The reply to the criticisms of the minimum flux theory is discussed. These criticisms are correct in substance, as well as in detail. Counter arguments that the minimum flux corona theory is untenable, because of errors in its formulation, are presented

The Comity of Modest Manipulation, the Importance of Distinguishing Among Bad Behaviors

The papers in this special issue argue that aggression is not always bad, that some forms of aggression have some positive correlates. How can we reconcile these claims and these results with a large body of previous data showing that physical aggression is related to maladjustment? This commentary will consider four issues in relation to these four investigations. First, how exactly is aggression defined, both conceptually and operationally? Second, for whom might aggressive behavior have a bright side? How does aggression relate to adjustment differently for girls and for boys, and for children from different ethnic and socioeconomic groups? Third, do specific forms of aggressive behavior relate to truly positive correlates, and might these relations depend on the developmental period in question? Last and perhaps most importantly, what specific social processes might account for when aggressive behavior is and is not maladaptive

Journeyman International: Haiti HAC Innovation Center in Croix des Bouquets

The purpose of this project was to create and provide the necessary pre-construction documents for a multi-purpose building in Croix des Bouquets, Haiti. This project aims to give occupants a new space to work freely in as it will be equipped with the essential needs. The rooms to be included within this building are offices, meeting rooms, general spaces, a workshop and computer lab – all of which will give the occupants the ability to work in an innovative environment. The project is overseen by three organizations. These groups are Journeyman International (JI), the Haitian American Caucus (HAC), and Third Lens Ministries. With Journeyman International being the head group, it created a team of three students in total. This included an architectural engineer, architect, and construction manager working in conjunction on this project. For the CM student, they are to work with the two other designers, consulting them and giving input from a construction perspective. As for the deliverables, Journeyman International expects the construction manager to create a scope analysis, safety plan, schedule, estimate, and quantity take-offs. It’s an honor for a student to be able to participate on a project that will help hundreds of those in need

Effective Treatment Of An Apparent Lateral Ankle Sprain Using A Regional Interdependent Approach With Positional Release Therapy And Mulligan Concept

Objective: Present a pair of clinical cases demonstrating the utilization of regional interdependent (RI) evaluation and treatment in an apparent lateral ankle sprain. The utilization of both Positional Release Therapy (PRT) and Mulligan Concept (MC) on secondary school athletes with an apparent acute lateral ankle sprain are presented. Background: Lateral ankle sprains are a common injury in athletics. While the MC has been shown to be an effective manual therapy in ankle sprains, if the treatment is not pain-free it is considered not warranted. The concept of RI attempts to connect apparently unconnected dysfunctions within the body which collectively contribute to a patient’s complaint of pain or pathology. Treatment: The patients were successfully treated in one treatment session using a RI approach after failing to obtain a PILL effect while using MC during their initial evaluation. The patients experienced minimal clinically-important changes on a variety of patient related outcomes. Uniqueness: To the author’s knowledge, there are currently no published articles reporting the use of RI methods of evaluation and treatment in apparent lateral ankle sprain pathologies. Conclusion: The utilization of an RI approach as an evaluation and treatment technique in patients suspected of having acute lateral ankle sprains

A Study of the Cyperaceae of Tennessee

There is a definite field of usefulness for an up-to-date and comprehensive treatment of the species of Cyperaceae found growing without cultivation within the borders of the State of Tennessee. With this in mind, the writer set about gathering material for the studies presented herewith. A large portion of the work done in connection with this thesis was accomplished during the last two years. Field studies and collections were made in many localities in the eastern half of Tennessee. For material collected west of Nashville, reference has been made to specimens deposited in The University of Tennessee herbarium by A. Gattinger, F. Lamson-Schribner, S. M. Bain, and others

The CAG trinucleotide repeat length in the androgen receptor does not predict the early onset of prostate cancer

Objective To relate the repeat length of the androgen-receptor CAG trinucleotide to the age of onset of prostate cancer, stage and grade of disease. Patients and methods After obtaining ethical approval, 265 patients with locally confined or locally advanced/metastatic prostate cancer were identified and evaluated for age at diagnosis (less than 65 years and greater than 75 years). DNA was extracted from peripheral blood lymphocytes and 1 mug aliquots subjected to polymerase chain reaction using fluorescently labelled primers. Samples were then run on an ABI 377 gene scan analysis gel with an internal molecular weight marker. The length of the CAG repeat was determined by comparing the gene scan product size to samples where the CAG repeat length had been quantified using direct sequencing. The Kruskal-Wallis, Mann-Whitney and Wilcoxon two sample tests were used to analyse the data. Results The mean (range) length of the CAG repeat in the androgen receptor was 22.2 (10-31) in the younger and 22.5 (16-32) in the older group, and was not statistically different. There was no significant association between the CAG repeat length and the age of onset of prostate cancer (P = 0.568) or with stage (P = 0.577) and grade (P = 0.891) of prostate cancer. Conclusion These results suggest that there is no correlation between the androgen receptor CAG repeat length and the age of onset, stage and grade of prostate cancer, confirming recent doubts from other similar studies of a suggested correlation between shorter androgen receptor CAG repeat and early onset and aggressiveness of prostate cancer
