Featuring a number of distinguished essays by internationally known Russian cultural historians Boris Uspenskij and Victor Zhivov, this collection encompasses various ground-breaking works appearing in English for the first time. Focusing on several of the most interesting and problematic aspects of Russia’s cultural development, these essays examine the survival and reconceptualization of Russia’s past in later systems, and some of the key transformations of Russian cultural consciousness. This volume contains important examples of cultural semiotics and indispensable contributions to the history of Russian civilization

The MetNet vehicle : a lander to deploy environmental stations for local and global investigations of Mars

Investigations of global and related local phenomena on Mars such as atmospheric circulation patterns, boundary layer phenomena, water, dust and climatological cycles and investigations of the planetary interior would benefit from simultaneous, distributed in situ measurements. Practically, such an observation network would require low-mass landers, with a high packing density, so a large number of landers could be delivered to Mars with the minimum number of launchers. The Mars Network Lander (MetNet Lander; MNL), a small semi-hard lander/penetrator design with a payload mass fraction of approximately 17 %, has been developed, tested and prototyped. The MNL features an innovative Entry, Descent and Landing System (EDLS) that is based on inflatable structures. The EDLS is capable of decelerating the lander from interplanetary transfer trajectories down to a surface impact speed of 50-70 ms(-1) with a deceleration of <500 g for <20 ms. The total mass of the prototype design is approximate to 24 kg, with approximate to 4 kg of mass available for the payload. The EDLS is designed to orient the penetrator for a vertical impact. As the payload bay will be embedded in the surface materials, the bay's temperature excursions will be much less than if it were fully exposed on the Martian surface, allowing a reduction in the amount of thermal insulation and savings on mass. The MNL is well suited for delivering meteorological and atmospheric instruments to the Martian surface. The payload concept also enables the use of other environmental instruments. The small size and low mass of a MNL makes it ideally suited for piggy-backing on larger spacecraft. MNLs are designed primarily for use as surface networks but could also be used as pathfinders for high-value landed missions.Peer reviewe

Thermo-elastic-plastic Model for Numerical Simulation of Fasteners Destruction Under Gasodynamic Impulsive Pressure

    No full text
Modern rocketry widely employs a method of gasodynamic impulse destruction of bondings which may occur at high variety of temperatures. To design fasteners correctly it is necessary to have the ability to calculate fastener’s destruction time at a given pressure. Numerical research is an expedient approach to this problem. A mathematical model of a high-speed deformation and failure in fastening elements of special rocket structures due to gasodynamic wave-impact impulse loading is developed. A technique for numerical analysis of the deformation of fasteners and failure duration is proposed. To perform such analysis a set of factors such as: static stress-strain state due to assembling; thermo-elastic deformation of fasteners due to environment temperature; high-speed dynamical elastic-plastic failure of fastening elements are taken into consideration. The failure model due to the plastic flow considers dynamical material properties. As a criterion of failure maximum plastic deformation is chosen. The technique is implemented for several types of fasteners. Numerical simulation using finite elements method is conducted. The results of the numerical research are well-correlated with experimental data

Model of Segmentation of Rocket Fairings Due to the Action of a Cumulative Charge

    No full text
Safe separation of the rocket payload fairing is one of the most important factors that affect the success of a flight mission. In recent years, composite materials instead of aluminum alloys are widely used in rocketry. Such materials must satisfy a number of requirements that include the certainty of a local failure due to the action of a cumulative charge of the given power. To analyze this process numerical research is an advisable approach. The model of a composite rocket fairing separating due to the action of a cumulative charge has been developed. The properties of the composite material have been modeled based on the averaged characteristics obtained experimentally. The cumulative charge has been modeled by impulse loading having parameters adequate to the charge type. The time of action of the impulse, maximum pressure and width of the loading area are determined from the charge properties and geometry. The rocket fairing is considered as a composite shell composed of conical and cylindrical parts. A technique for 3D numerical analysis of the dynamic strength and structural failure has been developed. The mathematical model of the structure deformation and failure takes into account the dynamical properties of the material. The maximum plastic deformation is used as a failure criterion. The results of numerical simulation for the typical rocket payload fairing are presented

Materials and methods: Rats have received AHBT (omeprazole in a dose of 1.3 mg / kg, amoxil in a dose of 50 mg / kg and clarithromycin in a dose of 7.5 mg / kg) per os for 8 days. The core group have been receiving oral administrations of phytogel "Quertulidon" (containing imudon, inulin, quercetin and calcium citrate) for 11 days extra. On the day 12, after euthanasia, blood, serum and tissue homogenates (liver, gums, mucous membranes of stomach and cheeks) were analyzed. In blood there were determined neutrophils, lymphocytes and lymphocytic index (LI — the ratio of lymphocytes to neutrophils). In serum and tissue homogenates there were determined inflammation markers (MDA and elastase), the rate of microbial contamination (by urease), the indicator of non-specific immunity (lysozyme) and the degree of dysbiosis by Levitsky. Results: AHBT induced the 3-fold increase in LI due to the decrease in the number of neutrophils. AHBT also induced the increase in the MDA, elastase and urease levels; it did the decrease in the lysozyme activity and large raise (2.5 — 5 times) of the degree of dysbiosis. Oral application of quertulidon normalized the level of lysozyme, reduced LI, significantly reduced the MDA, elastase and urease levels; and reduced the degree of dysbiosis by 1.4 — 1.8 times. Conclusion: Quertulidon has immunostimulant, antidysbiotic and anti-inflammatory effect that allows to suggest it for the prevention of AHBT-related complications.   Keywords: Anti-helicobacter pylori therapy, immune deficiency, dysbiosis, inflammation, quertulidon.   Резюме   Антихеликобактерная терапия (омепразол, амоксил, кларитромицин) вызывает развитие неспецифического иммунодефицита, дисбиоза и воспаления.
