Light transmission through and its complete stoppage in an ultra slow wave optical medium

Light Wave transmission -- its compression, amplification, and the optical energy storage -- in an Ultra Slow Wave Medium (USWM) is studied analytically. Our phenomenological treatment is based entirely on the continuity equation for the optical energy flux, and the well known distribution-product property of Dirac delta-function. The results so obtained provide a clear understanding of some recent experiments on light transmission and its complete stoppage in an USWM. Keywords : Ultra slow light, stopped light, slow wave medium, EIT.Comment: (single-column 5pages PDF). Simple class-room phenomenological model of stopped light. Comments most welcom

This study is to find out the effectiveness of visual motor coordination and body awareness training on balance, coordination and intensity of tremor in patients with cerebellar ataxia. Based on the selection criteria 15 subjects were selected. They were assigned into a single group, All 15 subjects were involved for pre-test assessment for balance, coordination and intensity of tremor using the Berg balance scale, Nine hole peg test and Fahn’s tremor rating scale. The 8 weeks treatment program was given for 5 days per week, 60 minutes per session. where each session consists of 5 mins of warm-up, followed by physiotherapy intervention including Proximal stability training, Balance training, Functional movement training using the principles of Visual Motor Coordination and Body Awareness Training, after the 8 weeks of the treatment program the post-test assessment for the Balance, Coordination and Intensity of Tremor was done using the outcome measures. The results were analyzed using student‘t’ test, that showed a significant improvement. Hence it can be concluded that the visual motor coordination with body awareness training is effective in patients with cerebellar ataxia

Thirukkural is the primary comprehensive guide to politics. From monarchy to populism, one can know the excellence of government through Thirukkural. In Thirukkural, sovereignty, education, incompetence, lack of knowledge, condemnation, tyranny, perspective, motivation, personality, organization, strategy, ministry, mission, identification, friendship, fire, basket friendship, genius, wisdom, Periyar’s infallibility, womanizing, snobbery and other political ideas are explained very well. All these are explained in this article in comparison with political ideas

Effect of Injected Noise on Electromagnetically Induced Transparency and Slow Light

    Get PDF
We have examined theoretically the phenomenon of Electromagnetically Induced Transparency (EIT) in a three-level system operating in the lambda-configuration in presence of an externally injected noise coupling the ground level to the intermediate (metastable) level. The changes in the depth and the width of the induced transparency and the slowing down of the probe light have been calculated as function of the probe detuning and the strength of the injected noise. The calculations are within the rotating-wave approximation (RWA). Our main results are the reduction and the broadening of the EIT with increasing strength of the injected noise, and a reduction in the slowing down of group velocity of the probe-laser beam. Thus, the injected semi-classical noise, unlike the quantum-dynamical noise associated with the spontaneous emission, is not effectively cancelled by the EIT mechanism.Comment: 6 Pages, 7 Figure

Assessment of size of adenoid-comparison of adenoidal nasopharyngeal ratio and nasal endoscopy in children with chronic adenoiditis

Background: Adenoid hypertrophy (AH) is a common cause of upper airway obstruction in paediatric patients and can have a significant influence on the health of the child. Children who have hypertrophic adenoids often exhibit nasal obstruction, snoring, sleep apnea, otitis media with effusion and craniofacial abnormalities. The main objective of this study was to know the association between size of adenoids and occurrence of otitis media with effusion (OME) and to correlate the grades of AH by lateral nasopharyngeal radiograph and nasal endoscope. Methods: This was an observational cross-sectional study of 100 children who were diagnosed as chronic adenoiditis were studied clinically with relevant investigations. The digital X-ray nasopharynx lateral view and nasal endoscopic results of all the patients were analyzed and graded. Results: Mean Adenoidal-nasopharyngeal ratio for which OME was present was 0.72 which corresponds to X-ray grade 2. It was also found that 80.6% of X-ray grade 3 adenoids had OME and 100% of cases of endoscopic grade 4 adenoids had OME in either or both ears.  36 cases with grade 3 X-rays, 69% were in endoscopic grade 3 and 19.4% cases were shown to have complete choanal obstruction (grade 4).Conclusions: There is significant association between the size of adenoids and OME. The X-ray nasopharynx provides a more convenient method and nasal endoscopy is the gold standard method for determining whether the AH is clinically significant or not

In the title compound, C22H17NO3S, the N atom of the indole ring system deviates by 0.031 (3) Å from a least-squares plane fitted through all nine non-H ring atoms. The geometry around the S atom can be described as distorted tetrahedral. As a result of the electron-withdrawing character of the phenylsulfonyl groups, the N—Csp 2 bond lengths are longer than the typical mean value for N atoms with a planar configuration

Effectiveness of Quercetin and Its Derivatives Against SARS CoV2 -In silico Approach

The COVID-19 pandemic that erupted in November 2019 is continuing, with no effective antiviral agent to date. Synthetic antiviral agents have limitations such as a narrow range of therapeutic effectiveness of the activity, toxicity, and resistant viral strains and traditional antiviral medicines at large seem not to have these limitations. Here, some of the existing phytochemicals are cherry-picked for repurposing against the enzyme or protein targets of SARS CoV2, by the principles of structure-based drug design based on molecular docking studies. The most important drug targets of SARS CoV2 namely, Mpro protease (6LU7), RdRp polymerase (7BTF), and Spike glycoprotein of SARS CoV2(6VSB) were employed for docking analysis with chosen phytochemicals and binding affinity was calculated using PRODIGY software and docking sites determined using Chimera software. For docking studies, 160 phytochemicals were selected from a large pool of phytochemicals. Based on the binding affinity values, 61 phytoconstituents were selected for further in-silico screening which resulted in 15 phytochemicals, with higher binding affinity to spike glycoprotein of SARS CoV2. Moreover, Guaijaverin, Quercetin, Quercitrin, Quinic acid, and spiraeoside binds both to the spike glycoprotein of SARS Cov2 and the host receptor of human ACE2. Hence these compounds may serve as two-pronged drug candidates for SARS CoV2. In nutshell, we present a few phytochemical candidates with higher binding affinity to the Spike protein of SARS CoV2, which needs to be further optimized by in vitro studies to minimize the cytotoxicity and increase or retain the binding affinity, towards an effective antiviral drug against COVID 19

A Multiferroic Ceramic with Perovskite Structure: La0.5Bi0.5Mn0.5Fe0.5O3.09

ABO3 perovskite multiferroic La0.5Bi0.5Mn0.5Fe0.5O3.09 where the B-site cations is responsible for the magnetic properties and the A-site cation with lone pair electron is responsible for the ferroelectric properties was synthesized at normal conditions. This oxide exhibits a ferromagnetic transition around 240 K with a well defined hysteresis loop, and a significant reversible remnant polarization below 67K similar to ferroelectric behavior. The magnetic interaction is interpreted by the ferromagnetic Fe3+-O-Mn3+ and antiferromagnetic Fe3+(Mn3+)-O-Fe3+(Mn3+) interactions competed each other, whereas the ferroelectricity is predominantly due to the polar nature introduced by the 6s2 lone pair of Bi3+ cationsComment: Submitted to Applied Physics Letters, 7 pages, 3 figure
