A deductive study of the CCLASSIC description logic
Abstract 1 Introduction This paper presents C-CLASSIC~e, a Description Logic (DL) which is expressive enough be practically useful and which can handle default knowledge. C-CLASSIC6~ has been given an intensional semantics (CL6e) in which concepts are denoted by a normal form of the set of their properties (rather than the set of their instances as is the case in model-theoric semantics). Therefore, the subsumption algorithm is based on computations and comparisons of elements of CL~, thus giving a good adequacy between the polynomial-time subsumption algorithm and the semantics and allowing the soundness and completeness of the algorithm to be established
Abstract Concept Lattices
International audienceWe present a view of abstraction based on a structure preserving reduction of the Galois connection between a language of terms and the powerset of a set of instances O. Such a relation is materialized as an extension-intension lattice, namely a concept lattice when L is the powerset of a set P of attributes. We define and characterize an abstraction A as some part of either the language or the powerset of O, defined in such a way that the extension-intension latticial structure is preserved. Such a structure is denoted for short as an abstract lattice. We discuss the extensional abstract lattices obtained by so reducing the powerset of O, together together with the corresponding abstract implications, and discuss alpha lattices as particular abstract lattices. Finally we give formal framework allowing to define a generalized abstract lattice whose language is made of terms mixing abstract and non abstract conjunctions of properties
Incremental construction of Alpha lattices and association rules
Abstract. In this paper we discuss Alpha Galois lattices (Alpha lattices for short) and the corresponding association rules. An alpha lattice is coarser than the related concept lattice and so contains fewer nodes, so fewer closed patterns, and a smaller basis of association rules. Coarseness depends on a a priori classification, i.e. a cover C of the powerset of the instance set I, and on a granularity parameter α. In this paper, we define and experiment a Merge operator that when applied to two Alpha lattices G(C1, α) and G(C2, α) generates the Alpha lattice G(C1∪C2, α), so leading to a class-incremental construction of Alpha lattices. We then briefly discuss the implementation of the incremental process and describe the min-max bases of association rules extracted from Alpha lattices.
Masculinities in Conflict: Representations of the Other in Narrative during the Spanish Civil War
In this article, I analyze the representation of the Other in three texts that were published during the Spanish Civil War: El infierno azul (1938?), by Republican Isidro R. Mendieta, and two closely related works by Falangist Jacinto Miquelarena: Cómo fui ejecutado en Madrid (1937) and El otro mundo: La vida en las embajadas de Madrid (1938). Although these texts adhere to different political ideologies and are stylistically very divergent, they are similar in their constant criticisms of the enemy. Furthermore, both Republicans and rebels tend to depict the enemy as possessing an inadequate masculinity. He is described, on one hand, as a beast or an animal, unable to control his instincts, and, on the other hand, as an unmanly and effeminate coward. Thus, for the construction of the nation, the Other presents an inappropriate masculinity, which is either excessive and uncontainable, or insufficient. Therefore, national ideologies seem to propose a normative masculinity that is located in an ambiguous middle ground: a masculinity that is able to control animal instincts yet capable of heroic acts
