[Abstract] Music education research has shown interest in music therapy for integral development of the person, both in their performance and academic knowledge and in their personality. This project aims to analyze the benefits of music therapy in the comprehensive training of students with disruptive behaviors (n = 6). Tests designed by Gallego, Alonso, Cruz, and Lizama (1999) were conducted to assess emotional intelligence, which showed very low results. A series of activities were designed based on the use of the music videogame Musichao, the curricular content of which was adapted for this pilot experience. Subsequently, the emotional intelligence tests were applied again to determine the effectiveness of the teaching experience. The results indicate that, with the use of this videogame, significant improvements were obtained, both in the development of multiple intelligences and in self-motivation, self-awareness, self-control, and more specifically, in social skills, minimizing behaviors that were classified as inappropriate and/or aggressive, and becoming more skilled in their interactions with the surrounding environment

Polymer Optical Fiber Plantar Pressure Sensors: Design and Validation

    Get PDF
The proper measurement of plantar pressure during gait is critical for the clinical diagnosis of foot problems. Force platforms and wearable devices have been developed to study gait patterns during walking or running. However, these devices are often expensive, cumbersome, or have boundary constraints that limit the participant’s motions. Recent advancements in the quality of plastic optical fiber (POF) have made it possible to manufacture a low-cost bend sensor with a novel design for use in plantar pressure monitoring. An intensity-based POF bend sensor is not only lightweight, non-invasive, and easy to construct, but it also produces a signal that requires almost no processing. In this work, we have designed, fabricated, and characterized a novel intensity POF sensor to detect the force applied by the human foot and measure the gait pattern. The sensors were put through a series of dynamic and static tests to determine their measurement range, sensitivity, and linearity, and their response was compared to that of two different commercial force sensors, including piezo resistive sensors and a clinical force platform. The results suggest that this novel POF bend sensor can be used in a wide range of applications, given its low cost and non-invasive nature. Feedback walking monitoring for ulcer prevention or sports performance could be just one of those applications. This research was partially funded by Research and Innovation Programme from Community of Madrid SINFOTON2-CM (S2018/NMT-4326), and by FSE/FEDER funds, Spanish Research Agency under grant RTI2018-094669-B-C32, Spanish Ministry of Innovation and Universities under grant FJCI-2017-31677

Postpartum Depression in Fathers: A Systematic Review

    Get PDF
[EN] Background/Objectives: Postpartum depression is usually defined as a major depressive episode that occurs shortly after childbirth. This condition is most commonly found in females; however, paternal postpartum depression has begun to attract more research attention. This study aims to identify different instruments for measuring this mental health problem and to detect risk factors as well as the main sources of resilience in paternal postpartum depression. Methods: A literature review was conducted following the PRISMA method. Results: After analyzing 10 articles, it was determined that the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale is the most widely used instrument for the diagnosis of postpartum depression in the female population, and after several studies, it has already been validated for the male sex. After several studies were analyzed to highlight the main risk factors for paternal postpartum depression, it was established that the most influential factor is male gender role stress. These findings highlight the traditional role of fathers today. Most health professionals see the mother as the priority. Conclusions: Paternal depression is a major problem for mothers and fathers today, as well as for the newborn. As time goes on, there is a growing need to incorporate fathers into current and future mental health programs to be able to provide the necessary support.S

Cleaving of PMMA Microstructured Polymer Optical Fibers with 3- and 4-Ring Hexagonal Cladding Structures

The cleaving of a novel microstructured polymer optical fiber (mPOF) to obtain an acceptable connectorized fiber end-face is studied. The effect of the blade temperature and the speed of the cutting blade on the end-face is qualitatively assessed. Recently manufactured mPOFs with air-structured 3- and 4-ring hexagonal-like hole cladding structures with outer fiber diameters of around 250 μm are employed. Good quality end-faces can be obtained by cleaving mPOF fibers at room temperature for blade temperatures within the range 60–80 °C and at a low blade speed at 0.5 mm/s. The importance of the blade surface quality is also addressed, being a critical condition for obtaining satisfactory mPOF end-faces after cleaving. From our experiments, up to four fiber cuts with the same razor blade and blade surface can be carried out with acceptable and similar fiber end-face results. This work was supported by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades and Comunidad de Madrid under grants RTI2018-094669-B-C32 and P2018/NMT-4326, respectively, and FSE

However, according to Díaz (2009, p.20), "we will not assume that the use of ICT is synonymous with educational quality, much less a guarantee of learning" words that are especially relevant in the case of music teaching where its use is mainly focused on editing music scores, or editing and reproduction of audio. Under this context, this project emerged, where our main objective was that students could verify and experience the relationship between pitch (musical height) and geometric height. We also wanted to show the relationship of music with other areas, such as mathematics, physics and art, as well as the promotion of healthy lifestyles and awareness to avoid noise pollution. The project, developed by teachers and students of music subjects of Undergraduate, Master and PhD studies consisted of the design and commissioning of a sound installation in the Faculty of Education Sciences of the UDC, which would transform the main stairs of the faculty on a piano-shaped musical stairs

Power over Fiber in C-RAN with Low Power Sleep Mode Remote Nodes Using SMF

    Get PDF
Power over fiber (PoF) with sleep mode operation in centralized radio access networks (C-RAN) of low power Remote Radio Heads (RRH) helps to reduce power consumption. This proposal includes bundles of single mode optical fibers (SMF) as part of the 5G C-RAN front-haul solution for providing control on power consumption by selectively activating some parts of the RRH. We experimentally demonstrate a PoF system based on 14.43 km of SMF feed by 2.24 W giving 226 mW electrical power at the RRH for control, battery charge, load operation and communication purposes. A bidirectional control channel is integrated in the central office and the RRH for providing the capability of entering in sleep mode operation and to provide information about the status of the battery and sensing elements at RRH. The optical data uplink/downlink operates over separate optical fibers shared by various RRHs and achieves low power consumption below 33 mW with low data rates. The measured PV cells conversion efficiency is above 30%. The RRH has two sleep modes of operation with a minimum power consumption of 5.8 mW.2021. Sensores de fibra óptica y sus aplicaciones en elmedio ambiente

    Get PDF
