    Simulation of the Melting Process for Complex Nickel-containing Ferroalloys in Steel

    In this study, the melting process simulation for the complex nickel-, silicon-containing ferroalloys in a steel melt was performed. For the study, complex ferroalloys samples (∼ 10% Ni, 5–56% Si) were selected, by composition corresponding to the alloys, which can be smelted from poor Russian oxidized nickel ores.     Parental alexithymia as a risk factor for teens alcohol use

    The purpose of the randomized, cross-sectional and correlational study was to investigate the presence, strength and nature of the relationship of parental alexithymia with alcohol use by their children. The study used the sociological and psycho-diagnostic methods. The results of correlation studies have shown strong and highly significant positive relationships of teens alcohol use both with parental alexithymia and with the alexithymic construct factorial components.     Mathematical modelling of the process of melting alloys of the Si-Cr-Ni-Fe system in the iron-carbon melt

    The process of melting of the Si-Cr-Ni-Fe ferroalloys in the iron-carbon melt under static conditions was studied using the method of mathematical modelling. It was found that the melting process takes place in three stages. The effect of silicon concentration and the initial size of a piece of alloy on the duration of each stage of alloy melting is revealed. It was shown that an increase in the silicon content from 6 to 40 % in the complex ferroalloy of the 50 mm fraction containing ∼ 27 % Cr and ∼ 12 % Ni leads to a decrease in the total melting time of the alloys from 67 to 30 seconds at the iron-carbon melt temperature of 1600 °C. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd

    Thermodynamic modeling of zinc recovery from ferrous metallurgy sludge

    Ferrous metallurgy enterprises continuously fill dumps with steelmaking and blast furnace sludge with high zinc content. Sludge occupying significant territories of enterprises is not involved in production and harms the environment. Since zinc leads to the formation of deposits in the blast furnace, manufacturers cannot involve this sludge in sinter processing. In addition, working with sludge can lead to problems such as decrease in iron content in the sinter, decrease in productivity of sintering machines, and increase in fluctuations in the sinter chemical composition. At the same time, zinc-containing sludge can become a valuable secondary product. Zinc remains a scarce metal, which encourages the development of technologies for processing zinc-containing materials. Extraction of zinc from sludge is difficult because it is not in oxide, but in sulfate or sulfide forms. In this paper, the possibilities of zinc extraction from sludge using the FactSage software package are evaluated. The authors present results of thermodynamic calculations of the possibility of zinc extraction from four types of sludge from two Russian ferrous metallurgical plants - EVRAZ NTMK and MECHEL. The data of chemical and phase analyses of this sludge are considered, as well as simulated graphs of zinc extraction dependencies from them. The graphs were built on basis of the received data from FactSage package. Addition of the reducing agent to the sludge varied, as well as temperature of the process. In addition, the possibility of abandoning carbon as a reducing agent was evaluated. To save the reducing agent, an optimal mixture of the company's sludge was selected, in which coke consumption can be minimized. Β© 2022 National University of Science and Technology MISIS.     In this article, we describe the procedure of comprehensive endoscopic diagnostics and treatment of a patient with synchronous rectal neuroendocrine tumors. The patient underwent screening colonoscopy at the age of 44; a year before, he had an immunochromatographic fecal occult blood test, which was negative. At the first stage, we performed narrow band imaging with optical magnification, chromoscopy using indigo carmine dye, and endosonography with a 12 MHz transducer. Then the patient underwent radical endoscopic mucosal resection with submucosal dissection. Immunohistochemical examination of surgical specimens demonstrated that both tumors were well differentiated (G1 ).     Stable, synthetic analogs of diadenosine tetraphosphate inhibit rat and human P2X3 receptors and inflammatory pain

We address the possibility that stable, synthetic analogs of diadenosine tetraphosphate (Ap4A) might induce antinociceptive effects by inhibiting P2X3Rs in peripheral sensory neurons. Results: The effects of two stable, synthetic Ap4A analogs (AppNHppA and AppCH2ppA) are studied firstly inΒ vitro on HEK293 cells expressing recombinant rat P2XRs (P2X2Rs, P2X3Rs, P2X4Rs, and P2X7Rs) and then using native rat brain cells (cultured trigeminal, nodose, or dorsal root ganglion neurons). Thereafter, the action of these stable, synthetic Ap4A analogs on inflammatory pain and thermal hyperalgesia is studied through the measurement of antinociceptive effects in formalin and Hargreaves plantar tests in rats inΒ vivo. InΒ vitro inhibition of rat P2X3Rs (not P2X2Rs, P2X4Rs nor P2X7Rs) is shown to take place mediated by high-affinity desensitization (at low concentrations; IC50 values 100–250 nM) giving way to only weak partial agonism at much higher concentrations (EC50 values β‰₯ 10 Β΅M). Similar inhibitory activity is observed with human recombinant P2X3Rs. The inhibitory effects of AppNHppA on nodose, dorsal root, and trigeminal neuron whole cell currents suggest that stable, synthetic Ap4A analogs inhibit homomeric P2X3Rs in preference to heteromeric P2X2/3Rs. Both Ap4A analogs mediate clear inhibition of pain responses in both inΒ vivo inflammation models. Conclusions: Stable, synthetic Ap4A analogs (AppNHppA and AppCH2ppA) being weak partial agonist provoke potent high-affinity desensitization-mediated inhibition of homomeric P2X3Rs at low concentrations. Therefore, both analogs demonstrate clear potential as potent analgesic agents for use in the management of chronic pain associated with heightened P2X3R activation
