One of the functions of The WTO is to become an International trade dispute resolution forum for its member countries. International trade disputes may emerge when a country adopts certain trade policies that are contrary to the WTO principles and rules, or implementing trade policies that harm other countries. One such trade disputes has been involving Indonesia and New Zealand, when New Zealand considered Indonesia has hindered free trade by imposing quotas, minimum prices, import and import licensing period for horticultural products, animals and animal products from New Zealand. In May 2014 the two countries have held consultation through a meeting between the delegations of New Zealand and Indonesia as well as the Chairperson of the Dispute Settlement Body to discuss about the allegedly restrictive policy. However, the meeting did not bring any positive result. The case is an example of a conventional trade dispute in which the trade policy adopted by a country is considered to violate the principles of free trade by other countries. In this case, the author argue that Indonesia's policy to limit import of horticultural product animals and animal products from New Zealand are in accordance with the provisions of the WTO concerning measures of safeguards to protect local farmers in the country, and Indonesia as a developing country is entitled to the conditions contained in the provisions of Special And Differential Treatment (S & D)

Zembylas, while emotional intelligence, empathy, burnout, emotion, and self-efficacy have been the most frequently studied concepts. Teaching and Teacher Education and Journal of Educational Psychology are the journals with prominent pertinent influence. Education University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Ben-Gurion University of the Negev are the institutions with the most notable influence. The current situation and research trends are discussed in the article

Context, Process and Change: The Status of Prospective Teachers\u27 Perceptions of Teaching Process

    Get PDF
Teacher candidates come to teacher education programs with beliefs shaped out of traditional contexts in their earlier lives. Those beliefs influence their new learning outcomes. It is therefore important for teacher education programs to identify the degree of perceptions that entry- and exit-level candidates hold. The purpose of this study is to identify and compare entry- and exit-level candidates’ degree of perceptions about teaching process and to understand if their perceptions relate to their personal variables. This is a descriptive study. The data were gathered by 28-item Teaching Process Perception Scale developed by the researchers. Collected from 267 teacher candidates in a primary level teacher education program, the data were analyzed by using frequencies, percentages, t-test, and ANOVA. Comparing the perceptions of both groups, the results indicate a significant difference on behalf of the last year candidates, though the difference is small. The variables of gender, high school education, mother-father’s education and mother-father’s job do not significantly relate to the perceptions of the participants. The last-year female participants, however, scored significantly higher than their male counterparts. The results propose a need for practitioners to invite experiences that best challenge perceptions

Effects of Copper and pH on the Growth and Physiology of Desmodesmus sp. AARLG074.

Copper (Cu) is a heavy metal that is widely used in industry and as such wastewater from mining or industrial operations can contain high levels of Cu. Some aquatic algal species can tolerate and bioaccumulate Cu and so could play a key role in bioremediating and recovering Cu from polluted waterways. One such species is the green alga Desmodesmus sp. AARLG074. The aim of this study was to determine how Desmodesmus is able to tolerate large alterations in its external Cu and pH environment. Specifically, we set out to measure the variations in the Cu removal efficiency, growth, ultrastructure, and cellular metabolite content in the algal cells that are associated with Cu exposure and acidity. The results showed that Desmodesmus could remove up to 80% of the copper presented in Jaworski's medium after 30 min exposure. There was a decrease in the ability of Cu removal at pH 4 compared to pH 6 indicating both pH and Cu concentration affected the efficiency of Cu removal. Furthermore, Cu had an adverse effect on algal growth and caused ultrastructural changes. Metabolite fingerprinting (FT-IR and GC-MS) revealed that the polysaccharide and amino acid content were the main metabolites affected under acid and Cu exposure. Fructose, lactose and sorbose contents significantly decreased under both acidic and Cu conditions, whilst glycerol and melezitose contents significantly increased at pH 4. The pathway analysis showed that pH had the highest impact score on alanine, aspartate and glutamate metabolism whereas Cu had the highest impact on arginine and proline metabolism. Notably both Cu and pH had impact on glutathione and galactose metabolism

On the blooming of Islam in Psychoanalysis: Experiences from the clinical practice and associative reflections

“Donʼt say, I am at me, Iʼm not at me, there is an I with me, within me … “. This famous quote from 13/14th century by the Ottoman-Turkish poet and sufi mystic Yunus Emre can be understood as a manifestation of the intertwined and latent forces between Islam and Psychoanalysis, which this article is trying to illuminate. Namely, psychoanalytic concepts and approaches are present in manifold variations in the Turkish-Muslim context if only they can be traced and read accordingly. The quote by Yunus Emre cited above, which designates the experiences of Islamic transcendence and − from a psychoanalytic point of view − simultaneously describes the unconscious, is a striking example of these – to speak in Bionʼian ([1962] 2013) language – „preconceptional“ connections between Psychoanalysis and Islam. Beginning with associative reflections concerning this complex thematic field, the author illustrates her reflections with short examples from her practice. A case vignette of a Turkish-Arabic woman of Muslim faith and the tracing of a review of sequences from her psychoanalytic psychotherapy in a casuistic group offer insights into the clinical intercultural practice. Self-efficacy, affective well-being, and intent-to-leave by science and mathematics teachers:A structural equation model

    Get PDF
The current research aims to explore the impact of Science and Mathematics teachers’ self-efficacy on their intentions to leave through the mediating effects of their affective wellbeing (stress, burnout, and depression). Data were collected from 329 teachers of Science and Mathematics who were selected randomly with a clustered sampling method from 232 secondary schools in South and East Anatolia, Turkey. The structural equation model that yielded the best fit indicated that as teachers’ self-efficacy levels increase, their stress, burnout, depression, and intent-to-leave levels decrease. Teachers with high self-efficacy are less likely to develop intention-to-leave because of their positive affective well-being indicators. Results suggest that maths and science teachers who have optimistic beliefs in their capabilities can more easily cope with the stressors at work and have better affective well-being, and consequently, a lower level of intention-to-leave. The results provide educational leaders with insights as to how better to retain qualified Science and Mathematics teachers. Keywords: intent-to-leave, self-efficacy, science and mathematics teachers, wellbein

The aim of this study is to investigate second stage primary school (6th, 7th and 8th year) students’ knowledge levels about three important environmental topics, namely, the greenhouse effect, the ozone layer and acid rain. The study was carried out with 204 6th, 7th and 8th year students (11-14 year olds) in Turkey. A 25- item scale developed by Khalid (1999) was used as a data collection instrument. The instrument was adapted to the Turkish language and culture, was validated and its reliability co-efficiency was determined. The results of the study showed that 6th, 7th and 8th year students have a very low level of knowledge about the greenhouse effect, the ozone layer and acid rain. The results of this study can be used by experts of environmental education to focus on starting the teaching of environmental topics – like greenhouse effect, ozone layer and acid rain – thoroughly from the primary school to develop more environmentally sensitive citizens.peer-reviewe
