    Fuzzy simulation of forest road surface parameters

    The problem of construction of forest roads with the use of local low-strength substandard materials and industrial waste is considered. To solve the problem, the primary task is to develop a method for estimating the parameters of road surfaces taking into account the conditions of uncertainties in the data. This technique allows us to reasonably clarify some of the regulatory parameters and improve the technology of construction of forest roads, which was the goal of the work. To formalize the task, experimental studies were performed and on the basis of these results, the statement of the task of fuzzy derivation of the function for estimating the bearing capacity of the coating was performed.     Efficiency improvement of forest machinery exploitation

    The purpose of this work was to develop a model of the interaction process between the wheeled forwarder and the soil of the cutting area, which allows evaluating the influence of soil conditions, the parameters of the wheeled forwarder, as well as load and number of cycles of its application, on the indicators of resistance and adhesion of the forwarder to the traction surface. Modeling results for 3-and 4-Axle forest machines with different load levels showed that for different soil categories, types of bodies, and tire sizes. The results of the approximation analysis enabled the derive of calculation formulas for estimating the propulsive coefficient and rut depth after the first passage depending on the values of load-bearing capacity, body load coefficient, wheel width, and soil deformation module. The proposed model can be used at laying down the skidding roads and its optimization not only in economic terms but also with respect to the environment as intensive harvesting operations lead to extensive soil destructions. The practical application of the results is expressed in increased performance capacities of wood skidding operations and minimization of costs for restoring the productivity of forest area.     Assessment of natural density of distribution for fish by the catches at light stations

    Algorithm for calculation of illumination produced by shipboard lights at the sea surface and underwater is developed and implemented with MicrosoftΒ© Office Excel software. The surface illumination is calculated for the fishing vessel STR-420 with the light equipment for saury fishery. Irregularity of the lighting around the vessel is shown that depends on the lamps arrangement. Optimal scheme of the lamps arrangement is proposed for a new saury trap with the catch volume > 7000 m3. The optimal arrangement provides more regular lighting and therefore larger illuminated area for attraction of fish with positive phototaxis, as saury. Relationship between natural density of saury distribution and its catch per trap is determined for this trap

    Anchor system for installation of fishing gears on soft grounds

    Mushroom anchors are proposed for positioning of vessels and fishing gears on soft grounds, as sands and silts. Designs of the anchors of original shape are presented. Their holding force is determined for certain navigational conditions, and the forces acting on a floating object are calculated for the cases of anchoring perpendicular and parallel to the water flow. Weight of the mushroom anchors necessary for anchoring of a floating object is calculated and scheme of the anchorage is presented for the depth 250 m. The mushroom anchors using for rescue operations in the Okhotsk Sea and for shrimp pot fishery in the Japan Sea is discussed, in particular the episode of positioning the vessel of deadweight 2433 t in conditions of 3-points roughness and the current velocity 2 knots at the sea surface and 4 knots at the sea bottom with using two stern and one bow mushroom anchors. Using of the compact mushroom anchor for shrimp pot fishery allows to reduce the traps moving along the bottom during their hauling. Possibly, the mushroom anchors could be used for other gears installation, as well, as stationary nets, crab traps, bottom longlines, etc

    Predicting the Passability of Wheeled Tractors

    Assessment of the tractor's passability plays an essential role in determining its capability to move under certain conditions. However, the operation of forest machinery may lead to soil deformation and degradation of its mechanical properties. Consequently, this study aims to develop a mathematical model for the tractor's crosscountry capability assessment and its impact on the soil. A predictive model was created as part of the study, which depends on the soil and the forwarder parameters. Some high-correlation dependencies of deformation modulus and cone index, specific tractive force, internal friction angle, and shear modulus on these parameters were established. The developed model can be used to analyze changes in rut depth and soil compaction factors after multiple tractor passages. Soil moisture content and temperature can influence the deformation rate, as drier and warmer soils tend to deform much faster.     NEW ASPECTS OF THE USE OF PROTEIN TISSUE-SPECIFIC MARKERS IN THE ESTIMATION OF SEVERITY OF COMMUNITY-ACQUIRED PNEUMONIA

    The purpose of the study was to assess the associations of proteins of pulmonary surfactants A (SP-A) and D (SP-D)Β with the severity of community-acquired pneumonia. Material and methods. A survey of 188 patients diagnosed withΒ community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). The average age of the examined patients was 54.3 Β± 16.5 years (M Β± SD). InΒ 102 patients (54.3 %) severe CAP was verified. All patients underwent clinical, functional, diagnostic and laboratoryΒ studies. Results and discussion. It was determined that SP-A and SP-D content was significantly higher in patientsΒ with severe CAP compared to patients with a mild course of this disease. The direct association of severe CAP withΒ an elevated SP-AP level, directly associated with an increase in the concentration of C-reactive protein in the bloodΒ and erythrocyte sedimentation rate, have been confirmed in early studies. Using partial correlation analysis, it wasΒ established that the severe course of CAP is directly related to SP-A (r = 0.221; p = 0.003) and SP-D content (r = 0.262;Β p < 0.001) regardless of age, smoking, and body weight. Thus, direct associations of SP-A and SP-D with a severe courseΒ of CAP reflect the high pathogenetic significance of these protective factors in infectious lung damage

    The objective is to measure the level of fatty acids in erythrocyte membranes and serum of patients with colorectal cancer.Materials and methods. The study group included 100 patients with diagnosed colorectal cancer (57 men and 43 women). The control group included 24 reasonably healthy people (14 men and 10 women) matched for age and sex, without malignant cancers or manifested pathology of the internal organs.Results. Decreased levels of saturated, monounsaturated fatty acids and increased levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in erythrocyte membranes and serum (p <0.0001–0.05) were observed. The levels of omega-3 PUFAs in colorectal cancer exceeded the levels in healthy individuals both in erythrocyte membranes and in serum; for omega-6 PUFAs only a trend was observed. At the same time, the ratio of omega-6/omega-3 PUFAs in colorectal cancer was lower than in control (p <0.0001–0.002). The state of erythrocyte membranes more significantly and for more parameters characterized differences between the groups than serum.
