Structure and optical properties of Ge/Si superlattice grown at Si substrate by MBE at different temperatures

Abstract Multilayer structures in silicon containing submonolayers of Ge in the matrix were grown by MBE on Si substrates at different temperatures. An additional peak at 1.068 eV was observed in photoluminescence spectra (PL) from the samples grown at T=600, 650 and 700°C, whereas it was absent in specimens grown at 750°C. Electron microscopy structure investigations showed a high density of spherical, coherent Ge inclusions in samples grown at 650°C, whereas they were not generated at higher growth temperature, such as at 750°C. This fact indicates that the observed PL peak is unambiguously related to the Ge inclusions. High temperature growth at 750°C results in formation of modulated structure where the composition sinusoidally changes with periodicities between 1.2 and 0.44 nm along 113 and 112 directions, respectively. This results in a distortion of the cubic symmetry and in a relaxation of the misfit stress causing changes in the electronic properties

Abstract. Sex hormone-binding globulin or ABP/SHBG is an extracellular androgen and oestrogen carrier. In the rat, ABP/SHBG is secreted by Sertoli cells of the testis and is thought to regulate androgen bioavailability in the male reproductive tract. During ontogenesis, ABP/SHBG is expressed in many mesoderm-derived tissues, including interdigital mesenchyme of the developing autopodium. Shbg is thus a candidate for Hd, comprising autopodium (hand and foot) reduction and male sterility resulting from spermatogenesis impairment. Moreover, linkage mapping of Hd revealed that an intragenic marker for Shbg, D10Wox12, was nonrecombinant with Hd. Sequencing of the entire coding sequence of Shbg failed to identify any variation in hypodactylous animals, distinct from two control strains. However, RT-PCR analysis revealed a significantly higher level of the Shbg transcript in hypodactylous rats compared to SHR controls. Whether Shbg expression is upregulated due to a cis-acting mutation in regulatory elements of the Shbg gene or it is a secondary result of spermatogenesis failure remains to be determined. Sex hormone-binding globulin, or alternatively androgen-binding protein (ABP/SHBG) is an extracellular carrier glycoprotein that binds androgens and oestrogens (more particularly testosterone, dihydrotestosterone and oestradiol) with high affinity The expression pattern of ABP/SHBG is also species-dependent. In rodents, ABP/SHBG is produced by Sertoli cells of the testi

Elements of toxicological concern and the arsenolipids’ profile in the giant-red Mediterranean shrimp, Aristaeomorpha foliacea

The aim of this study was to determine lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic and selenium in muscle and cephalothorax of giant red Mediterranean shrimp (Aristaeomorpha foliacea). Arsenic was also determined in the lipid fraction of the shrimp to provide an estimate of the arsenolipids. The results indicated that Pb and Cd were higher in cephalothorax than in muscle (p < 0.05), while Hg was doubled in muscle. The concentrations of Cd, Pb and Hg in the edible tissue of shrimp were under the European Union maximum levels for contaminants in foodstuffs. The molar ratio of Se:Hg was calculated to 2.4:1 and 20:1 in muscle and cephalothorax, respectively, results higher than the recommended (1:1). Arsenic concentration was one order of magnitude higher than the rest of the elements. The arsenolipids comprised 0.4 and 1.9 % of the total As in muscle and cephalothorax, respectively, whereas the rest was comprised by water soluble compounds. Analysis of the lipid extracts with High Performance Liquid Chromatography coupled to Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry showed the existence of several arsenolipids, with a dominant peak eluting at 2−4 min, in both muscle and cephalothorax. The Estimated Weekly Intake per meal size in both tissues for adults was calculated. © 2020 Elsevier Inc

Abstract: This socialization activity aims to introduce and increase Junior High School teachers' understanding of about educational research. This activity was carried out at the Gita Surya Eban SMPS in Eban village, North Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. The participants in this activity were 14 teachers. The implementation of this socialization is divided into pre-activity and activity stages. The pre-activity stage was carried out through the implementation of an initial survey to find out an overview of the implementation of teacher research and the obstacles experienced. Furthermore, the activity stage is carried out through socialization and evaluation. The evaluation was carried out using a questionnaire for the responses of the participants. Based on the results of the evaluation, information was obtained that this socialization activity received positive responses from the participants. Participants hope that further training and mentoring activities can be carried out so that participants can produce research proposals and scientific papers.
