Surface hardening of stainless steel by runaway electronspreionized diffuse discharge in air atmosphere

    Get PDF
In this paper we present microhardness measurements of stainless steel surface treated by diffuse discharge in air atmosphere. The cleaning from carbon in comparison to the initial sample was observed at a depth exceeding 20 nm. The oxygen concentration was also increased in comparison to that in the initial sample at a depth of up to about 50 nm. Comparative analysis shows that after treatment the microhardness of stainless steel surface increased in 2 times due to interaction of near-surface layers with product of plasma chemical reactions produced in diffuse discharge

Spin orientation of a two-dimensional electron gas by a high-frequency electric field

Coupling of spin states and space motion of conduction electrons due to spin-orbit interaction opens up possibilities for manipulation of the electron spins by electrical means. It is shown here that spin orientation of a two-dimensional electron gas can be achieved by excitation of the carriers with a linearly polarized high-frequency electric field. In (001)-grown quantum well structures excitation with in-plane ac electric field induces orientation of the electron spins along the quantum well normal, with the spin sign and the magnitude depending on the field polarization.Comment: 5 pages, 1 figur

Polynomial reconstruction of electric charge distribution on the conductive plate caused by external electric field

    Get PDF
The paper proposes an original method of calculating the charge distribution on the surface of the conductive plate introduced into the external electrostatic field. The authors managed to obtain the polynomials which allow to solve the integral equation that establishes the relationship between charge distribution of the conductive plate and the potential distribution of the external field and the potential on the surface of the plate. The proposed algorithms solutions are valid in the presence of axial symmetry of the field and the plate. Examples of calculation of conductor charge distribution in the presence of external field by using a polynomial expansion have been presented. The comparisons of results calculated by the polynomial method and by known analytical solutions have been given

Finite-sample and asymptotic sign-based tests for parameters of non-linear quantile regression with Markov noise

One of the most noticeable features of sign-based statistical procedures is an opportunity to build an exact test for simple hypothesis testing of parameters in a regression model. In this article, we expanded a sing-based approach to the nonlinear case with dependent noise. The examined model is a multi-quantile regression, which makes it possible to test hypothesis not only of regression parameters, but of noise parameters as well

Negative magneto-resistance of electron gas in a quantum well with parabolic potential

We have studied the electrical conductivity of the electron gas in parallel electric and magnetic fields directed along the plane of a parabolic quantum well (across the profile of the potential). We found a general expression for the electrical conductivity applicable for any magnitudes of the magnetic field and the degree of degeneration of the electron gas. A new mechanism of generation of the negative magnetoresistance has been revealed. It has been shown that in a parabolic quantum well with a non-degenerated electron gas the negative magnetoresistance results from spin splitting of the levels of the size quantization.Comment: 15 pages, 3 figure
