high-frequency cathode sputtering of quartz in argon plasma, and (iv) electron-beam evaporation of quartz in a vacuum. The SiO₂ films obtained using monosilane oxidation or electron-beam evaporation of quartz demonstrated better properties. For the Au-Ti-SiO₂-GaAs structures a layer structure transformation was shown to occur, with formation of TiOx-SiO₂ junction and gold atoms penetration over the whole adhesion layer thickness. The microwave oscillator modules made using the Au-Ti-SiO₂-GaAs (Si) structures demonstrated output power of 10-60 mW in the 8 mm wavelength range

Fictive Impurity Models: an Alternative Formulation of the Cluster Dynamical Mean Field Method

"Cluster" extensions of the dynamical mean field method to include longer range correlations are discussed. It is argued that the clusters arising in these methods are naturally interpreted not as actual subunits of a physical lattice but as algorithms for computing coefficients in an orthogonal function expansion of the momentum dependence of the electronic self-energy. The difficulties with causality which have been found to plague cluster dynamical mean field methods are shown to be related to the "ringing" phenomenon familiar from Fourier analysis. The analogy is used to motivate proposals for simple filtering methods to circumvent them. The formalism is tested by comparison to low order perturbative calculations and self consistent solutions

Development of a Momentum Determined Electron Beam in the 1 -45 GeV Range

A beam line for electrons with energies in the range of 1 to 45 GeV, low contamination of hadrons and muons and high intensity up to 10^6 per accelerator spill at 27 GeV was setup at U70 accelerator in Protvino, Russia. A beam tagging system based on drift chambers with 160 micron resolution was able to measure relative electron beam momentum precisely. The resolution sigma_p p was 0.13% at 45 GeV where multiple scattering is negligible. This test beam setup provided the possibility to study properties of lead tungstate crystals (PbWO_4) for the BTeV experiment at Fermilab.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures; work done by the BTeV Electromagnetic Calorimeter grou

Performance of a fine-sampling electromagnetic calorimeter prototype in the energy range from 1 to 19 GeV

The fine-sampling electromagnetic calorimeter prototype has been experimentally tested using the 1-19 GeV/c tagged beams of negatively charged particles at the U70 accelerator at IHEP, Protvino. The energy resolution measured by electrons is Delta{E}/E=2.8%/\sqrt{E} + 1.3%. The position resolution for electrons is Delta{x}=3.1 + 15.4/sqrt{E} mm in the center of the cell. The lateral non-uniformity of the prototype energy response to electrons and MIPs has turned out to be negligible. Obtained experimental results are in a good agreement with Monte-Carlo simulations.Comment: Article is prepared for pdflatex using the class elsart. 13 pages, 9 figures in 11 PDF file
