    Analysis and design of algorithm-based fault-tolerant systems

    An important consideration in the design of high performance multiprocessor systems is to ensure the correctness of the results computed in the presence of transient and intermittent failures. Concurrent error detection and correction have been applied to such systems in order to achieve reliability. Algorithm Based Fault Tolerance (ABFT) was suggested as a cost-effective concurrent error detection scheme. The research was motivated by the complexity involved in the analysis and design of ABFT systems. To that end, a matrix-based model was developed and, based on that, algorithms for both the design and analysis of ABFT systems are formulated. These algorithms are less complex than the existing ones. In order to reduce the complexity further, a hierarchical approach is developed for the analysis of large systems

    Does advanced maternal age influence obstetric outcome: a study in a tertiary care centre

    Background: Advanced maternal age defined as age 35 years and older at estimated date of delivery has become increasingly common in last two to three decades. The International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics in 1958 recommended that all women going through their first pregnancy over the age of 35 years should be considered high risk for pregnancy and included in this category 1.Methods: A one-year prospective observational study conducted in a tertiary care hospital after institutional ethical clearance. All 165 women above 35yrs who delivered during this period were taken as Cohort 1. Same number of women aged between 20 and 34 years were randomly selected as comparison group (Cohort 2). Both the groups were compared in terms of preexisting medical disorders, obstetrical morbidities, antenatal complications, intrapartum complications.Results: Older and younger women had similar antenatal booking, occupational and socioeconomic status. The main reason for pregnancy at advanced age group was late marriage. The risk of chronic hypertension, gestational diabetes mellitus, pre-existing medical disorders were higher in advanced maternal age.Conclusions: Increasing maternal age is associated with elevated risks for pregnancy complications. They are at high risk for gestational diabetes, cesarean section and to have low birth weight babies. Since these women are at higher risk of complications, they should be advised to adhere to frequent antenatal visits and close supervision

The analysis helped identifying the major Impediments to success of extension efforts. The analysis provided a tasks for evolving future extension strategies focussed on marine fisheries development. It provides suggestions in term of personnel requirement, effective extension methods, thrust areas among different subject matter- fields, co-ordination among organisations concerned with marine fisheries and extension research support.     The occurrence of BennettтАЩs stingray, Hemitrygon bennettii (M├╝ller et Henle, 1841), is confirmed from Indian waters, based on a single male specimen (370 mm DW) collected from Visakhapatnam, western Bay of Bengal on 28 January 2017. Existing, updated reports on the distribution of the species, places it in the Indo-Pacific region with the western limit being the Strait of Malacca. With the presently confirmed occurrence from the western Bay of Bengal, the known distribution of the species extends further westwards to the Indian east coast, although it is likely to be a rare species in Indian water

    Stock assessment of the penaeid prawn Metapenaeus monoceros Fabricius along the Indian coast

    The annual average production oi Metapenaeus monoceros during 1985-89 was 10 286 tonnes, nearly 7.2% of the penaeid prawn landings in the country. Tlie west coast accounted for 71.2% and the east coast for the rest. Among the maritime states, Maharashtra ranked first in production (27.2%) followed by Kamataka (22.3%) and Andhra Pradesh (21.3 %). The estimates of von Benalanffy growth parameters, L" and K (annual) were 180 mm and 1.8 for males, and 210 mm and 1.8 for females. This prawn attained a size of 149 mm and 173 mm in males and females, respectively, at the end of 1 year. The instantaneous total mortality coefficient (Z) ranged between 4.28 and 8.05 in males, and between 4.17 and 6.33 in females. Natural mortality coefficient (M) was 1.8 in both the sexes. Yield per recruit studies indicated that for an age of 0.59 year at first capture the fishery generated a steadily increasing yield up to 10 000 tonnes for an annual effort of 1 578 000 boat trips (16 670 000 fishing hours) at which the annual fishing mortality (F) is 3.76 and the exploitation ratio (E) is 0.67. Beyond this level of exploitation the increase in yield was only marginal. Even though the average aimual yield during 1985-89 was marginally lower than the maximum sustainable yield (MSY) of 10 993 t, the catch during 1987 and 1988 exceeded MSY level. Hence the desirability of maintaining the effort at the present level to obtain sustainable yields is mentioned
