    The electromagnetic ram action of the plasma focus as a paradigm for the generation of cosmic rays and the gigantic jets in active galaxies

    Recent measurements of the energy spectrum of the plasma-focus-generated deuteron beam yield as spectrum of the form N(E)=(approx.) E to the -2.7 for 1MeV E 13 MeV. Other measurements show that the beta 1 electron beam which is generated simultaneously with the deuteron beam is interrupted into segments of spacing 25ps and duration approximately 4ps. A stuttering-electro-magnetic-ram (ser) model of the plasma focus in proposed which is similar to Raudorf's electronic ram which produces a similar spectrum for an electron beam for 1Mev E 10MeV. It is proposed that the cosmic ray spectrum and the giganic galactic jets are both generated by ser action near the centers of active galaxies

    Field coverage and weed mapping by UAV swarms

    The demands from precision agriculture (PA) for high-quality information at the individual plant level require to re-think the approaches exploited to date for remote sensing as performed by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). A swarm of collaborating UAVs may prove more efficient and economically viable compared to other solutions. To identify the merits and limitations of a swarm intelligence approach to remote sensing, we propose here a decentralised multi-agent system for a field coverage and weed mapping problem, which is efficient, intrinsically robust and scalable to different group sizes. The proposed solution is based on a reinforced random walk with inhibition of return, where the information available from other agents (UAVs) is exploited to bias the individual motion pattern. Experiments are performed to demonstrate the efficiency and scalability of the proposed approach under a variety of experimental conditions, accounting also for limited communication range and different routing protocols. © 2017 IEEE

    Hadron spectra from nuclear collisions

ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV; 1996: C124-C131.We describe high energy nuclear collisions by a superposition of isotropically decaying thermal sources (''fireballs'') of freeze-out temperature T = 0.15 GeV. The longitudinal fireball superposition is taken as boost-invariant, in a rapidity range determined by the average energy loss of nucleons in p - p collisions. The transverse fireball motion is assumed to be due to random walk initial state collisions; it is determined by p - A data and then extrapolated to central A - B interactions. We thus obtain parameter-free predictions for the rapidity and transverse momentum spectra of hadrons produced in high energy nucleus-nucleus collisions. The results account fully for the observed broadening of transverse momentum distributions, so that single-particle spectra require neither collective flow nor temperature increase

    Factors affecting the vaccination choices of pregnant women for their children. A systematic review of the literature

    In recent years, an increase in vaccine hesitancy has led to a decrease in vaccination coverage in several countries. We conducted a systematic review of studies that assessed knowledge of and attitudes toward pediatric vaccinations, and the vaccination choices and their determinants among pregnant women. A total of 6,277 records were retrieved, and 16 full texts were included in the narrative synthesis. The published literature on the topic shows that, overall, pregnant women believe that vaccines are important for the protection of their children and the community, but various concerns and misunderstandings persist around vaccine safety and efficacy, which reduce the trust of expectant mothers in immunization. Nevertheless, such attitudes and choices vary depending on the vaccine being considered and the corresponding determinants should therefore be studied in the context of each specific vaccination. Further research on this topic is needed, particularly in non-western countries

    PAMELA's cosmic positron from decaying LSP in SO(10) SUSY GUT

    We propose two viable scenarios explaining the recent observations on cosmic positron excess. In both scenarios, the present relic density in the Universe is assumed to be still supported by thermally produced WIMP or LSP (\chi). One of the scenarios is based on two dark matter (DM) components (\chi,X) scenario, and the other is on SO(10) SUSY GUT. In the two DM components scenario, extremely small amount of non-thermally produced meta-stable DM component [O(10^{-10}) < n_X /n_\chi] explains the cosmic positron excess. In the SO(10) model, extremely small R-parity violation for LSP decay to e^\pm is naturally achieved with a non-zero VEV of the superpartner of one right-handed neutrino (\tilde{\nu}^c) and a global symmetry.Comment: 6 pages, Talks presented in PASCOS, SUSY, and COSMO/CosPA in 201

    Charge-Reversal Instability in Mixed Bilayer Vesicles

    Bilayer vesicles form readily from mixtures of charged and neutral surfactants. When such a mixed vesicle binds an oppositely-charged object, its membrane partially demixes: the adhesion zone recruits more charged surfactants from the rest of the membrane. Given an unlimited supply of adhering objects one might expect the vesicle to remain attractive until it was completely covered. Contrary to this expectation, we show that a vesicle can instead exhibit {\it adhesion saturation,} partitioning spontaneously into an attractive zone with definite area fraction, and a repulsive zone. The latter zone rejects additional incoming objects because counterions on the interior of the vesicle migrate there, effectively reversing the membrane's charge. The effect is strongest at high surface charge densities, low ionic strength, and with thin, impermeable membranes.     Food safety as a field in supply chain management studies: a systematic literature review.

    The increasing number of food contamination events has called the attention of both practitioners and scholars to food safety problems and their consequences. Many of these events are related to the supply chain because food production is now a global process of commoditized goods, made by large corporations that purchase inputs from producers in many countries. Given the linkage between supply chain and food safety issues, we investigated how studies in the supply chain management area have examined food safety issues, exploring some of their important characteristics. To do so, we conducted a systematic literature review of 46 papers, published in 23 journals, indexed in the Web of Science database. As a result, we pointed out some main characteristics of these papers, including journal attributes, authorship data, citation network, methodological characteristics, and theoretical approaches. Results serve as a reference to scholars and allow us to discuss some potential opportunities for future research in the field of food safety in the supply chain management area.
