A physical approach is proposed to the description of the mechanism of motion of cilia based on the assumption of the importance of the hydrodynamic interactions within the cilium and the mechanism of synchronization of the beats in the metachronal waves is proposed. © 1992

Annealing effect on temperature stability and mechanical stress at the “CdxPb1−xS film – substrate” interface

The article establishes the upper temperature steadiness limit of СdxPb1-xS supersaturated solid solutions obtained by chemical bath deposition. СdxPb1-xS (x = 0.06; 0.122; 0.176) and (x = 0.02–0.05) films remained stable under the heating up to 405–410 and 450 K, respectively. SEM studies have shown that heating of СdxPb1-xS films (x = 0.02–0.05) to 620 K leads to the structure destruction. Internal mechanical compressive stresses at the "СdxPb1-xS film-substrate" interface was calculated in the range of 300–900 K for the first time ever, the highest values reached 2000–2750 kN/m2 for a number of the films compositions. In contrast to solid solutions, the expansion stresses up to 100 kN/m2 were derived for the CdS layer at 900 K. The obtained temperature steadiness boundaries and the mechanical stresses of СdxPb1-xS films must be taken into account in the development of photonic devices based on such materials

The article has a research, practice-oriented nature and analyzes the problems of professional development and building a career trajectory of graduates through the prism of the personnel partnership of university and the business community. The purpose of the article is to explore the personnel cooperation between university and industrial partners in the context of professional development tracks and, in the light of this, develop a cyclogram of youth career development. The article presents the results of the study of factors influencing the formation of a career trajectory from the position of students of Orenburg State University (2022). The practice of implementing the formats of personnel partnership of the university and employers of Orenburg State University, including various activities within the framework of building the trajectory of professional and career development of a future specialist, is analyzed. The authors propose recommendations for the development of a cyclogram of students’ career development, improvement of the efficiency of interaction between the university and personnel partners by creating a student association of professional development focused on enhancement of career guidance activities at university, identifying creative, scientific, and entrepreneurial potential of students, developing skills necessary to increase competitiveness in the labor market, assistance in career planning and building of university students and graduates

Thomson scattering diagnostics at the Globus M2 tokamak

The paper is devoted to the Thomson scattering (TS) diagnostics recently developed for the Globus-M2 spherical tokamak and prototyping the ITER divertor TS diagnostics. The distinctive features of the system are the use of spectrometers, acquisition system and lasers that meet the base requirements for ITER TS diagnostics. The paper describes the diagnostic system that allows precise measurements of TS signals, as well as the results of the first measurements of electron temperature and density in both central region of the plasma column and scrape-off layer. The system provides measurements of electron temperature TeT_{e} in the range of 5 eV to 5 keV and density nen_{e} in the range of 51017÷3.251020m35{\cdot}10^{17}{\div}3.25{\cdot}10^{20} m^{-3}. The use of two ITER-grade probing lasers of different wavelengths (Nd:YAG 1064.5 nm and Nd:YLF 1047.3 nm) allows reliable measurement of TeT_{e} in multi-colour mode, i.e., assuming that spectral calibration is unknown

Crystal structure and location of gp131 in the bacteriophage phiKZ virion

Pseudomonas phage phi KZ and its two close relatives phi PA3 and 201 phi 2-1 are very large bacteriophages that form a separate branch in phage classification because their genomes are very different from the rest of GenBank sequence data. The contractile tail of phi KZ is built from at least 32 different proteins, but a definitive structural function is assigned to only one of them-the tail sheath protein. Here, we report the crystal structure of the C-terminal domain of another phiKZ tail protein, gene product 131 (gp131C). We show that gp131 is located at the periphery of the baseplate and possibly associates with fibers that emanate from the baseplate. Gp131C is a seven-bladed beta-propeller that has a shape of a skewed toroid. A small but highly conserved and negatively charged patch on the surface of gp131C might be important for substrate binding or for interaction with a different tail protein. (C) 2012 Elsevier Inc. © 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. Acinetobacter baumannii 1053 is the type strain for the maintenance of specific bacteriophage AP22, which infects a fairly broad range of A. baumannii strains circulating in Russian clinics and hospitals. A capsular polysaccharide (CPS) was isolated from cells of strain 1053 and studied by sugar analysis along with 1D and 2D 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The following structure of the linear trisaccharide repeating unit was established: →4)-β-D-ManpNAcA-(1→4)-β-D-ManpNAcA-(1→3)-α-D-FucpNAc-(1→ where ManNAcA and FucNAc indicate 2-acetamido-2-deoxymannuronic acid and 2-acetamido-2,6-dideoxygalactose, respectively. A polysaccharide having the same repeating unit but a shorter chain was isolated by the phenol-water extraction of bacterial cells. Sequencing of the CPS biosynthesis gene locus showed that A. baumannii 1053 belongs to a new group designated KL91. The gene functions assigned putatively by a comparison with available databases were in agreement with the CPS structure established
